Re: Anniversary Game 1 - Classic Syndicate [Day 1]
For players not familiar with the old school style of play, allow me to offer some guidance on thread posting whether you are playing or you are not playing.
If you are a non-player, as in you did not sign up and are not playing this game, please use non-player blue if you post in the thread. When you are posting, use the full editor and you will see a rectangular navy blue button with white lettering that reads "np" and in this case, np stands for non-player. If you click this button, it will add in the appropriate tags for the non-player blue color.
If you are a player now, but you die in the future phases of this game and you wish to post, please use the dead red color when you do so. When you are posting, use the full editor and you will see a rectangular navy blue button with white lettering that reads "dead" and in this case dead stands for dead red. If you click this button, it will add in the appropriate tags for the dead red color.
If you are an active player who is posting something that is not relevant to the game (for example, Elohcin asked fingersplints a question about her children), please use off topic green. When you are posting, use the full editor and you will see a rectangular navy blue button that reads, "OT" and in this case OT stands for off topic. If you click this button, it will add in the appropriate tags for the off topic green color.
Please stick to the appropriate color when posting to avoid any confusion for the players. And as always, make sure any posts you make are not game relevant. Thanks folks!

I see Elo is leading now
I’m rarely right on my D1 reads, so to have others backing me up makes my mind tingles crinkle. Time to see what others are seeing too

It’s akin to the “coffee tell”, albeit infallible and full of holes. I don’t know the real reasoning behind the ‘tell’, but I believe the idea is that quoting someone else in your first post is a less organic entrance than if you were a town. I’ve been caught by others as mafia, which I thought was bullsuit being ‘caught’ with a *nothing* reason at the time. Now, sometimes I’ll do it as town just to see who bites.
Is bea the type to fall into the trap? I was mostly kidding, but then…what if i snagged the rat AND the cheese?
(I think bea looks fine now btw)

I think this vote looks like more of a joke than anything else. I’ve seen more substance in a jiffy lube jingleQuin wrote: ↑Tue Oct 25, 2022 3:37 amI like Axe for this. The read itself is mixed up in a bunch of fluff (on Page 2 even, fluff city), but there's substance that most people skimming the thread would have looked over the first time. It's a no nonsense vote and it's super early in the game.

Re: Anniversary Game 1 - Classic Syndicate [Night 0]
The reason i went to bed yesterday with my vote still on Elo wasn’t even really the retraction after the sig interaction. Her response and what I believe to be disingenuous way to describe my play so far, as well as the blatant OMGUS kept it there.Quin wrote: ↑Tue Oct 25, 2022 4:15 amEloh's first post has an excuse in it.
All the initial post told me is that Eloh didn't read the roles thoroughly before posting. What does Eloh having not reading the roles thoroughly tell you about her alignment? Hopefully this is a rhetorical question.Scotty wrote: ↑Mon Oct 24, 2022 9:26 ammethinks the baker might be baking up some sugar-free excuses hereDharmaHelper wrote: ↑Mon Oct 24, 2022 8:55 amElohcin wrote: ↑Mon Oct 24, 2022 8:49 amI will HAPPILY use an adverb, but it may take me a while to get used to the vote tag thing. So, rule number 5 says the "votes are changeable. MAYBE." Then, I did read the roles including Moveable Votes, but didn't understand it. I was looking at it like a RULE and not a ROLE, probably b/c I had been in the car all day traveling. But I just had a lightbulb moment looking back at it now after a good night's sleep! So, I definitely get it now.DharmaHelper wrote: ↑Mon Oct 24, 2022 5:48 amYeah if only there were a role that explicitly stated (hey look guys, adverb. I'm multitasking!) that votes were changeable.Elohcin wrote: ↑Sun Oct 23, 2022 10:21 pmI would say it is something to consider.
I'm not a fan of changing votes. I like to take the day to interact and observe without being hasty.
Sig says votes are changeable. I don't see how he could have known this before voting. I can only find him sus right away as his hasty vote would most likely land on a civ.
Maybe Eloh missed that part, though. I guess if it were an indie role or a mafia role, and Eloh were a civ and had no reason to read up on the mafia/indie sides of things, that could be it.
But if that role were not an indie or mafia role, and Eloh were a mafia or an indie and would have reason to be more focused on that side of the board, I could see a world where Eloh might forgo reading up on the civ side of things.
I no longer suspect sig atm. We shall see what's to come.![]()

I suppose I can take solace in the fact that rezz’s are in the game. But for day 1? It just feelsbadman.jpg
I guess we could always all just vote for dog lol
I remember catching a scum Dana years ago on her first game back in ages (my first game with her, she was great). She used her time away as a crutch to excuse her inability to contribute and it just felt like she couldn't integrate herself into the thread. It could be the same thing here, but I'm happy to sit on it and let that idea progress.Elohcin wrote: ↑Mon Oct 24, 2022 9:29 am Y'all should know to give me a little leeway before suspecting me, especially when I've been away for so many years. Did you forget that I only married into intelligence? Though I overthink and internalize everything IRL, I'm ultimately a doer and not a thinker. That is why Epi and I mesh so well together.
I get a stronger Scotty/Eloh team vibe reading Scotty's posts than the other way around. This makes me want to do a fluff count on Scotty's posts.Elohcin wrote: ↑Mon Oct 24, 2022 12:52 pmFirst of all, I don't remember using "so many words." Second, there was not much to go on at the time of that post. I will most likely have more reads as the day goes on. But for DAY ONE, unless someone majorly slips, any reads are kind-of a shot in the dark. If I were to make a guess, though, I imagine that day 1 mafia players act like one of the following:Scotty wrote: ↑Mon Oct 24, 2022 11:59 amThat’s fair. I often overanalyze roles in my pregame analysis and make bold assumptions that can be easily disproven with the obvious information given.
I think another part of your explanation that is still not swaying me, however, is the way you’ve presented your suspicion for sig in so many words, then just as succinctly dropped your suspicion for him without offering any other reads for other players. It’s very cookie-cutter apple pie and although it doesn’t lack logical progression, it does seem to lack that extra scoop of ice cream a-la-mode
a) pretty quiet (laying low)
b) kind-of silly/off-topic (distracting from gameplay), or
c) hard core readers (they obviously know who isn't a part of their own)
This is what I am looking for. So far I have my eye on Scotty for reasons of letter (b).
Eloh thinks that her not reading the roles is NAI and Scotty should back off. She also thinks Scotty is bad for backing off. I want to come up with a cool metaphor like Scotty does but I can't so I'm just going to say this sounds like distancing.Elohcin wrote: ↑Mon Oct 24, 2022 7:50 pmI actually felt like your response was you "edging off me", so I'm confused by the question. It's like you thought, "Shoot, I really could be wrong here so I'm going to back off and say that my theory wasn't a slam dunk," after driving it hard for so many posts. You backing off is what made me question your civ status further. You may say I did the same thing with sig (flippity-flop), but really it wouldn't be true. I made a couple comments, in a tired state, about sig being sus right before going to bed. Then, when I woke up and saw comments about it, I reread the rules and roles, had a derp moment, and backed off. I really think you just need to let that go and let us move on.Scotty wrote: ↑Mon Oct 24, 2022 7:12 pm“@Golden I never voted sig at all, btw. just talked about him in the thread. I don't like movable votes at all and I think Llama explained my thoughts on it very well, so I won't repeat.”Spoiler: show
Right, you said you weren’t one to vote early, but wholly offered that sig could be bad. That was your only read at the time. Tomato/potato.
“Maybe it's not a slam dunk bc he is scared to get it wrong. Or maybe it's not a slam dunk bc he is bad and just trying to make a semblance of a baddie read on someone to make it look like he is trying. This response looks very bad to me.”
Correct that I don’t want to get it wrong. I think I tend to struggle on correct D1 reads. But a broken clock is right twice a day, eh?
If I had edged off you, would that response have looked better? I’m just continuing to get OMGUS vibes here.
@Elohcin If you could vote someone right now, who would you vote? GTH, as they’d say
I hate GTH questions and refuse to answer them.
New read, Bea is civ bc she would know when day ends if she had BTSC.
So Eloh thinks Scotty is town? Is that where we ended?Elohcin wrote: ↑Mon Oct 24, 2022 7:54 pm EBWOP: actually...if you really were scared you were wrong, then you'd have to be civ. And yes, I think even mafia can not read all the roles before posting, but I’m not even harping on that now

If someone was a mafia or an indie role and they were in a Day 1 situation and it were early enough, starting the discussion on a civvie lynch would be most unfortunate.
Also there are more than one baddie teams so its possible for a baddie to land a genuine baddie suspect, which they'd prefer over being forced to advocate for a lynch they know will flip good.

I"m not in love with this reasoning. She's always cheery tbh and what does starting off with a quote have to do with anything? Even for day one this seems to be an attempt to be funny but at the same time cast suspicion. For now, I"m "voting Scotty" but that is not a firm vote at all. I'm going to keep reading.

Re: Anniversary Game 1 - Classic Syndicate [Day 1]
I’m now caught up but want to insert some of my current reads while I eat this sandwich with my right hand and type agonizingly slowly with my left thumb:
Townreads:
-GMan
-bea
-sig
Townlean:
-Vivax
-Llama
-Michelle
-Wilgy
-NAA
-splints
-Rondo
Scumlean:
-Golden
-DH
-LoRab
-Quin
Scumread:
-Sloonei
-Elo
Post more:
-DFaraday
-Kate
GMan is my top townread. His presence in thread is enough and he offers his own reads. Primarily, however, my read is based on his initial pitch for players to post adverbs. He was the first to really push for it, and he himself brazenly used one in his first post. I think that shows towny mindset.
I’ve done a 189 on bea- her responses haven’t been defensive or hedgy. Plus if she’s fooling, she’ll be caught eventually if mafia. Probably
I’ve talked about sig, and he’s at the bottom of my townread, but still a Townread nonetheless.
My townleans are pretty similar in that nothing has pinged me as weird. They have a good presence in the thread and tone (because what else do we have on D1), and are at least putting themselves out there. I can go into more detail later I guess if anyone wants.
Vivax is almost a Townread because I think he’s held his own making reads on people he doesn’t know and is making some (I think) baldly wrong reads but messy is good. I’ve never played with him, so I’m cautiously guarded, but like his input so far.
My scumleans are more varied.
Golden is one step below Townlean. I haven’t agreed with most of his reads this game, which is actually not a bad thing, and his presence is contributory as opposed to inhibitive or even tunneling on one player. It’s pretty measured, and that is the reason I scumlean him. I can’t see the difference between mafia Golden and town mafia at the moment. I think his current play could fit either.
There’s something between Quin and DH. Whether or not it’s W/W or W/T is to be seen. I have this hunch that they’re not both town. Quin leading with this distancing case between me and Elo is pure flabbergastery- cart before the horse and all that. I do think he was right on the money with his comment regarding DH’s posting, however, by calling it a False Hydra. Sometimes I see DH’s through-line and other times I think he’s just poking a slug with a long, dull stick. His incorrect assumption that there were two mafia teams seems like a complete towntell but that is easily faked. I think of DH as someone that would be intimately involved with the role madness aspect of this game, and that’s a hard one to believe. But it does give me slight pause. I’m not sure I would immediately call either wolf yet, but I wouldn’t be against voting one of them today. Would prefer Quin of the two at the moment.
Lorab did indeed pop in, as Vivax pointed out, just to call attention to my joke post. That…sure is something. She needs to offer more than that.
My scumreads are currently Elo and Sloonei. I’ve talked about Elo, so let me get into sloonei.
Sloonei seems a bit guarded, or at least merely cordial, if that makes sense. His reads haven’t been lacking, but they’re just a bit bland. It’s like the doorman to a fancy hotel holding the door for me, asking how my day has been. I tersely answer “fine,” and then he asks if I watched the Yankees lose the other day; I laugh something non-committal about not being into sports (when in reality I’m all about baseball) as I try fruitlessly to edge towards the elevator. That’s what it is, it feels like small talk. It just feels to me that he’s just sort of…here.
Townreads:
-GMan
-bea
-sig
Townlean:
-Vivax
-Llama
-Michelle
-Wilgy
-NAA
-splints
-Rondo
Scumlean:
-Golden
-DH
-LoRab
-Quin
Scumread:
-Sloonei
-Elo
Post more:
-DFaraday
Probably

Re: Anniversary Game 1 - Classic Syndicate [Day 1]
I'm here and I'm reading, I have a bad cold...I'm typically not a quiet player at all, but I spent most of my day yesterday sleeping.
My gut is telling me to stick with Scotty for now. As I said earlier I feel like he threw the bea vote in there to maybe get a train going masked as a joke, but then backed up and jumped on the Elo train hard. So hard, she's now listed as "scum read." There is also a post where I feel like he may be distancing from her, maybe he knows she's civ, or maybe he knows she is bad. That's enough for a day 1 vote for me.

I think healthy suspicion is healthy, but just want to amend your narrative- I was the conductor of the Elo train- I didn’t jump on.
What is with this distancing idea Quin and now you have?
Does that mean you also think Elo is suspicious?

Hello new Friend!
It could just as easily be that you KNOW she is not bad, and are therefore backing off. Like I said, day one - don't have much of a read on Elo but her comment about marrying into intelligence did make me lol

I don’t care about looking bad. Bad PR is still good PR. Means the thread is moving.
Note that I haven’t moved my vote yet.

Quick question: did you read the whole thread and decide to just settle on me? This just feels like a lazy tunnel because it’s convenient based on a couple pages of back reading. And if it IS that, no judgment. But I’m getting the impression you did more than that

Well IMO convenient would be hopping on her and jumping on Elo. I have read and posted what I feel is my best impression of what is going on.Scotty wrote: ↑Tue Oct 25, 2022 1:06 pmSorry about the cold. It’s definitely that season. I will say, however, that I've never played with you before so have no idea of your style and that I like that you confronted me and didn't just blow me off in a one line post as someone who had not posted too much and then hoped I'd go away again lol

Re: Anniversary Game 1 - Classic Syndicate [Day 1]
I wasn't leading a charge. I was noticing a weirdness. But ok.
Obviously, I didn't read it as a joke post--to be fair, I was reading the entire day's worth of posts, so I likely missed tone. And I will offer more--as I said in the sign ups, I was away for a long weekend, so didn't have much time to get into the game. And yesterday was traveling back home yesterday. As I'm sure you remember, you'll get plenty more from me.
I'm going to assume that you are a civ, and that you are reading me as bad because you are not. But, keeping in mind that it could be a switcheroo.

I’m not lambasting you for not offering more, i just found it odd that your one contribution was about something that I thought was fairly obviously a joke post. If you really didn’t think I was joking, I apologize- I got nothin’ for you, head back to camp.LoRab wrote: ↑Tue Oct 25, 2022 1:33 pmI wasn't leading a charge. I was noticing a weirdness. But ok.

CURRENT VOTE TOTAL as of 6 hours until end of day:
for all you old timers, syndicate’s voting system was broken a few years back and you’ll have to painstakingly look through votes if you want to find the correct order of when someone voted someone. My ordering was not necessarily the correct order.
