Oh geez, I forgot how dang active folks are on Day 0s around here. Sorry in advance if I have a low post count to start out with. It's been exactly 45 years since I last played a game of 'Mafia' on the webzone mafiathesyndicate dot com.

All I have read-wise is an impulsive fear of the old RYM crew because memories of old games still wake me up at night in a cold sweat, and a default wariness of everyone else because I have lost all meta on you, if I ever had it to begin with.

TSP is either a TMI machine as mafia or he is town. Everyone else was skeptical about my claim but he said immediately and confidently he knew I was town; he also asked if it was multiball out of the blue, and heavily implied that he had reason to do so when pressed on why.

So either TSP is making some serious scum errors or he has a role that gives him setup information (which is townie). I think the latter is more likely than the former.

To someone without deep knowledge of the setup or the Fargo theme, there would seem to be two available theories about why someone else would immediately speculate about multiball:

1) That someone is on a mafia team and has some unique insight indicating that it's possible.

2) Fargo as a theme presents some unique structure that could be appropriate for multiball.

I don't fault Sloonei for his interpretation, and it seems evident Tony is familiar with the theme. So #2 is fine.

2) doesn't explain his reaction to KZA's accusation that he was on a surprisingly small mafia team.

I was thinking before the game - what do i do when i rand scum? People expect alot of my scum game i need to impress i cant disapppoint. So i wss thinking of opening up old town games of mine and lowkey copy pasting postd, only changing a little bit. But im town so i dont have toml. But i think it eoupd have worked. Too many typos means the typos are intentional. Intentional typos means tutuu is trying to pocket us with her cutesy half-clueless half-tryhard act like she does as scum every time. The difference is that it's genuine when she's town and inauthentic when she's scum.

I am wary of the motivation for Alison to claim exactly like this in her entry post. She is explicitly wedging herself into a pre-formed town-core via this claim. It seems as though she has the confidence to project this claim into the thread right off the bat because she is comfortable declaring town reads on Mac and Jay ~20 posts into the game. I don't disagree with either of those reads, but it feels like Alison has pre-concocted a plan to drop this partial claim which hinges on these other "strong players" also being town. I question whether Alison would make this claim if she didn't have those town reads, but I also question that she would be confident enough in these reads to make the claim only 20 posts in.

In the Mafia Alison world, she wants to wedge herself into a towncore of her own invention by capitalizing on an advantageous role which can (presumably) be used to appear as mechanically confirmed later down the line (we explicitly are told that we know nothing about the setup. Any variety of a role claim should be taken with a grain of salt right now), and pocketing a few of the more authoritative voices in the thread right off the bat.

Why can't I be doing all this shit as town? What specifically about the way I went about claiming made you think it was "pre-concocted" (presumably in scum chat), or that I wouldn't be "confident" enough in my early reads to claim based off them?

For the record I decided to post 1 claim the moment I saw my role. The fact that I opened up with a couple of nice town reads on JJJ and Mac made it even sweeter, but if I was NAI on everyone I would have claimed anyway.

alison is a very purposeful player, and i didn't understand her purpose behind asking that specific question to sloonei. it didn't feel like a question that was intended to get alignment indicative information out of sloonei, nor did it feel like a question that was intended to create a serious deal with him, so it left me scratching my head. it made me wonder if alison was asking an effectively pointless question for the sake of justifying her vote in the poll, and didn't feel comfortable placing a vote down w/out providing some kind of justification for it

Some similar concerns have at least passed through my head. I don't have the same "early" anecdotes to reference -- I'm not sure I played in any relevant game. I do have a basic meta parallel however, from Bread Mafia, wherein Alison's first play was to spam similar town reads (including a frivolous town read on me) to ingratiate herself in an early town core. Notably she included her own teammate (DkKoba) in that example.

In Radiohead Mafia, where I was town, I wrote this in my first post:

The following players are town: DrWilgy, Dyslexicon, Hally, Herm, MacDougall, Master Radishes, Oddmerta, Poison Chan, sprityo, SPF and tutuu.

The behaviors you are describing are NAI. You're reversing cause and effect; you shouldn't scumread me for spamming townreads at the start of the game because you've seen me do it as scum once. Instead you should consider that I did it as scum in Bread Mafia because it's what I always do as town.
