The "tell me what to do" approach is something that I associate with bad guys more than good guys. It's deferential and passive, and is a way for a (scum) player to look like they're scum hunting without having to worry about their targets or intentions being misinterpreted: somebody else told them what to do and they simply obliged.

the isos that followed were uninspiring.
Agreed. The iso-quest is probably his worst look in terms of seeming forced. @juliets what do you think
Well, ugh. "Tell me what to do" is indeed not a post I would expect someone who has a reputation as a great mafia player would do (that is his reputation outside of here). I agree that it's deferential and passive and something that is more likely for scum to say and as you point out seems forced. I skipped right over it when I ISO'd him, it just didn't catch my eye but I can't disagree with this reasoning. I also on first read through didn't see anything objectionable about his ISO's so I'll take another look there.

I think I also need to go back and look at the case JJJ presented about him. I don't even remember it.

I'm going to do these things before I go back to Nanook.

RIP Nanook and Nutella. No civvies went, but no baddies went either, but it helped sort my thoughts a bit.

That post was badass, LC!
Oh Wow things go over my head way too often!

And I obviously abandoned my ISO on Nanook. I'm stunned that you're gone NANOOKTHEGREATANDFEARSOME , not that I question your decision but I'm sorry you're not playing anymore (except for the ghost posts which will be cool). I feel like I'm stumbling, trying to get back on my feet. Let's start with this: Master Radishes check out the post of Sloonei's where he says your "gimme someone to ISO" is scum behavior. (If you can't find it let me know and I'll post it, its very recent though right before the boom.) Can you speak to your thinking when you said that? It does not seem like something a good Radish would say.

Also to everyone, I'm sorry my post posted after LC said no more posts. I didn't see the boom and it didn't come up in linki like posts usually do when I posted. So, my apologies.

Re: Champions 2019 - Crisis on The Syndicate [Night 1]

Good morning everyone, here we go with another day.

I have to work most of the day today, hopefully I'll be back between 2:00 and 4:30. I plan to look at a few things today: first, I need to look at JJJ's case on Radish and explore what Sloonei posted about him. Also, I want to look at G-Man because I share the concern some of you have about his participation. I want to look at Michelle because I have good feels about her but I don't know why - I'd like to move her from null to leaning civ if I can. To round things out I'll look at Colin and sabie. Sabie is so tricky because as I and others have mentioned she starts slow but as scum she's hard to catch. If anyone thinks there is someone else I should look at today instead of those above please make that suggestion.

I'll be around for a bit before I have to go to work if anyone has anything to direct at me.

S~V~S who was the civ queen you are talking about from the past?

Re: Champions 2019 - Crisis on The Syndicate [Night 1]

Ok I reviewed Sloonei's post about Master Radishes' "tell me who to ISO" post and JJJ's case post. I started writing this big response but halfway through it occurred to me that I'm really not going to change anyone's mind about MR and I seem to be an outlier in terms of thinking he is town. I look at a post of his and see one thing and others look at it and see something entirely different. So the problem seems to be me.

It has started to remind me of the way I viewed Elephant in Inception. Most of my little surface team came to think he was bad and I was adamant that he was town. I couldn't have been any more sure and thought I knew his role. I ended up dying on that hill because he eventually got lynched and sure enough he was bad.

So maybe that's happening here. I look at MR's comments about Sloonei and understand where he's coming from since he doesn't know Sloonei's meta topped off by the fact Sloonei hasn't been himself because he's sick. JJJ who I respect and am reading town sees his comments about Sloonei and labels them "everywhere and nowhere". That's just one example of what is happening.

So I'll leave it at this: I still don't see MR as bad. I've looked at the points Sloonei and JJJ have made and don't see the same thing they are seeing (I do understand that saying "tell me who to ISO" looks bad but I've done that when I'm too busy and time is short). I'm moving on to spend time on others that I have queasy feelings about so I can hopefully develop some hard mafia reads.

Hi, what's going on here? I'm not gonna read 35 pages.
The most important thing to me was this:

Jack said he has read nutella right for 8 games in a row and said she was scum in this game. Many agreed with him. Some of us said she looked good. She and Master Radishes were tied in votes at 6 apiece. Jack then said he had changed his mind and it looked like votes might start sliding off nutella. Nanook had the civvie bomb role and took her out in the afternoon so that was the "lynch". She was an independent. So both of them are in "ghost mode" right now. (They can make a limited amount of on topic posts after death).

Maybe someone else can describe something else from the thread they thought was important.

ColinIsCool wrote: Fri Feb 28, 2020 9:23 pm When did Jack back off nutella? I don’t remember that
Here you go Colin. I don't know how you missed Jack's long post. I spoilered it because its really long.

First was this:
Jackofhearts2005 wrote: Thu Feb 27, 2020 9:58 am Hee ho how mad ya’ll gonna be if I decide I townread Nutella?
Then this:
Spoiler: show
Jackofhearts2005 wrote: Thu Feb 27, 2020 10:19 am Here’s kinda my read progression.

1) Nutella throws out some opportunistic takes on Sig and iirc, Nanook. That is, she pointed out a little not that scummy thing in Sig’s massive iso of purity which made it look like she was trying to get a mislynch. Then Nanook has a fair amount of early suspicion and it felt like she was like “oh yeah, me too” which felt like a wolf that just wanted to get a lynch not on her team, not a real thought.

1.5) At the same time, Nutella is kinda giving off townie tone outside those two posts. She’s waffley but to the point where she is saying things like “I am waffley” so it could be fake. She’s also posting a ton and Nutella tends to post less as a wolf.

2) I express that maybe Nutella is scum. Cause she’s hitting scum and town baseline behavior.

3) Nutella is immediately like “This is garbo.” This feels like a bad reaction for the reasons Jay pointed out. The last time I caught Nutella day 1, we thunderdomed and it felt fake but she skated and killed me night 1. So it really felt like wolfNutella gearing up for an inevitable confrontation. I’m not sure what the townie perspective is for her reaction.

4) I reread the Sig/Nanook posts and see Nutella call my suspicion of her garbo so I vote for her.

5) Nutella reacts as follows and it really reads like “I don’t even suspect Jack because would wolfJack even do this whatever I’m going to vote for him anyway.
nutella wrote: Tue Feb 25, 2020 11:57 pm
Jackofhearts2005 wrote: Tue Feb 25, 2020 11:56 pm Specifically, Nutella is showing waffles, wim and opportunism.

[VOTE: Nutella] aubergine
are you like, reading from a clipboard? seriously what is this?

what have you done with jack??

would you actually be this obvious tho??

[VOTE: jack] aubergine
And as I’m reading these posts, my scumread on Nutella is reinforced. She really does look bad from these posts in a vacuum.

6) We fight for a bit and then I leave. Then Nutella is like “Jack is probably town and wrong.”

7) ???????? Idk I haven’t read all this shit. Votes move to Radishes and come off me cause duh I’m town. And they pile onto Nutella, which implies she did something else scummy or people agree with my points.

8) Jay points out to Nutella “AHA! You shouldn’t suspect Jack for suspecting you!” and Nutella is like “No shit but what am I supposed to do?”

Then Nutella continues to hit her stride without letting herself get pulled into the thunderdome, not having mean wolf reactions, etc.

But the other thing is that almost half the players are scum and I have a bunch of townreads.

So I’m like “Either Nutella is a wolf and is handling me way better than she did last time and is mimicking her town game better or she’s a townie who had three scummy looking reads on D1 and statistically, some of my other reads are probably wrong.”

And then there’s multiball to take into account. Does wolfNutella look townier because it’s multiball and age can go after people? Does townNutella get unfairly dinged for scummy looking reads when she’s going to actually hunt regardless of alignment and so the very basis of my “Nutella does not believe these reads” line of inquiry is wrong on its face?

Idk. I kinda want to give her another day.

At least a nickel, maybe even a whole 7 cents.
I reread some of the quieter people today, and will add Colin, I already did G and Tranq. I don't see much alarming in Tranq, even though we don't seem to see eye to eye on people. @juliets probably knows Tranq best; Jules any opinion yet on Tranq?
I wish he was here more but I'm also not alarmed by his posts even though they are few. He tried to protect me in one post and in his last post he had a similar opinion to me of Radishes, so I guess of course I wouldn't be alarmed.

I am struggling to see Colin as town. I will look at him again but I'm having a hard time finding something I would label as townie behavior.

I'll just continue on. Drago is someone who ALWAYS looks bad to me. My impression is he appeared, made a judgement on Jack based on a very short synopsis of pages and pages of behavior, and then didn't even stick around and read some of the thread. Said he'd rather do homework, lol really? However, I need some more time with him to really form an opinion.

G-Man is suspicious to me mostly because he is not posting like he usually does, but his circumstances have changed since he last played. Today he appears to be Oompa Loompa'd so I guess he will reveal his thoughts slowly. I'll be waiting.

I don't know if I said "similar behavior", but what I've mislynched colin for in the past is his tendency to hang back and provide reads at his own pace. It's easy to misread that as a tentative, behind-the-action scum player, when in reality it's just been a behind-the-action civilian trying not to overstate his thoughts.

I have not looked closely at his posts in this game so I can't give you a detailed interpretation of what he looks like here. But that's my general warning against lynching Colin.
Thank you Sloonei that is helpful. I'll take another look at him and try to guard against reading him on a tendency to hang back and provide reads at his own pace.

Re: Champions 2019 - Crisis on The Syndicate [Day 2]

Ok, I know I said I was going to look at Mac and I am but I got sidetracked to Turnip Head for a few minutes. I looked up the Firefly game to see if I was remembering his scum behavior correctly and what I find is it is radically different from the way he's behaving here. He's lighthearted in that game especially in the beginning but really peppered all the way through and his posts appear more frequently. I did not look at our team chat (I'm not even sure there's a link to it) but I saw enough in the game thread. I'm posting the link here: http://www.mafiathesyndicate.com/search ... only&ch=-1

Take a look at it, read through some of his posts, it doesn't take long to read a few pages. Look at page 5 where he welcomes me on board his ship (I believe I subbed in that game) - it's an example of why I said earlier I found him charming.

I don't think I can support a full town read here based on this one game but if he is scum here his behavior has changed a lot.

Re: Champions 2019 - Crisis on The Syndicate [Day 2]

There are some things about MacDougall that I could read as scum but I really need to see more behavior. I really don't want to say any more about it until I do see more. It's odd to me that he hasn't yet come into the thread after the early lynch but it's not unheard of for Mac to miss a day. He did say early on in the thread that he's a very busy guy.

One thing I'd like to know from Mac is why there was the turn around on Jack. On one day he is saying Jack is lying and nutella should be our leader and then this:
MacDougall wrote: Wed Feb 26, 2020 12:16 am Jack is exhibiting his "I am scum" tell. I bet he keeps doing it too.
and then his very next post about the subject comes the next day when he says:
MacDougall wrote: Wed Feb 26, 2020 8:39 pm Btw Jack is always right about Nutella. It's canon. So either he's town and she's wolf or he's wolf and she's wolf, or he's wolf and she's town. But one of them is always a wolf so we should lynch Nutella.
and then he was off and running with his badgering of nutella regarding her comment in another game that Jack always reads her correctly.

Mac, can you explain your turnaround from thinking Jack was scummy with his nutella suspicion to thinking Jack had hit the nail on the head with respect to her? What happened in between that changed your mind?

I apologize if someone already asked this and I don't remember.

Alright. Thanks for your opinion. I'm honestly not sure, which is why I'm asking. When I was scum with her last game, she hardly posted. But I also have seen her as town and she seemed more aggressive or straight forward, like she had opinions. Here it seems more like she is building opinions and missing info. The thing that hits me in the feels on the town-side is her mentioning of being "misunderstood".
Dizzy, what game was it where you were scum with her? I have read through her here several times but want to look at a scum game of hers. It's true she is slow to start but she should be picking up by now I think. One thing I didn't like in her ISO was when Jay asked her about her nutella vote one of her comments was "other people voted for her too" which sounded defensive to me which I don't normally associate with town sabie. Maybe that is being too picky. Anyway, let me take a look at a scum game of hers and hopefully I'll have more to say.

juliets, I’ve been playing games with you since I signed up here, including recently. Why do you need Sloonei to tell you how I play?
Colin, don't take offense but I remember nothing about how you play. The only thing I remember is Inception where I mistakenly thought you were bad which I don't want to do again, but I don't remember why I thought you were bad. I plan to take another look there too though so I'm not just depending on Sloonei.

Re: Champions 2019 - Crisis on The Syndicate [Day 2]

Ok I just read through Colin's posts in Inception and thought "Why the fuck did I vote for him?" So I read my posts and find that I thought his posts looked towny later in the game but I didn't like his low presence and thought he had nudged us away from voting scum to try to get us to vote 3P.

Here I have been leaning scum on Colin but a big part of that is he hasn't been here much and doesn't seem to have paid attention when he was here earlier on in the game. I just read through him again - earlier I said I couldn't see posts that were towny but I also don't see posts that are scummy. I don't think that's enough right now to vote for him especially given the weight I was putting on "low presence" and my interpretation that he wasn't paying attention. I could have kicked myself when I read why I voted to lynch him in Inception.

I'll keep looking.

Re: Champions 2019 - Crisis on The Syndicate [Day 2]

Ok I just read through sprityo and almost all of it seems like fluff. He voted Jack on Day 1 making a point of saying it was just gut, but then also voted Jack on Day 2. Sprityo, are you still voting on just gut? I know you just got home and there is family to see and such so I don't want to push too hard but what's going on? You are capable of really great play as Jay pointed out but I can't say I see anything towny in your posts, and the vote for Jack on Day 2 is uninspiring or worse without a reason. Hope you are able to talk some more about this today.

Is anyone else having this same reaction or am I missing something?

I’ve got nothing specific. I feel very sure on Juliets but in the presence of lots of town reads I’ll succumb to the majority. Sabie is playing similarly to how she did in Fallout as far as I can tell, it’s a little floaty. Not a lot of fighting to grasp onto, big paragraphs and inherently defensive.
Turnip was a shrug read. Went to put it in Ehh, changed my mind.
You say you feel very sure about me so I have to assume you've seen some strong evidence. What is it?
