Vocal drift is a universal phenomenon- you hear other people pronounce a word or use it a certain way and you are likely to do the same instinctively. This is how accents, dialects, and languages form and change in the first place, it's not a conscious endeavor. In fact great effort has to be made to check this growth, hence the modern (from a grand perspective) proliferation of dictionaries, writers' guides, and other institutions to formalize language. Hence the Devil's Dictionary's entry for same:

Those cards on the table, though, regardless of personality, I feel and will act generally on my belief that deferring to any real or perceived "leader" or authority as town is a bad strategy and bad gameplay, just as a simple matter of decision-making, and this is just as a strategy and nonwithstanding my RL position as an anarcho-communist, which may or may not be a factor in that.

Long story short I'm up for trying to be more productive etc. but I'm not gonna play ball with the idea that anyone should be deferring to anyone else's judgments per se.
