Getting really into the game design, finally read all the roles, rules, etc.. Want a friend to have BTSC with that won't kill me :scared: . I'm going through the thread backwards, I don't really care about most conversations happening tbh except how awesome Glorfindel's playstyle is and how funny it would be to have him in this game.

There are two players who I personally like but don't like them in this game, I'm still figuring out why. Leaving it there for now I think.

Re: Mafia: A World Asunder - GAME THREAD [Day 2]

Most of her posts are just saying Sloon is town and the usual jokes. In Firefly she spent most of the game coming hard after our teammate Golden, which was hilarious. I think Sloon was probably a high-posting non-teammate that she tried to cling onto and win over so they could dominate the game later.

I *suspect* we're only looking at a teammate or two for TH. The roles don't have alignment marked but looking at them there's only a few that stand out as obviously bad and then you have to split them in at least two teams plus potential baddie-ish independents. There's a lot of secrets in the roles and it's an LC/BR game so there's probably opportunities for recruitment and all that (I don't have a better/precise analysis of the roles handy but that's what I thought when I was reading them earlier).

It’s a subtle way to establish a preemptive cop-out for either train-hopping later (to show they stick to their convictions) or blame-shifting to set up fall guys who tie polls that result in mislynches.

Close lynches and ties (whether mid-phase or at EOD) are valuable sources of information. Granted, that information is best in hindsight after the herd has thinned some.
like
We may not know who is on the Tribunal but we’re starting out with more civs than baddies (unless this game is extra-double whacky) and there are also two baddie factions, so the odds are against Tribunal being filled with one baddie team.
what is tribunal?
"Likes" G-man's speculation about tie naysayers and doesn't know what the tribunal is. This post does nothing. What did you like about G-man's post, Kyle?
i don't remember what i liked about that post exactly, because looking at it now i don't think it shows anything particularly positive about gman. i think the "like" was more for the purpose of supporting the idea he was presenting, than supporting gman for having the idea in the first place, if that makes sense.

DH is talking about something specific to this game and kyle questions the history of it. I still can do nothing with this.
i was irked because it seemed like he was posturing about something he shouldn't reasonably have a strong opinion about based on what i remembered of his past track record.

I don't like when people try to make big deals out of anyone's day 1 vote, because frankly, to me they ALL are weak votes. Why call one specific one out?
"Like!"
Now he Likes timmer's post calling out Luna. What did you like about timmer's post, Kyle?
i don't remember that post at all. maybe the "like" system is not as effective as it could be, i remember seeing timmer's hunting effort and thinking "damn that looks like some good effort, i better 'like' that" but i don't know why i liked that post in particular.

Colin.

This post is less concerning coming from Kyle than it would be from other players, but something about it seems yucky. I can read it as kyle holding back from needing to provide a read.

I like Epi’s post re: DDL’s role speculation.
This was the main ping. Up to this point he had asked a mechanics question and said he voted for the N0 poll randomly. His first engagement with the actual game was to say he liked Epi's post on DDL, with no elaboration or follow up. Since I was going to be out of pocket all day, I figured I would rather have my vote out there and doing something than locked up tight and useless, so I voted. I didn't want to say my reason, because it gives him an easy out if he's mafia to make the suspicion go away. I wanted to see a response not based on my suspicion, and sure enough I got it. Not giving a reason also sort of forces people who jump on the wagon to supply their own reasoning, rather than just saying "yep I agree." D1 I think that's particularly valuable.
like!!!
What did you like about cbob's post, Kyle?
cbob's post here and the actions detailed within it represented to me what was indicative of a civ minded cbob, maybe it's naive, but it seemed like a specific enough thought process that it would be more likely to come from a civ than mafia. a small gambit that slightly sacrifices optics for the sake of learning slightly more is more likely to benefit civ than maf, i think.

You have to trust Luna for that to work, right? She was just either being real gullible or real shady, to my POV.
You think she’s faking a cop (or whatever) claim on her hitman buddy? That will get her lynched when Gman flips bad.
She roleclaimed on Day 2?? I somehow missed that revelation.
She said she has "reason to believe" G-Man didn't kill nutella. Which doesn't make him innocent when there's at two mafia teams presumably with several members each, but that's still what she came out with and what Sloonei's list is about I think.

Quin
G-man

As has been said, it's a difference in culture. Some of us come from a culture where info dumping is either explicitly not allowed in games, or is generally considered bad form. So, even when we aceept that it is part of this culture, we still don't necessarily like it.
sprityo wrote: Wed Dec 12, 2018 7:45 pm I see a lot of complaining that I got lucky to get information, sorry to dissapoint everyone with being different and letting you know something helpful I guess
As I asked above, do you know anything about the source of this information? Is the woman a force for good? Does her information come from hosts or from another player? Does she always tell the truth?

And why are you interpreting as necessarily being that sabie is bad, as opposed to sabie is physically adjacent to someone bad?
I think some games are designed more for discussing openly (or at least collaboratively with the BTSC rooms and all that), and this is one of them. I mean maybe not to the degree of telling everyone literally all I know and workshop it but at least to use information efficiently when there's so many more things going on than just the thread.

(speaking of this sort of design, insertnamehere whats up)

Trickster - Has an aura of three squares, within which any info that is given or received will be corrupted in the Trickster’s favour. When the Trickster kills, that kill can be forged. When the Trickster enters BTSC, it may be under any name.
There's also this.

I'll be more explicit: How do you know you were talking to an old woman and not to the Trickster, appearing in a chat room as an old woman?
It wasn’t BTSC, no chat room
I was thinking more the first part of the role (corrupted info) if anything btw. It's probably legit (mad old forest ladies are good).

People misuse the term. It’s when the reads are unsubstantiated and based on nothing apparent in context, like if I said, “My scumreads are sprit, Epignosis, Sloonei and maybe speedchuck” and offered little-to-no-reasoning (because I can’t actually supply any).

If the mady woman's information is cryptic/indirect, sabie seems to be implicating wilgy. Plus, DH's points on wilgy are not insubstantial.

Luna's hasty support of sprit's info has knocked her down a peg in my eye. I still town read her, but I'm a little concerned by that.
I looked at the sabie/Wilgy thing. Basically on Day 1 she went really quick from "I can't tell why people suspect Wilgy, he just voted and left" to "I suspect Wilgy, he just voted and left". I don't think it reflects great on her or that it has anything to do with sprit's stuff tbh (and she can maybe correct me a little bit or dig more into her case? I don't think it's a lot more than that).

There's more to it today. DH has done some work that points toward wilgy as a possible partner of TH's, and sprityo's recent claim may possibly implicate wilgy in some convoluted way.
TH's posts on Wilgy basically amount to the same thing Epi and I are talking about now. DH has made good posts but I really don't think this is it.

sprityo wrote: Tue Dec 11, 2018 2:29 pm So I didn’t read into TH being bad or really read at all, but could someone clear out the possibility for me that TH wasn’t forged into being the trickster upon death?

I never trust flavor posts out of habit (speedchuck and I probably share this) this is a role that can make anyone else they kill reveal as something else. It’s not like I can ask long con “did the trickster for real for real die?”

Linki: very well, I’ll keep that in mind sloon
The answer to your question is that it seems like it would be theoretically possible. If the trickster is bad and killed th and forged it to say th was the trickster and was bad, sure. But... why would they do that? It's interesting that you bring up such a specific question when you have barely participated.
The simplest answer is that a mafia person died. If we make that assumption, we can move forward with analyzing TH and sussing out someone to lynch today. If we get all suspicious that TH only flipped bad, and wasn't really bad, then we don't have a clear path forward for today's lynch. I'd rather assume the simplest scenario that TH was bad, and use that information to move forward.
This one post was good.

I can't tell if this vote is more a defense of wolbre or an act against wilgy. It's both for sure, but I'm unclear on what luna's primary motive was, if that sort of thing matters at all.

:ponder:

Conclusion on EOD Luna: She showed up late in the day with a vote parked on Colin. She needed to make a decision on Wilgy or wolbre and got involved. I like that on the surface. She made a decision and stuck to it. There was not a lot of time to think things through, so everything came out a bit jumbled, but I'd be interested in hearing what exactly was going through Luna's mind when she was deciding who to vote for, just to help contextualize these posts a bit better. I lean town on her behavior here, but that's not a strong read at the moment.

This post is weird and I may be misunderstanding it. But is colonialbob saying people scared to be held responsible will vote off wagon? Then Sloonei quotes it, not only saying he's voting off wagon, but that he's not even voting for who he wants to vote for. If you're going to vote off wagon anyways, why not go for juliets?
cbob was suggesting that we should vote for a player who was voting for wilgy at the time because a number of people were complaining that his wagon was shady and weak. Tranq was on the wagon and was a person who'd garnered a fair amount of suspicion.

Why'd you kill nutella?
I would like to look at Wolbre's wagon. That's a good place to start.

Nutella died? I haven't seen the end of night post.
Agreed RE: wolbre wagon. Let us know what you think when you get a chance.

I wanted to doublecheck my town read on Luna from earlier and it hasn't gone away. It's still not super strong, but there's nothing here that really stands out to me as bad, and a few points that look genuine and proactive. I'd be open to alternative theories though.
