Good way of look at whether people read the rules or not.

This isn't a closed setup, dude. It's an open setup with most details hidden.
So how many bad robots are there?

do you mean ping in a legitimate sense or like in a pet peeve sense

reploids and mavericks seem like convenient words for defining good and bad robots in this game since the original games don't have any real provided terminology or plot (as far as I know?) and the definition at least loosely applies since reploids are defined by their free will and mavericks are defined by being robo-jerks
I meant in a pet peeve sense, with some slight legitimacy. At first I thought maybe there was some offhand mention about being reploids to the recruited robot masters, a simple mistake taking a term used only for Mega Man X series characters (Mega Man, which takes place before the X series, only refers to robot masters). The worst part about it is that none of the robot masters can technically be considered reploids, as it's a term referring to an android that is replicated as a human (Mega Man fits this description, as do Roll and Proto Man, but the term wasn't used until X came along).

The reason I mostly shrug it off in the end is because Maverick would make more sense as villain nomenclature, but again, we're looking at an X term so even that wouldn't be expected to be used.

*really trying not to get bogged down into semantics this game, as that usually causes tunnel vision and leads to garbage plays on my end, but it's something to file in the back of my mind*
from now on I will only refer to them as bad boy robots and good boy robots, to avoid any unnecessary confusion

So, what is the method of catching someone on Day 1? Ask questions and hope someone slips up?
Create a whirlwind of a thread by facilitating maximal activity. Ask questions, make comments, and hurl accusations at every opportunity. The thread needs to be a pressured and even stressful environment.

I ain’t got no time fo’ dat today so y’all get busy.
So in other words, "y'all get started and get the dirty work done and I will come back in here before the vote and make my assessment on which bandwagon I should jump on." Sounds bad to me. My first accusation is on YOU. Not only just this post. But, this post was given at12:54am. You then go on posting frequently until 3:08am. That is over 2 hours. And you have no time to ask questions, make comments, hurl accusations? There was no opportunity for that? Then you must have slept or something because you came back in the early pm posting exactly 9 hours later. At 1:48pm you talk about what you will do once you feel like actually playing the game. Again, you post frequently for 1 hour (1:48pm-2:42pm) not really saying anything. I do NOT like Jay in Mega-Man, I do not like him, Sam-I-Am.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

@Jack - I always post early on and often. I just don't often say much game related crap because I am too busy trying to keep up with the reading in the little bit of time I have to devote to mafia.

My mafia background is strictly from HCRealms, meaning I know JackofHearts. I've played only one game with other players that are from here (sprityo, sloonei, and JaggedJimmyJay). My general playstyle is that I try to be helpful but usually just get in the way. I have difficulties trusting my own instincts and am susceptible to tunnel vision. I feel I'm a better moderator than a player.

I'm always down for making new friends.

Fair enough, I suppose Light recruiting is mentioned in the quote I posted. In context though it's not really relevant to the argument I was trying to make. Do you not think it's likely that any baddies would pretend not to understand the mechanics of the game as a means of trying to avoid suspicion?

Alongside my sus of Jay, I think Quin is civ, I think Mac is civ, I think Sloon could have slipped saying "If I'm Civ" but I see no other signs pointing to baddie, and I am neutral on nutella although she is being kind-of mean overall.

Quin, don't let anything make you guess your coolness.

Nutella, saying things like "naw bish" doesn't make you cool. :P

And what is this love relationship going on between Mac and Nut?

Sloon, I doubt anything happened to Jay on Day 0. I think he was telling the truth.

Scumread. :omg:
Jack threw a scumread on me for a post I made before I had an alignment. I assume he did the same for others.

This gives me a townread on Jack.
Jack isn't the recruiter. I'll say that. I don't know about the rest of it since he may not have had an alignment at the time himself.
We were well into Day 1 when he started throwing these posts around. He had an alignment.
Sloonei, I am confused. Did Jack through out cum reads before or after alignments were given. I see a contradiction in your posts here.

You said earlier some things were pinging you. Tell us what those things are without fear. Please say exactly what is bothering you about those posts, even if it seems insignificant. Try to really drill down to a reason.
The posts that seem to indicate not understanding how the game works (the recruitment). This is my first game here, so maybe I read the rules a bit more closely as to try to avoid something not allowed or that would make me feel stupid, but I knew that whoever got the role of Wily would be picking robot masters for their side.

With the exception of a couple of roles, no one would know their alignment at the start. Anyone implying otherwise would stand out to me as not being a robot master.

Right now, my overall suspicions are with Jay, sloonei, and Long Con. Their posts stand out to me, but I'm wanting to make sure it's not just because I know of them from a past game.
Sloonei wrote: Sat Sep 22, 2018 3:29 pm @K-Ness what's your first impression of the syndicate like so far?
It's about what I thought based on Pokemon Mafia. There's a lot of talking going on, which I'm not entirely used to. I'm trying to focus on who is actively contributing to meaningful discussion and who is just muddying the waters. While the high post count feels daunting, it's nothing that I can't deal with. I may need to go back to old tactics of keeping a handy notepad open to help keep my thoughts in one place (especially since I'm not familiar with most players here, so I've noted that I've been quickly forgetting who I have feelings on).

So far, I like the new experience and hope I can use it to try to actually become skilled at mafia.

Why do you think speedchuck is a better vote than Quin?
I'm not sure that I did at the time, it was an impulsive thing but I did think his vote for Jay was an overreaction (though seeing his explanation now I may have misinterpreted it). I had a theory about Quin based on one thing but it wasn't very strong and I didn't believe it enough for a vote. I became more confident in my vote for speed in this catchup what with his weird exchange with you about recruitment. Though thinking about it there is a world in which he has a point about sprityo. :ponder:

cuz i thought you were making a crappy statement on my meta when you voted for me (i.e. jjj would NEVAR celebrate a quiet day 0)

u okay tho so i’ll probably vote for someone else whenever i feel like playing
That's the same thing I assumed, especially since I had immediately beforehand made a comment to such an effect. I assumed speed was questioning jay's meta in the same way I was but in a much stronger manner and I thought it was weird that he immediately took it to vote territory. I see now that he interpreted jay's post as a sign he may have been recruited, which I disagree with but is a more valid motivation.

Fair enough, I suppose Light recruiting is mentioned in the quote I posted. In context though it's not really relevant to the argument I was trying to make. Do you not think it's likely that any baddies would pretend not to understand the mechanics of the game as a means of trying to avoid suspicion?

Lunalee wrote: Sat Sep 22, 2018 12:19 pm Long Con's posts strike me weird. He apparently didn't read the rules or his role pm, and instead askes all game-mechanic questions in thread. Concerning the mafia recruitment aspect, he asks: It's still up for grabs?
Then posts a bunch of questions on how to approach this game: What are we dealing with here? How do we even mafia in this game?
Then asks, "have recruitment decisions been made?"
But then suddenly understands everything well enough to place a vote on speedchuck based on his game mechanic questions.

I don't view Long Con as being an ignorant player, which is why all his questions confuse me. Is he bad and trying to look like an ignorant townie? Or is he really that bad at reading the rules? I would be okay with voting Long Con today.
I'm voting for Long Con in hopes that we can generate discussion about this post. This does reflect a pattern in Long Con's posts where he starts off in apparent ignorance of the game mechanics and then works his way up. It's possible he was just getting a feel for things and now he understands what was happening. Or something else. Let's talk about it.
This is sketchy, and a stretch, on the reread. It's a sktretch.

It's more wishy-washy and noncommittal than water. Are you trying to be Switzerland here? Are you trying to catch baddies or be Involved In A Discussion? You cast a vote, which I can only assume is supposed to look like pressure, and then you proceed to post with as little pressure as possible on me.

And, I just have to focus on this sexy piece of blather: "This does reflect a pattern in Long Con's posts where he starts off in apparent ignorance of the game mechanics and then works his way up." Disappointed us when it wasn't a revelation-filled-look-at-past-games kind of pattern, but just you saying you see some pattern in the four posts Luna quoted. I can look at the horse picture behind my monitors and see, in the horse group, black-black-white-black-black-black-white, and yeah that's a possible pattern, and no it doesn't mean anything. PLUS, now it's maybe-suspicious in your world to move from ignorance to understanding as time progresses? Or are you Billy Pilgrim, displaced in time and confused about how I could have understanding at one point in time, and also have ignorance at another? We live in a linear world, buddy. Also, I was never ignorant of the answers to my questions, just to reiterate.
LC is on fire today. I didn't like that post from Sloonei either. Opportunistic blather under the guise of "generating discussion." Blech.

Because I just saw him as a player working on his understanding of the game and/or trying to get others involved.

I encouraged discussion of luna’s points about him because I wanted there to be a new avenue for the conversation to flow in. The posts she highlighted did reflect a pattern, so I didn’t want to deny the discussion of them. I don’t find the pattern suspicious at this time.

To the second: Jack gave me a scum read which was apparently based off of a post that I had made before alignments were given. At the time of Jack's post, however, we had our alignments.

Literally get accused of this on Day 1 of every game that I play. I want to steer the discussion in directions that I think might prove fruitful. It doesn't matter who I suspect or don't suspect off the bat, what matters is that discussion takes place so that there is something substantial to work off of in the present and future. The discussion is not intended to reflect solely on the player being discussed (Long Con in this case), but also all of the people who will participate in it afterwards (lunalee, nutella, potentially everybody else in the game).

Why didn't you ever suspect Long Con?
Because I just saw him as a player working on his understanding of the game and/or trying to get others involved.

I encouraged discussion of luna’s points about him because I wanted there to be a new avenue for the conversation to flow in. The posts she highlighted did reflect a pattern, so I didn’t want to deny the discussion of them. I don’t find the pattern suspicious at this time.
jesus christ can this get any worse

"I wanted to steer the discussion in a new direction, namely into a possible bandwagon on a player I actually don't suspect at all!"
This is yuck.
I get that, I totally get that. But you did it in a bad way.
No I didn't.
