No, not necessarily. Both mean and nice can be effective under the right circumstances, and they can often be effective when used simultaneously (in a good cop/bad cop kind of way).
Mean players are probably likely to incite emotion and passion in their suspects, which tends to make those people easier to read. It can also create discord though, and make people less eager to follow the lead of the meanie.
Nice players may be more vulnerable to being taken advantage of by those who will get away with lackluster play, but they're also much easier to follow and [arguably] harder to suspect.
And when it comes to Mafia play, being "nicer than JJJ" isn't saying much. I wouldn't characterize you as being super nice yourself. You can be a scary bumblebee when you want to be.
