Funny or Die: The Micro-Mafia Game

As mafia has gotten more and more srs bsns, it has gotten less and less lulzy. Players who once prided themselves on making all the right witty comebacks and posting the most hilarious gif responses now only worry about making the right persuasive arguments or simply don't post at all to avoid dying. BOOOORING!

This game puts funny first and mafia second.

This is a game for any number of players, but in keeping with the spirit of Micro Mafia, 6 - 8 players should do. A sense of humor is absolutely required in order to play.

Civilian - civilians are trying to lynch The Smiter. Civilians can win the game even if they are lynched, as long as they have been funny enough. Civilians cannot win if they have been Smited.

Asshole - a civilian who was given the chance to Smite down the unfunny, and took it. There are no assholes to start the game, but that changes as soon as someone is killed by the Smiter. Assholes can only win the game if they are alive when The Smiter is lynched. There are other conditions an asshole must meet to win, but they're a fuckin' secret.

The Smiter - The Smiter is judge, jury, and executioner. He alone decides who is not funny enough to live. You may choose not to use this power if you don't want to be an asshole.

New roles will be randomly assigned at the end of every Day, meaning a new Smiter will arise. Asshole status cannot be assigned, it must be earned.

The game is over if the Smiter is lynched while holding the kill.

Dead players cannot win unless otherwise stated. The dead cannot vote. The dead CAN post on topic, but they must still use dead red to signify their status in the game.

God of Funny - A spectator who is not technically in the game. The GoF's true identity will be secret, and he or she will be given a sockpuppet account. Grades the participants on their sense of humor. He takes quality and quantity into account. The funnier that The God of Funny thinks you are, the more your vote is worth in the poll. If the GoF thinks you are the funniest, you cannot die that day/night. The GoF's opinion is informed by the players submitting, by PM, their funniest work to the critic for his consideration. In addition, players must nominate to the GoF who they think was the funniest player that Day; you cannot vote for yourself and you cannot discuss your vote in the thread. It is possible that The God of Funny may be able to post in the game. It is also possible the player with this role may join the game, but in the event that this occurs the player will lose access to the sockpuppet account and a new God of Funny will be chosen.

I'm looking forward to this potentially becoming a recurring theme in which anyone can host as long as they add some twist to the format. The God of Funny might end up becoming a vital part of the format, or his role could get absorbed into the Smiter role, I'm not sure. Right now I like the idea of having an unbiased outsider's opinion. This game can be a test run for the concept.

Unless you can't tell, your main objective in this game is to be funny. Or die trying.

While it isn't likely to become an issue, some forms of funny might not be tolerated. The God of Funny has final say, and may punish players that cross the line. There will be no modkills.

It's going to be a lot of fun.

While I'm finished designing the game, I'm still working out the exact mechanics behind the God of Funny outsider role. If I can't get it working as smoothly as I want, I'll cut it out and the Smiter will take over most of the role's duties. I want the format to be simple but multifaceted.
