I picked the people that I thought were all town, and who also think that each other are town. For players like nutella and me that he knows well specifically, I expect him to take firmer stances and either try to pocket or bury us if he's scum, and he's not really done either, which sells the "confused/lost townie" narrative to me.

I think Mac's reaction to Nutella calling his takes bad come from town more often than not since it shows he actually believes in those takes. I just reread some of Mac's ISO in Lend's Bastard Fiesta (where he was town D1 but then converted to 3p) and as town his takes were considerably further away from the consensus than as 3p.

I agree with this that I've seen mac be confident in reads as town even if its wrong or not the popular opinion and is more laid back.

Would you consider Mac laid back this game? I don't think he is but I've seen some people say this is tame for Mac.
