Re: Assassin's Creed Mafia (D4)
I don’t have as much to say as a final statement. The argument that LC wouldn’t self-vote if he were scum is strong, but it’s the only thing his town argument is hinging on. If you remove that, it’s an open and shut case. With the town vote, there are so many possibilities for LC to be lying about his role or for scum to just have the blanket “you decide ties” ability or it was just a failed gambit that he’s trying to turn around.
I’ll remind Sloonei that the roles were randomized onto teams, and thus the “scuminess” of my role has no bearing on if I am scum or not. And yeah, I misunderstood my role and made a big show of it. That’s not optimal play as town or scum, but if I’m scum I would have had teammates to interpret my role a little differently and I would have cared more — played a little more precisely. There’s no reasonable way to believe that I’m so flamboyant with my role if I’m scum without succeeding in my task.
LC is trying to condense this into two individual oopsiedoodles with the argument that he wouldn’t do his if he were scum while I argue I wouldn’t do mine if I were not scum. But if you look at the whole scope of the game outside of these incidents, one of us is clearly working for the benefit of the town and one of us is not. I trust you’ll find that in your review.

I got some negative feedback on the “thoughts” part. I think it was Epi? (Ironic) who said that they saw no reason why scum couldn’t make that post. I did a similar thing with Leetic earlier — said something like “Leetic is putting in work” and then voted for them anyways. There was some suspicion prior to this, but this progression is still striking. Re: Assassin's Creed Mafia (D4)
I feel like the general scum team goal of “we need to talk about Tony” counts for itself. They were hoping I’d say something, they could point and say “this bad plus low participation, he’s scum”. It doesn’t make sense if I’m scum with them unless you think precisely that the lack of interaction would reflect negatively on me.Sloonei wrote: ↑Sun Apr 12, 2020 9:55 pm In all I think there was a more tangible effort among the three dead scum to get Long Con lynched than Tony at various points in the game. Each of them received some amount of criticism from all three baddies, but the pressure directed at Tony felt more token (see the exchanges with TH above, as well as Epi's "Tony has twelve posts..." comment).
Long Con, on the other hand, received some actual pressure from Epi and speedchuck (as well as Turnip Head's indifference to an LC lynch on Day 1).
But neither of you guys can really address any points about what other players have said about you. So I'll try to pull out posts of your own that I have trouble with.
It was generic prodding because it was faked, not because it’s actual knowledge. It’s really easy to hunt someone who you know is scum.

I still hold the lessons dear to my heart, because dying sucks either way, and if you want to survive the night, the baddies have to believe you can be lynched.
[VOTE: Long Con] aubergine
There is no reason you should have to explain this to Turnip Head. TH was around during that time.
LC correctly counters TH with a sort of emotionally-charged idea that’s easy to fake and then back away from, then Epi throws a similarly meaningless hit at LC. Epi’s post doesn’t state anything about TH, he’s just conducting light distancing on LC who happens to also be conducting light distancing on TH.

I ranked all the players and then divided that into groups of 4 because that was roughly how I felt — there were no “huge gaps” in how townie I thought anyone was, no runaway towncore and no obvious scum. Coulda done it all in one running list but I wouldn’t have felt differently about it. It’s not like I type something and that determines what I think about each person

Re: Assassin's Creed Mafia (D4)
You don’t feel very convinced yourself, do you? You’ve caught me as scum very cleanly and dramatically twice in the past year. But here there’s none of that. If I’m scum I played a sloppy and unoriginal game. Here your case is based on is “hmmm LC made a case on TH and the voted elsewhere seems fishy but mmm TSP didn’t talk much”. I won’t deny that LC seems authentic. But it’s just luster. As far as interactions go, I’ll point out that most of the initial discussion on me was also pushed by Epi TH and Speed — it came later, but I think I only had like ten posts day 1. They were responsible for most of it. Heck, a full third of Speed’s posts are about me.
We have time. I’ll answer LC’s question then get back to you

Re: Assassin's Creed Mafia (D4)
I’ll look back and find where I said that LC and Speed were incompatible. I can tell you that I had a strong townread on LC early and held it until late yesterday. He seemed authentic to me. He expressed the proper bursts of contained emotion and seemed truly invested. On the other side of the coin, I felt like FG wasn’t authentic. Her counterclaim of Epi seemed like a by the books scum gambit. That’s how I felt. It’s not very scientific; I can point you to some places where I said that this was how I felt and some things that made me feel that way, but I had little backing to secure it.Sloonei wrote: ↑Mon Apr 13, 2020 2:13 pmI'm gonna need you to tell me what you were actually thinking.TonyStarkPrime wrote: ↑Mon Apr 13, 2020 2:11 pmyes I was hoping no one would notice that. Speed made a big case against LC day 2. It was hedgey, but it ultimately went nowhere. He voted for his other teammate TH. Check how many times Speed mentions LC day 3.
It’s zero. Not once.
They both hit on the same topics several times at the end, where if they’re not w/w it makes sense to approach it from the same angle. But since they are, they can’t seem like they’re acting together given the fact that Speed will be flipping scum probably very soon.

I accidentally deleted everything I had and now I'm sad. It'll be shorter the second time. I have work to do.

Sorry I can't be around today. I'll try for better tomorrow.
speedchuck wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2020 5:11 pm Tony seems a pretty obvious lynch tbh. If we don't we're boned.
linki: he told me he had a cop.
Sorry I'm quite behind.
Caught one. Nutella and JJJ both make mention of it at this point -- it's pretty clear that Speed is panicking. There's no reason to do so if he's not scum -- everyone else has acted either confused or resigned. This gives me two pieces of info: 1) Speed is scum, since he assumes I'm telling the truth AND he thinks he has to do something about it, and 2) Desmond is also scum. Speed can cover under "TSP doesn't make sense" and get away with a Lynch next day if Desmond is town. In fact, he'd do all he can to get me to use the power. I suppose that opens up WIFOM here but I didn't think about that then.
The dual apology thing is important to note here -- he has an agenda but tries to cover it by being behind. For the second one, it's clear that he's picked up all of the relevant information, so it's not that he's behind in terms of what's going on but just in terms of discourse. That's distinctly scum, who usually has to make sure not to get behind in that sense whereas town does not.
speedchuck wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2020 5:14 pm I'm not counter-claiming, I'm calling Tony a liar based on his own posts.
Letting scum with a free extra kill live right now will cost the game.
Speed continues. It seems in some sense, like a real push. He has no ground to stand on but he knows he needs me dead to win. This post is why I went for speed instead of LC last night.
Long Con wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2020 5:46 pmLOL why? So far a lot of the talk is about you using a specific-character-kill. I don't really get the confusion, maybe it's because you slowplayed the claim so much. I've seen that type of role as both town and Mafia aligned before, and it's not that uncomon.
"LOL tell" should be a thing. It's a sign of being uncomfortable. For me LC is only uncomfortable here if he's Desmond or he's mafia. I've already established here that if he's Desmond, he's mafia. So this is my first sign that LC is scum. But LC to his credit doesn't come in barging like Speed does, he takes a more paced approach. In some sense, too paced. Everyone else is confused and LC's first response is "I understand perfectly" and then he qualifies that.
This goes back to Desmond/Mafia --> Mafia. This is a strangely pleading thing. I don't think anyone else bothered to ask me. First, it assumes I'm town. If I'm scum of course I use the power. That's at odds with what LC continues to push: me/speed.
There's something to be said about the option where LC is town but isn't sure if I'm scum. He would react similarly if he were Desmond, scum was FG and Speed, and Speed substantially misread my power. That's not very likely, but was enough to add to the ultimately fatal "reasons for targeting Speed over LC list last night.Long Con wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2020 5:57 pmIf Epignosis' lynch is nigh-inevitable today, then that's a great way to do some distancing.Funnygurl555 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2020 5:22 pmi mean this is good info 'cause this is just way too much for tsp / speed to be partners. unless this is another thing y'all do on this forumJaggedJimmyJay wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2020 5:18 pm speedchuck screaming in here with LIAR and voting for Not Epignosis stinks something awful
that helps me 'cause it means lc's a good lynch after epi
Two more quick posts that sealed the deal:
Long Con wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2020 6:08 pmThat is a cool role. And unusual... and I want to steal it for my next game.
Long Con wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2020 6:04 pmAgreed. We can't risk the lynch when we have a big fish already on the hook.ts account wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2020 6:03 pm I believe the world we are in is one in which finding Desmond is the only winning line Mafia have. Therefore, I suggest we continue with the Epignosis lynch, and if we lose in the night I will take responsibility. We cannot play around scum Tony if they are telling the truth here unless we lynch them, and I personally believe that is not the course of action we should take.
These posts are interesting because they both do the same thing: respond to Speedchuck. The first one less significantly, but it allowed me to go back and check and see that indeed, LC and Speed had ZERO interaction either way on day 3. LC would later put speed in his 3s list, I'm not sure if Speed made one. But why would LC as town piggyback on a TS post to respond to Speed without ever doing it himself? It makes no sense.
There's some more but in a reread of late d3 you can see it for yourself.

Re: Assassin's Creed Mafia (D4)
cause seems to me that if you're town and have the opportunity to choose between a kill power that can only target you and a claimed tracker or a claimed role blocker at a LYLO situation, you wouldn't be trying to use your power just as an inefficient role cop.

I’ve never really been able to get into Veep but “how is the court defining ‘deadline’ ... and ‘passed’?” made me giggle uncontrollably.

I’m getting to work. See y’all for the afterparty, and if this is still going at 6 I’ll be around.
LC’s played a great game. If he wins, he deserves it.
I hope he doesn’t but whatever

sorry bud, day four lynch ain’t working out for ya this time. I’d know better than to leave you alive so long as town.Sloonei wrote: ↑Mon Apr 13, 2020 4:26 pm [VOTE: TonyStarkPrime] aubergine
Several things prevent me from going with Long Con here:
-The self-vote and Turnip Head's reaction to it.
-Epi's actual aggression toward LC.
-Long Con's effort early on, particularly toward TH.
-Long Con's frustration leading up to the self-vote is evident in a number of places on review.
-None of the mafia members actually made meaningful pushes against Tony. They all mentioned him, but those mentions were flat. They resonated exactly the same as TH/Epi interactions.
-Long Con voted for Radishes Day 2 along with Epi and TH while speedchuck was on TH. I don't see a mafia team strategizing to load up three votes on one player, while the fourth member is bussing a teammate.
-Long Con's role claim is more believable than Tony's.
Good game all, sorry if I'm wrong. You've both played extremely well and this has not been an easy decision. If I am right then it's clear my purpose in life is to stop tony from winning mafia games. If I am wrong then Epi continues to bat 1.000 and we all have to put up with that for a little while longer.

I’m holding out hope for a plot twist.

Re: Assassin's Creed Mafia (OVER!)
LC had me tricked the entire game. The rest of the mafia team covered well and got some lucky switches, but LC clearly carried.
Hopefully this meta change entices Sloonei to not lynch me next time.
I will say — not as a complaint — there were some mechanical foibles that complicated this. I think that they made the gameplay more enjoyable, but perhaps not as straightforward. Obviously no setup is clear from those and it’s on me to ask questions about my role if something’s unclear.
Overall, great simple design with a unique mechanic and great play from everyone who didn’t lynch me. I continue my streak of making it to endgame as town and then losing.
I’m in a realms game right now and the claims are flying everywhere. Frankly I like it less for games like that — bigger, more complex. The game is in progress so I won’t speak on it, but in a lot of ways it creates a more mechanical structure without as much room for the kind of work I’ve come to see as standard around here.
Last thing: I seriously almost did shoot LC. I had the PM written out, let it sit over a class, and came back and changed it. Oops.

JJJ said something in spec chat about the second thing. Apparently that was the wrong time to be emotional. I should have flat quoted you the 7 times I'd explained it.Sloonei wrote: ↑Mon Apr 13, 2020 6:56 pm These were the two moments that influenced my decision the most:Long Con's explanation fits perfectly with his behavior and retroactively disarms me a bit. Tony, on the other hand, appeared to be caught in a slip.
Honestly I was upset because you obviously bought into the first one, but I didn't want to admonish you for feeling bad.
