Contest Over and Winner Has Been Notified
Congratulations Winner! Thank you everyone who participated in the contest regarding my avatar. The entries were outstanding, it was hard to have only one winner. Here for your information are the answers to the questions:
About my avatar...
1. What is the name of the sculpture?
A. Apollo and Daphne
2. What are they doing, i.e., what is happening (details please)?
A. Apollo clutches Daphne’s hip pursuing her as she flees trying to escape him. Apollo desperate and longing wears a laurel crown foreshadowing Daphne’s metamorphosis into the laurel tree. Daphne is portrayed halfway through her metamorphosis into the laurel tree with her arms already transforming into its branches as she flees and calls to her Father to save her from Apollo. (you can see her turning into a tree a little better in the above image)
3. Who is the sculptor of this work?
A. Bernini
4. How large is the sculpture?
A. Life Size or 96 inches
5. What city will you find this sculpture?
A. Rome
6. Where in the city will you find it?
A. Galleria Borghese
7. What God was insulted and set off the events depicted in the sculpture (the Greek one)?
A. Eros of course! Shot Apollo with his bow of love and shot Daphne with a bow of lead to hate. Eros was insulted by Apollo.
8. What year was the sculpture finished?
A. 1625
9. What was the most famous work this sculptor did?
A. Well, I thought it was the baldacchino in St. Peters Bascillica under which the bones of Peter are said to lay, but the answer kept coming in the Ecstasy of St. Therese so I figured it was a matter of opinion and everyone got it right.
10. Why am I making you answer all these questions about this sculpture other than to play a game?
A. My favorite answers:
1. For your next game Angels and Demons by Dan Brown.

or maybe because its hilarious to see eros and apollo go for each other? Or maybe a super secret awesome twist?!?
2. One word: baroque. I don't know about you guys, but I'm a sucker for it. Muzak - Scarlatti, Handel, Telemann (omnonnomonmnom), harpsichord and recorder (omnomnomnomno); Painting - Caravaggio (drool); Architecture (attaches picture)
I accepted all of the answers I got because they were good (such a creative bunch you are) though the real answer is simple (though an Angels and Demons game sounds fun and I do love the boroque): this is my favorite sculpture and I want any of you who go to Rome to know enough to go and see it. It will stop your heart.
