For players in North America (EST), you are spam-posting between 8 and 10am on Tuesday morning. People have jobs. You need to cut the caffeine or something, there is no need to spaz out on a game that is still within its 24-hour check-in, pre-start phase.
I apologize, it was meant as a joke. I didn't mean for it to come off rude
Some of these are custom emojis created over a decade ago in order to fill gaps in the visual language of emojis that we had back then. There were several types of emotional communication that the emojis we had on-hand did not cover. While many things have changed over the years, not the least of which is an exponentially greater number of emojis to choose from, I still consider some of these to be top-notch design work, exploring emotional subtleties that few emojis can match.

:feb: This is FEB, short for Fucking Evil Bastard. A custom request from LoRab, a longtime community member and good friend. I challenge you to find a more concise and communicative emoji for this purpose.

 This is Hopeful Grin, created because the usual 'smile' emojis are often so bland and lacking in personality, this emoji adds some subtlety and flavour to a smile

:meany: Most "sticking out tongue" emojis are playful and silly, like :p :goofp: . This one was created to fill the void for a more serious nonjokey tongue.

:scared: There are lots of 'frightened' emojis like , but Scaredy's slightly pale face and timid stance really convey the fear.

:srsnod: :nicenod: Find me an emoji that does a better job here. I'll wait.

:noble: Noble. I consider Noble to be the best of the custom emojis. From the inspiring light illuminating his face, to the stern and stoic expression in his eyes, Noble stands alone across the entire Internet in his inescapable and stalwart goodness.

Thunal33 wrote: Mon Feb 17, 2025 7:06 pm Hi everyone!

This game is pretty different from mafia. In mafia you want to give a lot of info and in AITP you want to give as little info as possible.

If everyone talks a lot and gives read lists it will be super easy for the assassins to deduce who the king is just by looking at who nobody wants to kill.

But if don't talk and just collectively vote off the first person to get run up with votes each day, the assassins don't have much info to work with and can't make accurate shots. There is no night phase so we have guards to spare and losing a guard isn't a big deal.
This sounds superfun. We should also each agree to only vote the player below us, all game. Each vote a tie, Russian Roulette No Info, and anyone who deviates is an Assassin.
Hi kind sir, may I ask, from 1 to 11, how town are you usually? If you were to describe your townie self currently, what would be the perfect description?
One. I am 1 usually. I don't have a townie self.
As both alignments? What do you say is the reason?
:shrug2: Maybe my name makes people distrust me

My problem with this is that after a few days, we’ve given then enough info to make a short list of people NOONE has suspected. It’s a lot easier for the assassins to make an educated guess from that position. Like anyone taking sus can be eliminated from the assassins “maybe King” list.

Having read that article, it really does make the most sense to me.
But like... we're allowed to act like we suspect the King.

Reading back over this, just want to make sure we're on the same page here.

The "problem" is that anyone taking sus can be eliminated from the assassins 'maybe King' list. The easy way to prevent it is to mix in some suspicion of the King when you're suspicionizing.

nutella and I had just been talking about how we, in the same mindset, were both criticizing without actually reading or knowing if that factor is discussed in the article. Obviously, this has the potential to make us look a little douchey, which is why I asked her.

I get the feeling, friend S~V~S, that you may have taken something a different way than intended, but the only insults or belittlement were self-deprecating, I assure you. :noble:

Not really sure how to make of Foxy's interest.

I feel like he could be scum probing for more intel to find the king.

I find Thunal's idea pretty good. Tho, I think we should be careful on how we make our "random" lynches, so they aren't so random. (I did try to backread previous AITP games, but that failed miserably as I got lazy.)

I also have ulterior motives in following their idea, because I came back from a long hiatus and I wanna do the bare minimum and chill.

My dear players, I must inform that a small edition in the rules of this game has been made. Though I prefer not to do that after games begin, I am confident this will maximise the enjoyment of the game for everyone involved.

The following sentence is no longer part of the rules:

The King will never die in a tie.
Thank you for your attention. Carry on with whatever you are doing.

So @Thunal33 yeah I figured read lists were bad (yay I still feel like I’m target painting naming town reads).

In addition, based on the rules, pushing a tie would have to be a really bad look.
S~V~S wrote: Mon Feb 17, 2025 7:24 pm Well. Two way ties would be bad, but a 16 way tie could work? Especially with no NKs?
Young miss, in my humble opinion, pushing ties isn't necessarily anti-town. The thing is, you see, we know who the King is. So pushing a tie can and will serve to confuse scum (I like to call mafia scum, I hope no one takes offense. If they do, voice it out and I'll stop). Deciding not to do ties is if anything, anti-town in my opinion. But uh well, it really depends on the situation.
Well, based on your earlier posts I’m actually not a million percent sure YOU know who the king is, tbh.

A strategy of giving the assassins zero info to go on seems sound.
I am not sure who King is. Might helping?

I don't know if it sounds sound as I am too tired to do math (I slept 1.5 hours in last 40 hours) but I sure do know that it sounds boring.

:shrug2: Maybe my name makes people distrust me
on a scale of 1 to 10, 5 being absolutely neutral and 10 being town lock, how much do you think I trust you?

So we're both laughingly criticizing her from a standpoint of ignorance. I'm cool with that if you are. :feb:
From what little I read, the article is as following:
1. Don't post anything. Just vote randomly.
2. The end.

Dai, my dear queen, do you actually feel that from me? Also, I am completely against your sheep of not doing anything. Reconsider please.

The thing is that we want the assassins out of the way early, as the more villagers we kill the higher the chances of the assassins getting the target correct. It also assumes a complete lack of creativity from us. As long as people are smart enough to not take the route of always townreading the king, then it won't be an issue. All of us know who the king is, as long as we aren't absolute morons the king is never in danger of being the final lynch regardless of if one or some of the guards are voting them at any particular moment. We benefit from resolving this as quickly as possible, and in most scenarios random lynches won't achieve that.
Did you read the link she provided?

It's a point of giving them zero info. Discussing suspicions gives too much; it will take them two, maybe three days, if we're careful, for a clever assassin to determine the one person none of us mentions as sus, if we have discussion of even just suspicions with no mentions of whom we trust whatsoever.

if you have not read the link she provided, you should. It makes 100% sense to me. Here it is again, if you missed it previously:
Yes, because obviously never posting any suspicions of the king when we all know they're never gonna be lynched anyway is the only strategy that exists. Think for a second here, it's not that complicated.

I will try not to do anything, but I find it odd how you are pushing so hard on Thunal for their idea. and linking up SVS together with them. While Thunal could at least make sense, SVS could have been a random town you got derailed. Why would partners try to be so close so easily?

I will try my best to think. x.x I just have no clue on how to approach this situation of having insider information, but also probing for more without revealing nothing.

Hi, may I get your opinion on just about everything?
I’m caught up

Hi Foxy! We haven’t met, I don’t think! You seem rip-roaring and ready to go, and it’s a tricky situation.

I read the link and the ‘optimal strategy’ proposed on that wiki. :shrug2:
My initial take is a strategy that “allows the town a distinct advantage and turns the game into little more than a lottery” sounds good for us, but if I wanted to play the lottery, I’d go throw a dollar in my garbage chute.

Further, this strategy of no info or reads is so antithetical to how I’ve ever play mafia, it might as well not be mafia.

So Resistance: Avalon is my favorite game. I’ve played probably about ~2000 games. The strat proposed here reminds me of the games where the first 3 missions immediately, triggering the assassin to kill Merlin, at, at minimum, a 33% chance to hit. If they miss Merlin, everyone shrugs and we maybe play again. If they shoot Merlin, it feels cheap, but we all shrug. Those games
aren’t distinctly fun or engaging for either party, in my experience.

So…I dunno. I want to still do stuff at a minimal capacity while also still sticking true to the philosophy of mafia and I’ve having trouble reckoning with that discrepancy
Nice! Glad that we are on the same page. Mind telling me your opinion about my two scum leans? What about my town leans? What about people I haven't mentioned. Nothing to note out of my read list?

Also, a little question, since you seem opinionated on how we shouldn't play the game, do you hold any more opinions? I am curious about how you see this setup and it's possible solutions? What way do you propose is best for us to go forward?
I don’t think I have any opinion on your scum reads at the moment. Definitely taking this game a little slower. Note that I am usually the high poster in my games…I usually can’t seem to shut up.

So this strategy of randomly voting feels like an idealistic enterprise. We either all have to do it or not. And those that don’t could very well be just shrug yeeted.

Yeah, that’s what I’m gonna call this game if it does that way. Shrug Yeets in the Palace. Doesn’t have as cool a ring as Assassins in the Palace or Razz-ma-Tazz or Fluffy Douglas (my porn name)
Say, what do you think is the more likely scenario? For three town to be eliminated without single scum or for one scum to be eliminated in first 3 eliminations?
If we’re talking purely random in a vacuum, and use Long Con’s proposition of voting for the player directly below us to create a tie every vote, it will purely be 16.7% (2/12) to find an assassin on D1, and only go up from there in each successive miss. I’m not a math guy, but odds are very low we get to endgame with assassins and the king remaining, and assassins having not used their shots before then.

That’s really cool because I’m learning Avalon right now and the logic can be really complex. I’m playing online on proavalon.com and I’m enjoying it for the most part even though I make noob mistakes sometimes.
Nice! I started with online Avalon and that actually brought me here, to forum mafia XD

Don’t worry about feeling nooby. After about 100 games I was the best player on the planet. After 1000 games, I realized that I’m not all that good, and actually might more of a noob than I thought. And that’s ok! I just love introducing people to the game and being a part of the magic
Cool! Did you play on proavalon or somewhere else?

I have 52 games, plus a few back in 2021 on another account and I kept being surprised by how little I knew. I was like “finally, I get it!” a lot of times but then I miss something else.
Switching to OT.
Mm I can’t remember, but I think it might have been avalon.fun. Started getting weird with some of the regulars as they’d metagame it such that they’d all quickly vote and make irregular moves and voting to avoid staleness that turned it more into a bizarre circlejerk. Then they invited me to their Facebook group so they could ping everyone for games at 4am my time and it started getting too personal so I got out of there.

Nowadays I’m on the Blood on the Clocktower train with groups IRL and bring Avalon in case anyone wants to play that too.

If you’ve never done Blood on the Clocktower, find a group and get in there. It’s fantastic

That’s really cool because I’m learning Avalon right now and the logic can be really complex. I’m playing online on proavalon.com and I’m enjoying it for the most part even though I make noob mistakes sometimes.
Aye miss, if we veto that strategy (most likely scenario so answer seriously) what best thing do you propose? From Wolf persepctive, I'd like to know. What do you believe is best to do as a wolf?
Probably just as close to it as you feel would still make a fun game. I don’t mind talking off topic for fun but I’ll personally give minimal info in terms of reads this game.

I’d say if you are outing reads, leave outing your reads to a small amount of scum reads and try not to state town reads or do full read lists.

I’m not going to help the wolves. :P
Miss, this is a game of deception. You are allowed to lie, buss, distance, ignore, power push. I don't think that giving minimal reads is a healthy environment for any game but if you do believe that's the best strategy, I can only respect that and if I don't like it, answer with a vote.
I’m not going to force you or anyone to play the same way I do.
Thing is, if the majority consensus is the voting randomly and not making waves, the most obvious prediction is people that choose NOT to subscribe to the philosophy will get eliminated early to make room for this eventual homogeneity
When I die, I want to go peacefully in my sleep like my grandfather;
not screaming like the people in his car

Yes, because of these posts which I find oddly performative. And, you could say, it's fluff, or whatever. x.x but that's just how I find it.

If you are town, think hard. If you are scum, think harder hahahah
I suppose we can play this like normal mafia, while hiding our king. There might be an RVS anyway. As long as we have 6+ players, mislynches aren't so bad. Prepare to die valorously.
Okay, since we are doing this random voting thing, who do you wanna vote for today?
ToT I don't think we are voting on Day 0... we will start at Day 1, I am assuming. I actually don't think all the players even posted.
