GAME 2 - 8-Ball Mafia [END]

The Orb of Odin

In a castle in medieval Scandinavia, eight warriors are meeting around a rectangular table. They are members of a special guard that exists to protect the king of their land.

A week ago, they learned that a mighty sorcerer was plotting to take over the kingdom, and that some of the warriors may have been helping the wizard gain power. But they have no way of knowing who the traitors are.

And most importantly, they have another mission. Last night, one of the eight warriors was called to the Statue of Odin in the back of the castle. There, a ritual was done where the statue produced the Orb of Odin, a black orb with a symbol of infinite on it. Whoever shatters the orb shall have the power to kill one person instantly. The warrior was instructed to guard the orb with his life, and not let the traitors obtain it. No one knows which warrior was the one who received the orb.

The eight men stare at each other. Then, they decide to go back to their positions. Hopefully they will spot the traitors before they manage to kill the rest of the group.

its not always scummy but i feel like ive seen scum often dedicate more effort than town in "following protocol" and like, explaining what they plan to do in so much detail. i think its a towny thing to not explain that much what do u plan to do

Reason I said that is because I keep quoting questions and trying to answer them in a way that makes sense, and then not being able to formulate an answer, so then I just give up. I'm pretty sure the problem is with my reads and not anything else, which is why I'm going to work on reworking my reads. I said the bolded because I didn't want someone to be like "hey PSI are you gonna answer my question" when after updating my reads the question isn't even going to matter.

Yeh, the one we make is ground beef and corn (sometimes spinach, sometimes kidney beans), mashed potatoes and some shredded cheddar melted on top. It’s pretty good!

Hmm, biggest thing I notice from Dunya's ISO is that she's been pushing me most pretty much from the start, and she's also been subtly pushing Esooa (by asking mutliple people why they have her as town), yet her POE is me and Marmot. She's made very little mention of Marmot, and yet she puts him as W in her gth and Esooa as T, and voted switched to Marmot briefly (before switching back to me). But she does later list me, Marmot, and Esooa in her POE. I just find it a little odd that she seems to scumread Marmot a lot more than she does Esooa, but mentions Esooa far more. Outside of that, she hasn't really given me a reason to townread her persay, but I don't have much evidence for a scumread.

Dunya, can you talk to me about your Esooa and Marmot reads a little bit for me? Help me understand?

Readwise, I'm still unsure where to place her. I'll say null with a slight scumread.

I really don't have much to say about him atm. His reads are...confusing, for some reason? He hasn't given a lot of explanation for them. His POE goes from Dunya/Nutella to voting me, with little progression. But I'm getting the feeling he just plays that way. So I'm not sure.

If you could talk to me about your reads, Epignosis, that would be great.

While she's done very little so far, she has given some thoughts that I like, and that actually kind of reflect my own (for example, the thing about why wouldn't Epi just vote Nutella). I'm not very familiar with her, so I'm not sure how that would change things, but I like what little she's posted so far, so tentative townlean.

Would love to see more of her of course though.

Marmot is occupying this uncomfortable white-noise space right now. He's giving me weird mixed signals that I can't really put my finger on. I do also note that he said the phrase "you could just ___" three times in this one ISO, which is kind of a lot considering how few posts there are. I'm not sure if that means anything, but this sort of "this is what you should do" attitude is kind of odd.

I realized that I have like, absolutely no reason to reasonably justify a townread for Nanook, but I physically can't put him lower than mild townread. I think it must be a super strong gutread, so I might just go along with it for now. Or maybe I'm being hardcore pocketed right now. Who knows.

In the beginning I found her kind of odd, but lately she's been feeling more and more townie. But I am also afraid I might be being hard pocketed here, with the way she's been hard defending me and going after the person who scumreads me the most. But I also might just be being paranoid here (that's what I'm thinking tbh). I'm finding it difficult to envision her as mafia. Like, I honestly can't see W!Nutella choosing Dunya as the 8 ball target and then death-tunneling her from the very start of the Day, but if Dunya's not the target, she's getting absolutely nowhere tunneling Dunya. Unless they're going for a different strategy. This is probably a ton of WIFOM right here, so I think imma just stop there. I think she's probably town and her reads make sense but I'll be wary of being pocketed.

She's got a townie energy about her that is consistent with every other game I've seen, and I feel like that would be difficult to fake, especially since it's been so long since she's been wolf. But Dunya went from "probably town" to "in the POE" to "town" based off of a certain post, and I don't think I saw her give any reasoning for putting Dunya in the POE? Apart from that I do still want to call her town.

Right now I'm working off of the mindset that I was the mafia's target. The way the thread has developed makes sense around that mindset. So I'd say one of Dunya or Epi is probably mafia. If Dunya is mafia, her tunnel is an...interesting strategy, to say the least, so that alone makes me think it's less likely to be Dunya if I'm the target. But if I'm the target, Epi being mafia makes perfect sense, with the slight push on me on N0 and later voting me, and if I flip and mafia gets a NK most of the blame would go on Dunya and it wouldn't look that bad for Epi. So in that world, Epi seems the most likely one to be mafia.

My POE is now Dunya/Epignosis/Marmot. Don't think I'd vote outside of that.

My greatest skill in Mafia, if I had to choose one, is that I am an elusive lynch victim of either alignment.

My greatest flaw in Mafia, if I had to choose one, is that I am notorious for fucking up an endgame scenario for the civilians, especially this year.

So while I have given consideration to how I would use the setup to...ahem...set up civilians based on the mafia's prediction, I have given almost none to how I would approach this as a civilian, because I really don't care to think like that. I would say this setup slightly favors mafia early on because it encourages people irrationally to abandon textbook tried-and-true methods for preemptive strategies that can be toyed with.

This is a large reason why I suspect nutella. nutella is a skilled player, and as a civilian she should know how to catch mafia and that the setup plays into their hands early on. Instead she made a big fuss encouraging just what I described above.
