Jay, re: "alien isn't sure why abyssum seems off, and he also doesn't understand why they are getting town reads. Those two things don't fit together. It's awkward. I don't know that it means anything re: abyssum though."

I think that's probably a good look for abyssum on its own.

I feel like Alien really goes out of his way to interact with abyssum so much. Like he really forces it. I'm not sure what to make of that fact in isolation.

Robot could be scum here. Gonna have to iso first to get my own read there, which ain't happening today. Work last night was brutal to the core (yay working at a restaurant during the first week of semester in a university town!), and for some dingdang reason I woke up after like four hours anyway--trying to iso would almost certainly end up in an unscheduled nap, so nope, it's off the cuff stuff for today. :p

I think DH was the one i wasn't liking alien interaction stuffs with, not TH? (Y'all call them initials so much that I'm just now getting to the point that i don't comflate them in my head when someone else is talking about them.) Will figure that out tomorrow too if i don't by random thread poking today.

In any case, don't think i've seen a proposed lynch i have any known reason to dislike yet, so fine with the start today

Annnd something something _postus interruptus_ by a sudden rainstorm, idr what else i was about to say before the mad scramble to put up my tablet (at least it woke me up a bit :p )

(Freakin sod flavor made me lol, kudos for that xD)

@ Tsaiah

I think you and I are pretty much on the same page. What do you make of sprityo? Curious about that when you get a chance.
@M Plus 7

After catching up with the thread, i tried the GTH exercise (which y'all did without me, smh) on myself, and on sprityo I misfired x3--they were almost a total blank. The only thing I've got in the memory banks is that he disected a case that i think was against him inside the quote style, and that he sounded angry. So reading thru them is definitely on my todo list for d2.

If you haven't talked about it yet, how do you feel about alien's treatment of kylemii and Luna?
I'll gladly take any excuse to do in real time GTH exercises, so by all means, if we can do another with you at some other point in this game, I am all for it.

If I recall correctly Jay and I held GTH exercises as many as ... 3 times in the course of one game? Was it Economics even?

Yeah, that was against Mac, what you're referring to. That sounds like a plan. Definitely let me know what you think once you get through his ISO. I think he's one of the most important players to sort right now.

I think Alien spewed Kyle as town pretty hard; it's probably the most TMI he was of anyone. That's my assessment of it anyway. I still wouldn't lock Kyle as town, but he's definitely my strongest town read of anyone outside of near confirmed land.

Re: Luna, I'm torn there. I actually just got to Jay's analysis so I'll read it in-depth here and throw out some thoughts.
Oooh yay maybe i get to play group GTH after all xD

And ty! So we're on pretry much exactly the same page about Kylemii.

I'll join you in reading that closer and we can compare. So far I haven't been able to shake the gut feeling that Alien flipped his read on her bc he suddenly saw a town ally, plus that thing alien did where he suspected her for suspecting TH bc he was 'too suspicious to be suspicious' that Aby bit into

Jay, explain to me further what you mean by this:

"I think this whole thing looks vaguely teammate-compatible, but it doesn't scream at me as a red flag. It's a lot of stuff that exists, and the fact that it's abyssum and alien seems more incidental than critical. The dialogue extended here. I don't care for the waffle read though."

Specifically with respect to the point re: incidental versus critical.

Specifically with respect to the point re: incidental versus critical.
alien's biggest reads list came in the form of a huge quoted post featuring abyssum's earlier big reads list. Sandwiched between the two reads lists were alien's responses to and takes on abyssum's reads. I wanted to make note of the fact that the two of them had been glued together in this moment, that alien had used abyssum's thickest content as a springboard to generate his own thickest content. Sometimes I think that sort of thing can be deliberate: teammates working with one another to infuse their most effortful fake posts into the game, because you can always count on your mafia mate to provide that opportunity the way you want it to be provided (should it be discussed behind the scenes).

If that's what happened, then that would represent a "critical" moment tying abyssum and alien together. It would be a serious red flag.

It's also possible that abyssum just posted a reads list, and alien decided on his own that he'd use that one to propel his own reads list. That wouldn't require abyssum's cooperation, rendering the moment "incidental" instead.

If I have to guess at which of those things is closer to our reality, I would guess the incidental version. The critical version is more elaborate and requires more pieces. It's still something to think about though.

Alright. Overall I'd say abyssum still looks good for sure. I get the moments of doubt though, and I do think perhaps she falls down a bit for me in terms of tiers.

I'll throw down a rainbow here with no explanations (don't have time), then I really have to go. I've spent too long here as it is.

You and me both, and I'd like to think that's in part thanks to you.
You always had the intrinsic motivation. I may have just provided some tools. ;)

Hi Turnip Head, what makes you say that?
Idk k ask me later
I will. I'm trying to decide if you're town, and attempting to scum-hunt, or if you're mafia and trying to stir up interest on an easy townie lynch. The "Idk k ask me later" answer makes me think it's the latter.

linki MP of course :p
I get a bad vibe from this post. It feels like a bit of a forced read? Like, it's so easy to find what Turnip did as suspicious but gut-wise I just don't see it as suspicious at all because it's so obviously suspicious, yet Luna is sinking her teeth into it a bit here. This combined with her saying I have a commentary vibe to my posts with little opinions, which I disagree with and makes me wonder if her read there is genuine too, makes me suspicious of her.
what, you think what Turnip Head is doing is too suspicious to even be suspicious? what's your thought process here? why can't Lunalee view this as a legitimate suspicion and comment on it? this almost reads like you're not really suspecting this post but are instead trying to disagree with Luna's read on you without actually just quoting it and saying "no you're wrong."

i should hope you disagree with Luna's less-than-favorable read on you (you know if you have opinions, you know if you've been in commentary mode), but why doesn't THAT read genuine to you? you can't just say that nothing seems genuine without giving any reasons as to why. if you disagree, OK, but lay out why you think that instead of just saying that you're suspicious of Luna. disagreeing with a read doesn't mean that that read came from scum, and not thinking a read is right doesn't mean it's insincere
JaggedJimmyJay--i think it's very, very unlikely that a scum!aby ever makes this post to a scummate. The tone is wrong, the words are wrong, everything is wrong for that. They're actually grilling alien there, calling him out. Aby isn't likely to bus until/unless necessary, imo, and i sure don't see them doing it on d0/1. In fact, I think Aby's more likely to be supportive of teammates, regardless of team.

Jay, maybe try to imagine Aby as a coffee pot, brewing and percolating the grounds for a while, before the coffee's ready to be poured--then read thru your interaction post again. How does that affect your takes there?

This is a thoughtful set of worlds, and i kinda can't wait to see Aby's reaction to it :p

Damn straight.

If there's one thing I've learned the most over the past few months at Champs, it's that my biggest weakness as a player headed into the tournament, as a townie anyway, was that I doubted myself too much out of fear of being wrong and let myself be persuaded into nonsensical WIFOM arguments inside my own head that not only wasted time but caused myself to look suspicious and clutter up the thread.

No longer. I feel like I've gotten much better at just taking a stance based on gut and analysis, and not only just force myself to do so in good faith and feel good about it, but also do so all the while increasing the accuracy of my reads.

Reassessment is one thing and always can and should happen. That's also something I feel like I've gotten much better at over the last couple of years.

why is Luna's alignment dependent on Robot's? i understand that Robot flipping red would inform the read on Luna, but is it actually dependent on Robot being scum? (i.e., would a town Robot inform the read similarly and change your view on alien potentially shading Luna there?)

JaggedJimmyJay wrote: Sat Aug 18, 2018 4:40 pm abyssum, you should talk about this. :nicenod:
let me know if you want me to respond to anything specifically; otherwise i'll just make a few notes.

- i'm wrong a lot. i don't particularly care about being wrong early on, though (and my frequent wrongness is why i enjoy group participation/alternative takes so much). i think alien was probably trying to fuel some paranoia with "you haven't mindmelded with MP7, right, why haven't you mindmelded, hmm makes you think" but it didn't really work.

- i don't take suspicion very seriously because i think it gets in the way of me actually doing what i want and need to get done in a game. i didn't take it seriously when you or colin(?) did it either, because i think it's silly to get hung up on every little point of suspicion (as either alignment, for what it's worth; it's just sort of a philosophy)

- alien doesn't know why i seemed off because i wasn't off, i was just not agreeing with him on his suspicions and he didn't like it. he started calling me "off" when i was digging at his Lunalee comments, but claimed it was because of my reluctance to read MP7.

- alien 'changing' his read on MP7 because of points i've made means Actually Nothing, because he moved him down from strong mafia to moderate mafia...thereby eliminating his hypothetical strong mafia tier. if anything, he wanted an excuse to have more mislynching chances, and my speculation on why alien could be tunneling MP7 as town is a convenient way to do that

- the me and sprityo thing is actually a really good point and should probably result in me at least reconsidering where sprityo stands for me. i don't think that would have occurred to me, at least not for a while

- i actually did have neutral reads in my rainbow list, they're purple! :b but i try not to do "neutral" in the sense if "i cannot read this person" unless they just haven't really posted/played early on (that kind of evaporates by D2); i do it more for conflicting reads than anything.

let me know if there's anything else you want

i understood more of your mentality when i thought back on it, so this doesn't apply much anymore, but i'll explain it anyway: you seemed sort of...downtrodden? in a way that i don't really expect to see from you, and i didn't understand why

but i was extra confused by you questioning alien on his usage of "town feathers" because that's just the most Tsaiah-esque phrase i've ever heard

i don't like dwelling on things that are technically WIFOM, but i never treat a teammate on D1 the way that i treated alien

it might seem a bit out-of-place or unlikely in this site's meta, but i actively dislike bussing, especially early bussing, and have enough confidence to at least attempt to help teammates achieve better thread standing than what alien was getting. i don't try to make their standing potentially worse by digging at things that make their arguments fall apart, which is what the TH/Lunalee stuff was doing

it's just not even close to something that i would do

Thanks! It’s super.

I’ve perused your recent strings of words, and I think you sound authentic. I understand your views on bussing too. I tend to avoid it when I can, and I think many mafia people do it too much for their own good.

I am trying to find ways in which the game isn’t so simple as Robot and DharmaHelper. Who else should I care about?

hello jay! hope you're having a nice walk
Thanks! It’s super.

I’ve perused your recent strings of words, and I think you sound authentic. I understand your views on bussing too. I tend to avoid it when I can, and I think many mafia people do it too much for their own good.

I am trying to find ways in which the game isn’t so simple as Robot and DharmaHelper. Who else should I care about?
if it's not as simple as Robot and DharmaHelper (and realistically, it probably isn't), i would look more toward players like Turnip Head, Marmot, maybe sprityo or Lunalee. emphasis on maybe because Lunalee/sprityo i think are less likely the other players listed as of right now, but they're not clear, either.

sometimes i feel sort of bad including players like Turnip Head in my suspicions because they're kinda low-hanging fruit but then i remember that they're that bc they're mostly lolposting and i stop feeling as bad.

turn into a prince and wow me plz!

Your reads are essentially the exact same as mine, abyssum. And MP’s.

Everyone is in complete agreement.
