Re: The Lion King [Day 0]
Hey MP7. A lot of the players in the game are hard townreading you. What are your thoughts on this? Do you suspect there might be some TMIers or scum trying to pocket you in that bunch, or do you think that it's just town finding each other early?

Re: The Lion King [Day 1]

It was a lively morning at Pride Rock, but that much was to be expected. Outlanders had made their way into Pride Lands and attacked a herd of unsuspecting gazelles, taking their young ones mercilessly. There was unrest, everyone was talking at the same time, anxiety and dread filled the air. Simba looked out to see the worry and fear in the Pridelanders' eyes; he knew a dark era had reached Pride Lands and Scar was behind it. He had known his uncle's exile wouldn't last forever, but he had to act quickly and find out where the Outlanders were hiding to put an end to this unrest before it got out of control. Mufasa's spirit had warned him that Scar's vengeance would be a lot stronger and harder to defeat a second time around. It was time to gather all the animals and work together to banish the Outlanders once and for all.
It is now Day 1. You have 24 hours to banish an Outlander from Pride Lands.
Whoever has the most votes at the end of the day will be banished OR with 13 players alive it takes 7 to reach majority before the deadline.

Re: The Lion King [Day 0]
Since this is becoming more of a distraction than it's worth...
2. It was obviously a fake read, not sure what you think the scum motivation is, esp since I never followed up. & setting up associatives at this stage is bad for business.
3. Not getting into this.
4. I actually asked dunya pregame to give me a town role PM, because otherwise I wouldn't be able to follow her rules. I'm pretty bad as scum bc I get overinvested, spend a ton of effort on the early game and burn out and unintentionally throw the game later on. It's a problem that I need to solve, but not in my first game on TS. I think I referred to this in the intro thread when Jay said I was not terrible.
1. I posted in the signup thread that I already had my first post ready. Also I copy-pasted the lyrics and replaced like 5 words in an existing song, I barely did anything. So it's NAI and I was barely trying regardless. Plus y'know I wrote the rulebook for Needlessly Complicated in one night, effort is not a resource I'm stingy with generally.protocultures wrote: ↑Tue Jul 14, 2020 4:03 am Urist - I take the song as slightly scummy if anything. Reasoning? Trying too hard.
They scumread dizzy as 99% mafia. Not sure how they can do that this early. Reeks of a fake read or bussing for credit.
Softing PR this early is also kid of scummy imo. Its bad if you are really PR, and Urist is pretty good at mafia from looking at the insane setup they created on 451, and its confusing for town if you are softing as a vanilla town, and makes it more likely to make a real PR pressured to out. Overall I hate it.
"I am town, and yes it's very cool. I get so emotionally exhausted when playing scum, it's ridic. Glad I don't have to do that here" - dislike statements like these and read them as slightly scummy, might just need to get some more forum games under my belt since I seem to see a lot of these "phew im so glad im town" posts on day 1 in forum games.

Re: The Lion King [Day 1]
I don't think people actually care about the scumread as much as they care about your non-caring response to the scumread, which is why I was seeking clarification on that. Like I genuinely don't think the song is AI and don't care that proto thinks the song is AI. I do care that you responded to proto saying that with nonchalance. I'm not saying "write up a post explaining why proto's accusation about the song is wrong!" I'm saying "this seems like a good opportunity to probe proto's thought process and try to understand where he's coming from with that read, and what he's like as a player".
There's nothing that says a fake can't surpass the real thing.

And like I said I think it's mostly just a playstyle thing but if you are town I think it is a missed opportunit to get good content for sorting proto

Alright, that's not what I understood at all. And you're right that it's a playstyle thing... I came here to broaden my repertoire so I'm trying to conform but obviously there's friction on my end due to not understanding subtext, etc.
Anyway I'll throw myself a pity party later tonight.
Is your only reason for giving a town read on proto meta-based? And is it only the "no mech talk" thing we discussed before that has you townreading him?

Re: The Lion King [Day 1]
I like the answers Urist gave, although it was hard work getting there. Wish they had just responded with that to begin with.
The problem I still have with Urist is why arent they trying to determine MY alignment. Why arent they trying to see if my read is legit or manufactured. The lack of any interest kind of spooks me.
Probably voting Scirrius or Urist today.
Got some more people who need to get in the mix to make a final vote though.

I understand the burning desire to solve one player, especially if you feel like it's your responsibility to do so, like... if that player has an extended wolf range and/or you feel like you hold better tools to unlocking them than most, buttutuu wrote: ↑Tue Jul 14, 2020 6:51 am scirrus is maybe the top poster but i dont feel like he has given me the "key" to unlock the "door" to his "mind" and figure out how he works. i cant get a read on him
gun to my head i dont have a read on dizzy as well and i wished this wasnt so since he wasnt hard at all to townread last game. this could be on my part (paranoia that i might be wrong) (or paranoia that i might be overestimating myself and "spreading myself too thin" which might result in inaccurate reads if i try too hard). i dunno
my biggest focus this game will be trying to read alison. i really wish that if shes scum i can catch her. this is me reading all of alison's posts carefully and trying to catch her scumslip

I just also wanted to use this as a general opportunity to say to you and everyone (including myself! because I will inevitably forget this at some point like I do every game) that this is a team game! We can solve this together. The burden is collective.
Also, I would never want to tell anyone else how to play and I do not know how you most prefer to play, but trying to catch scum inherently is difficult. POE is great! So maybe you can catch Alison best that way?
