The observation is this: When people are guilty, they tend to use more adverbs than they otherwise would, and those adverbs tend to be empty ones. "Swiftly" and "willingly" added purposeful meaning, while the adverbs in "Honestly, I was really thinking he was bad. Obviously I'm not bad, because I clearly survived a kill" are devoid of purpose. The question Dom posed is predicated on a bastardization of the observation, not the observation itself.keys56000000000 wrote:Epig can correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought his qualm was with a specific adverb, "clearly", insofar that in actual fact, hardly anything at all is anywhere near being clear in this game, especially when it comes to one's innocence. Is that right, Epig? You aren't just arbitrarily mad at adverbs?

To respond to Dom's question regardless, it's okay for anyone to use adverbs to improve rhetoric, but many times the adverbs don't serve that function.

Fair enough. Not true, but sometimes playing devil's advocate is helpful, especially since I realize I can get tunnel vision quite often.Long Con wrote:But I can also envision a scenario where you are the teammate, and that whole description you just posted was planned by you and Enrique in a rough way before Enrique's first post in the series. WIFOM by definition, but that doesn't mean it didn't happen.
I still believe you're civ for reasons I stated earlier, but I just thought I'd share another point of view.
It's also true -- in my Fraud Examination class back when I was getting my undergraduate we had a guest speaker who spoke for three hours on ways to pick out deception -- and that was one of the major tells he spoke to us about: adverbs and exclamations that add nothing.Epignosis wrote:I wouldn't call it a strategy. It's just an observation that I've found to be true. There are several others regarding linguistic behavior that help me out. It's better than going into Day 1 or 2 with nothing.
Also, I'm not asking you to lynch me now, I'm likely voting MM tomorrow, although I realize I have advocated it. I'm very conflicted on it. Perhaps you could understand why, but you're too busy thinking I'm a baddie trying to pull some crazy WIFOM on you to consider it. Can't say I blame you, I guess, but it gets annoying when you're heavily suspected every full game. There are also reasons I can't delve much into that make my willingness to be lynched this game higher than normal.keys56000000000 wrote:Dawn post
MP is literally asking us to lynch him. He's then astounded we still want to. It's not just WIFOM, it's wine stuck right in my face, and I don't like the vintage. I'm calling his bluff, if I'm still alive to do so.
I'd be REALLY interested to see that. That would be cool. It'll take tons of time though. And yeah, I agree, since every person's diction is inevitably different.keys56000000000 wrote:I'd be interested to see a study done on players and adverb usage. I would imagine that if it is indeed true, it varies from person to person.
MP: You're playing a big bluff. I'm calling it. That's that.

I'm going to be looking at MM today. I'm also going to be looking at players pushing certain lynches I don't agree with. I'm going to have to start some detective work now that Enrique is dead. I'm going to finish reading the night post first though, the bastards tried to kill me.MovingPictures07 wrote:BR, which players should we look at?
Look for mistakes in the hosts' poll. Shit, I got to vote Enrique four, five times.keys56000000000 wrote:*clicks Submit Vote harder*

Makes sense. Are you looking at MM out of your own accord or due to some of the thoughts I presented or a combination?Black Rock wrote:I'm going to be looking at MM today. A bit of both. I'm taking from what MM has said and Enrique. You have posted a lot of good thoughts this game. Anyways, between it all I don't trust MM at this point.MovingPictures07 wrote:Makes sense. I don't wish to elaborate at this time, I want to do my homework first. I'm having troubles with my internet right now. It's up and down so I'm having troubles searching around.
Also, excellent post Hosties. It looks like I have super powers, LC is going to so jealous when he gets home and I show him how I can walk through walls. So very jealous.
