Game Rules
► Show Spoiler
Game begins July 12 of 2021.
Start of Day and Start of Night will be at 11:00 am US Eastern Time (08:00 am US Pacific Time)
Day phases will be of 48 hours. Night phases will be of 24 hours.
Minimum post count is 10 posts and Maximum is 100 per day phase, the limit is never lifted and going over the limit or posting under 10 in the first 24 hours of every day phase, automatically vanillalizes for the following night.
Eliminations are decided via plurality. At tied everyone will sleep without an elimination. LyLo will not be announced and votes will not lock at LyLo either. Majority will be enabled at Final 7.
Role reveals will be full (Alignment, Role, Role description) barring circumstances that prevent it.
Unless your rolecard says otherwise, you may not holster actions and you must cycle through all your actions to use one of them again.
This game is considered a mini-mash, bastard and probably unbalanced not because of the way it was designed but because of the many game breaking ways this could go. This is not a game that you proudly add to your win/loss stats, this is a game where you will create memories that will last, memories of having lots of fun. Yes! This game is all about fun and craziness or just memories of pain...yah.
This game is bastard and I won’t lie to you just for shits and giggles but we will definitely lie to you as roles mandate.
Town wins when they have eliminated all threats to their survival and at least one townie is alive.
Mafia wins upon reaching parity to town and all other threats to their survival are dead.
There are no third parties in this setup, not starting off and not planned either.
There isn't and there never will be a circumstance where a player loses his wincon. If someone says they lost their wincon, burn it with fire!
Mafia has a mandatory and assignable factional night kill. Such factional kill can be tracked and/or blocked.
Mafia also has the soup kill, a mechanic that allows them to kill players by correctly guessing their role actions. Scum has to submit only 1 of a player's JOAT's abilities for the soup kill to work. This is a mechanic that punishes claiming, there is no info of how many soup kill shots scum got, it could be 1 or it could be infinite. The soup kill is absolute and inevitable if a role ability is submitted correctly.
If you claim, do it by paraphrasing what I told you. Do not copy and paste the role card info to the thread. Same applies to conversations that take place in private chats the hosts assign to you.
If any day activation abilities exist, only one ability can be used per cycle! Meaning that if you use X Role ability on Day 1, you cannot use another role ability on Night 1.
I will only answer questions about your own role actions. Questions about mechanics or how other roles interact with yours will be ignored.
The DVC is unspoiled, please don’t bother us asking for spoilers, it will not happen, not until certain mechanics are deactivated. However, there is no punishment from the game mod if you spoil the chat, however, do note that it is not recommended.
Discord is mandatory, if you can’t use discord and you landed a role that requires you to have discord, you will be replaced.
All site’s rules are in effect. A moderator will be present spectating the show. Outside of Game Information violations will be punished and the severity of that punishment will be decided on a case to case basis. Angleshooting will get you modkilled without a warning.
Do not talk to other players outside the thread unless you were given permission by the host to do so.
Do not post during night phases please, even if the thread is open.
Night Actions submission deadline is 1 minute before reaching end of night. 07:59 (EST) Ok! / 8:00 is too late.
Do not sabotage! You are expected to play to your win condition(s). Intentionally undermining your team is not allowed. Joining a game with sole intent to troll is not allowed. ("Bad" or "alternative" plays, however, are allowed, if you sincerely believe in their merit.)
Special Mechanics
► Show Spoiler
The first three cycles, players will vote in the poll for whoever they want them to receive
Night Kill Immunity the following night. Each player can vote for up to two different players per day phase. The winner of this boon will be decided by plurality. If there are ties, no one will get the immunity.
_________________________________________
Players will [VOTE:
PLAYER] aubergine in the thread for whoever they want to eliminate. A vote count will be posted periodically.
_________________________________________
Every player has a flavor card that looks like this:
Every player can on odd nights,
attempt to swap the flavor card in their possession with another player's. This decision does not have to be consensual and once submitted, the swap will go through. Every player has ONE chance to swap at night and once the swap is submitted to the host,
it cannot be changed.
Mafia may or may not have a different swapping process than town. This action does not count as a role action.
Do note that none of the flavor cards are alignment indicative and that they will flip with a dead player too (whichever is in their possession at the time).
Each card has a small chance at
triggering a specific effect for whoever is carrying the card, again,
these effects are not alignment indicative.

The night phase in this game will last 21 hours.
Then there will be a "Dawn" phase, where actions or mechanics that only work during this phase will be processed.

The Vote Count will look like this:
Out Of Game Information (OGI) Rules
► Show Spoiler
Mafia, as a game, can only work when the players inside the game abide by a certain kind of fiction. It's not roleplaying, not exactly, but the idea that a mafia game exists inside its own little bubble is what prevents games from degenerating into rampant angleshooting, prevents games from spilling over into other games, and lets us call each other liars without making it a personal attack.
Game integrity being paramount to healthy, fair games, I place the highest priority on preserving it.
Here's the Spirit of the Game version of OGI, and the reasons I'm against OGI influencing a game:
The spirit of the rule regarding OGI is essentially this: no one should ever post anything that isn't about the game that a second player could reasonably make an alignment read based on.
Frequently, it's the second-order effects that OGI has on the game that are so disruptive.
Even if you personally see nothing wrong / nothing alignment indicative about asking the game host a question in the thread, or commenting on a player's online activity elsewhere, or making a read based on what someone who's in another game is doing in your game, it's the catastrophic ripple effect that discussing these things in the game thread has on game integrity that's the problem. Players can and will read into your OGI comments, and players will read into those comments, and so on, and suddenly the game is no longer self-contained, no longer actually about the game.
To be clear: Sometimes OGI will influence a read of yours. It happens to everyone. "Man, Person X is posting up a storm in this other game, but is a complete lurker here. Wonder if they randed wolf." That kind of thinking is bound to happen sometimes; it's unavoidable to a certain extent. What is completely unacceptable is publicly bringing up that read in the game thread.
Here's the short version, the quick and dirty "how should I act in a game" version: For the purposes of a game of mafia, everything outside the bubble should be treated (publicly) as if it doesn't exist.
*
What a player is or isn't doing online (outside of the game), anywhere, doesn't exist (including forum online status and other ongoing games).
*
The game host doesn't exist. (All communication with / about mods should be done privately)
*
Reports don't exist (if you need to report something, just do it, don't mention it publicly and do not threaten to report someone.) Similarly, infractions and warnings don't exist. If you get one, handle it privately, don't mention it in the game thread. Same applies for substitution intent.
*
Requesting a player to sub out or to concede the game is not an option.
The exceptions to "the bubble" are a player's previous mafia history / mannerisms / preferences (everything generally covered under the term "meta") excluding ongoing games, and a player alluding to their own real-life status in the context of thread activity levels.
For example, saying you're going to bed, or going to miss the first 24 hours of a day for RL reasons, or that your dog is on fire, are perfectly acceptable statements. (Though I strongly encourage you to expeditiously assist your dog instead of posting about it in a mafia game.)
When you make such a statement, however, it is required to be alignment agnostic. No one should be able to plausibly read anything about your alignment into anything you say about your RL status.
Respect the bubble. Game integrity is an ideal that only works if everyone in the game actively works to maintain it.
Angleshooting Rules
► Show Spoiler
Angleshooting in essence is the act of exploiting loopsholes to gain an advantage in the game. If you think something shouldn't be done in the game, it most likely shouldn't and you should ask the mod first.
Here is some examples of angleshooting:
"My goodness,
you were online at the time the red check was made and already had votes on you.
Nice claim,
but you really should change your account settings if you want to make a play like this."
If you're leaning to save Jack, turn your online status off. If you're leaning to let him die, leave it on another 10 minutes.
If you have been silenced vote me once and if you have been silenced and you have a result on me, vote twice!
In the first example, the player was making a read based on another player's online status.
In the second example, the player was asking a dead player with post-mortem powers to communicate via hints.
In the third example, a player is asking a silenced player to communicate through votes.
They are all angleshooting and all those players would be modkilled by me, do not be this player please.
