That's the point I made. The Day 1 posts look nice in isolation, but when the progression beyond that point is assessed the credibility is lost.Scotty wrote: ↑Mon Jun 04, 2018 7:27 pm So since she did come back from D1 with her stern eye and such (giving a useless off wagon vote to colin, if you remember) to deliver the “I think Colin is town and I only did that to exaggerate a read and get a rise out of him”, how can you even call it “nice”.

People posting doesn't automatically guarantee good people win. It doesn't. What it does- and I've said this before- is burn good people out to the point that they don't want to bother.
JJJ knows this. You don't have to post a hundred times to get things going.

I'm not doing it. If it's on me every game, then we're going to lose and it will be a mafia cakewalk.
He says he's not doing it, and it's on him every game. Yet here he is, doing "it."
Normally, if someone would have this exchange, JJJ would ask for a "read." He didn't supply one himself.

I'm not in your brain. I don't know the parallels you perceive. Without them, I have nothing to say.
I'm just going to explain to y'all why I am a civilian in clear terms, and if people refuse to listen then that's their fault.
- Emphasized the importance of PoE
- Interactive analyses of every player with your teammate (in general you do a lot of interactive analyses anyway, but nonetheless it felt parallel here)
- The fucking stupid "reasons why each player can be a civilian" exercise and the rundown of how you felt doing it for each person
- Urging people repeatedly to put in more effort to solve and win the game
- Similar situation at endgame with tense decision-weighing and you placing tentative votes while encouraging continuous discussion/defenses from those who needed to convince you they were civilian
- Suspecting someone for voicing a strong civilian read of you

Re: Easter Mafia [DAY 6]
Why I am a civilian:
Choutas hails from RYM, the same place I came from originally. He hasn't played much Mafia in recent memory after RYM:OT's demise. This is only his third game or so on The Syndicate, and to my knowledge it's his first time aligned with a mafia faction. This is his opportunity to show what he can do, to make a mark, and to impress.
He and I go way back. So how do I treat him in this opportunity of his?
I sure as hell don't bus him out of nowhere, with numerous other names in discussion as candidates (some of whom i.e. Elohcin I actively resisted in favor of Choutas). I brought him into the dialogue. I provided the meat of the case against him. I motivated the bandwagon. I turned away the other candidates.
I didn't do that for fucking town credit. That's so lame. If I had been a mafioso with Choutas AND Colin in this game, both old RYM mates, I would have loved the chance to dig deep with them and show what we can do. I don't throw Choutas in the damned dumpster right away. Nobody can tell me he asked for it either, because he has been watching this thing ever since he died. Even now five cycles later he has voted in the dead option to monitor events. He's been available to play, and absolutely did not deny him that privilege. It would have been shitty, boring, and strategically foolish. No.
At this point in the game, MP was hounding me with considerable suspicion, and I wasn't available often enough to contend with it as much as I would have liked. Given that, and given that his suspicion did catch on at least with some players, I thought there was a reasonable chance I'd be lynched. That possibility really bothered me, but not merely because I would be a mislynch. Rather, it was the specific circumstances which spelled serious long-term problems for the civilian faction.
I am a loud and effortful contributor. I'm gone.
The primary voice driving that lynch is another loud and effortful contributor. I had a feeling that if I got lynched, my civilian flip would have really bad ramifications -- MP would immediately lose his confidence, become rattled, and settle back into a less active game state as a result. That'd amount to the two most dedicated solvers both being removed from the equation, at least in part, in one move. That can lose the game by itself.
So I tried to intervene, not just to "defend myself", but to resist that eventuality. I wanted to take the opportunity to give MP the proper infusion of motivation, something he could return to after my destruction to help him maintain course. If I had been lynched, the civilians would have needed him more than ever at his best. I wanted him at his best.

I'm not going to tell you that this post on its own power makes me a civilian. There's a lot of WIFOM in that and I won't ask you to contend with that. Instead, I am just going to explain to you exactly where my head was at when I made it and allow you to judge for yourself.JaggedJimmyJay wrote: ↑Sat May 26, 2018 7:54 pm I hate bussing my teammates and have never done it on Day 1 in my Mafia career. It “can” work, but on balance it’s a net negative. I don’t engage in foolery and tricks when there is no need. I lynch civilians and I win.
I cannot hunt without an opportunity to comb ISOs and discuss topics live. Ideally I’ll have my chance later, but if I do end up lynched I have a fucking demand.
If you’re a civilian and you lynched me, especially if your name is M Plus 7, you will follow these instructions:
1. You will not wallow in misery and frustration.
2. You will not lament your mistake.
3. You will not allow yourself to give anything away to the mafia team.
4. You will transform your bad feelings about murdering me into increased intensity and will to win.
5. You will hunt without mercy, and without regard for having been wrong about me.
6. You will lynch those who give you no inspiration.
7. You will not lynch those who do unless you have truly uncovered a sound and plausible case.
8. You will do this in my memory, for you will have ripped my control over ending my losing streak from my grasp and shouldered it yourself.
9. You will not let me down.

If I don't make this post, I think Marmot gets lynched. He had a 5-0 tally lead. If I am mafia and I know Colin is the bullshitter, I love that. There is no way in hell that I turn this around if I don't have to. This is a specific-ass observation that probably doesn't exist in anyone else's post histories if I don't put it here. It's not some mastermind bus technique. It's stupidity.JaggedJimmyJay wrote: ↑Wed May 30, 2018 9:12 pmIf you're Keith Shover, you had one confirmed.ColinIsCool wrote: ↑Wed May 30, 2018 1:02 pmI am not a “cart-before-horse” style player so I don’t hunt for teammates until I have one confirmed. I don’t think Marmot is being truthful, but my bad feeling about lap persists (especially because the night and day difference I saw was actually a game where she was civ.)![]()

Re: Easter Mafia [DAY 6]
POE wins games for civilians. See: Fiddler and Vocaroo 2 for the most obvious recent examples.
I did that in Phenon to match my meta.
If I am playing in a Mafia game and a dead mafioso exists, then these interactive analyses exist. That is my most beloved strategy.
You need to look at my civilian games too, clearly. This shit happens in every game.
Yep. In that game, my effort to facilitate content was limited purely to that. It usually doesn't work, and I was happy to let it not work.
In this game and generally any civilian game, I facilitate content with every possible method I can think of to include such encouragement (but also with the more concrete methods associated with similar players like Sloonei and MP). That's how I have facilitated this game. I didn't do that shit in Phenon, and the thread was a cadaver.
One must either solve the game or pretend to try. In this scenario, the basic approach is going to be similar for both sides. One pokes, prods, and analyzes. One asks for defenses. One defends. Etc. The content means little, the sincerity means everything.
I just got my ass buddied to oblivion in Ass Class. I'm not letting that shit fly this time.

Re: Easter Mafia [DAY 3]
There's also the part where Colin knew I was a civilian. This isn't defense of a teammate. It's a desire to avoid an errant bandwagon on JaggedJimmyJay and land on the right side of history. If I get lynched and flip civilian, everyone involved looks like shit. He didn't want to look like shit.ColinIsCool wrote: ↑Sat May 26, 2018 8:36 pm I don’t know about Jay you guys. You insist that I am not going to have your vote. Here now I have two other players with a side of Scotty diving into my stuff and telling me how bad it is -- your intervention in this has been close to nil. Why?

I've been playing in a different game and done other stuff. Not actively engaged in this mess right now. Haven't read the points against you yet either.
