I work in financial services both parttime and as a freelancer. And at the side I'm a writer.juliets wrote: ↑Sat Mar 03, 2018 12:11 pm Hi Iron_Dwarf, I don't know you at all so my questions are pretty simplistic -

What do you do for a living?
Instead of just listing your favorite movie please your top 5.
What movie that was popular or critically acclaimed did you think was lame?
Are you a better mafia or civilian? Why?
What are your interests outside mafia and movies?
Whats the best thing about being Dutch?
And welcome to the syndicate!
I can go on and on about favorite film lists, here is my top 50 which I compile at the end of each year:
https://rateyourmusic.com/list/Iron_Dwa ... mber-2017/
But for your convenience, the top 5 is:
1. A Woman Under the Influence
2. Eyes Wide Shut
3. Sunrise, A Song of Two Humans
4. Tokyo Story
5. City Lights
Quite a few, but the most recent one is Call Me By Your Name.
Not sure, but I think mafia, because people never really know how to read me. On the other hand, this means I often get read as scum.
Music (I'm from the site rateyourmusic after all), philosophy and Dungeons & Dragons.
The one thing I really like about the Dutch is our directness.

I watched football quite fanatically until two years ago. My favorite team is Feyenoord, based in Rotterdam.
I also watched e-sports for quite some time, the game Hearthstone. Even played in a team for a short while myself. Was a huge fan of Firebat.

You never read my RYM profile then, where it's linked. I just always wanted to make a film and participated in some project where I made a film with 5 others in 3 months using feedback of professional film makers. I was the production designer there and our film even screened on a few festivals. After I tried to write/direct myself and this was the result. It's obviously very low budget although I did spend a lot on special effects/make-up.dunya wrote: ↑Mon Mar 05, 2018 12:28 pmok, I have a billion follow up questions to these:Iron_Dwarf wrote: ↑Fri Mar 02, 2018 3:51 am Because you mentioned my love for film, I'll just say that I wrote and directed a short film once which I produced myself, so I can at least say I made a movie.

first; WHAT!????? what kind of film? is there any way we can see it? what's the story? what motivated you to do that? who was your inspiration? how long ago was this?
second question: @Kylemii, the guy said he doesn't want pets. I think your job here is to convince him that he does. cos everyone wants a pet but you just may not know it yet

I love that you say the best thing about being Dutch is they are direct. Does this often translate as coldness or maybe even being interpreted as rude between each other? or foreigners? Swedes are known to be cold but it's mainly cos most of them, believe it or not, are actually shy. also unfriendly but whatever.

We can be funny, although Dutch humor is very blunt. We're also outgoing. Have you seen us during international football matches? Us taking over the local campings during Euro/Worlds makes me laugh and feel a little bit embarrassed at the same time.dunya wrote: ↑Mon Mar 05, 2018 3:05 pmI don't know many Dutch people (there's a Dutch couple who live here but they really like to keep to themselves). As for directness, we still have the usual polite facade going on in social circles. But between friends or in business meetings nothing can be sacred and we don't feel offended when that is the case.

I'm a romantic, so I'll believe what I want to believe. Believing in determinism is so bleak and lacks actual drive towards living and being. I refuse the concept. I am responsible for my own behavior, you are responsible for yours. Do external forces affect/influence the choices we make? Sure. But we make them.JaggedJimmyJay wrote: ↑Tue Mar 06, 2018 12:03 pmFree will is as unproven as determinism is.dunya wrote: ↑Tue Mar 06, 2018 5:42 amhell yea. tagging @JaggedJimmyJay at the mention of determinism and whoever disagrees with the theory of it, because it's totally wrong imo tbh.Iron_Dwarf wrote: ↑Tue Mar 06, 2018 5:19 amI'm more into economics and political philosophy, but I see full determinism as an unproven dogma and do believe we have a bit of free will.

Danes? You mean Dutch? We have English in high school and iirc even in primary school, at least I had. We also have French and German for 1 or 2 years, and it becomes an optional subject afterward. So generally we do speak good English.dunya wrote: ↑Tue Mar 06, 2018 5:41 amBlunt. I chose French and German in high school and even had a French course for credits during university. Unfortunately the occasions to speak those languages are rare. When forced to speak it, my French is quite well despite having a weak vocabulary at the moment. I can read and understand German perfectly, but it's tough to speak nowadays (vocabulary is the problem again). During high school I could do a little bit of Italian even and I had ancient Greek and Latin.
Autumn.
Cool.

We are quite business-like with each other. In my experience it's hard to make new friends after university, you really need to join some social clubs (e.g. sports association) otherwise people do keep distance.dunya wrote: ↑Tue Mar 06, 2018 5:43 amwhat about other Dutch strangers? Re: rundontwalk - Interrogation Room
Thanks for the interesting week, Iron_Dwarf. We're so happy to have you here! Be sure to check out the movie and music sections too if you're interested. We have some really avid movie watchers who write extremely pretentious reviews and think they're cooler than everyone else. Would be nice if you bring them down a notch or ten.
For the next interrogation, I'd like to welcome rundontwalk, one of RYMafia's founding members and practically royalty. He invented a special kind of mafia style, that confuses the hell out of people, but made him one of the best of the best. Playing mafia can be stressful and annoying, but I always know as long as I have rundontwalk in the player list, we're in for a good time!
Texan native, rundontwalk is studying law and building his fandom to become your next American President (well, not next, but in the future for sure). Would I vote for him? Hell yes.
rundontwalk, to get things started: why law?
Who did you vote for in the last election?
Does your gf think you're more adorable or do you think she's more adorable? Cos I can't get over how adorable you both are. Like holy hell. Adorable overload.
Hey RYMers, get in on this questioning. Now's your chance!

Awwww thanks for your kind words <3
1. Because I've always been interested in politics and policy. Most of my heroes went to law school, lol. I wanna be a public defender which in America are people appointed by the court to defend poor people who can't afford a defense.
2. I didn't vote :o. I regret that. I just assumed Texas would go the way it did and didn't bother.
3. Hehehe. I think she's more adorable. She's great. We're leaving tomorrow to her home town and I'm meeting all her family, though I've met her parents before.

What do you think of Aceyalone's song All Balls Dont Bounce?
If you wanted to convert someone to country music, what's the first song you'd recommend they listen to?

Re: rundontwalk - Interrogation Room
1. I think it's too soon to tell re: Obama. But I think he was alright in some areas (esp. Environmental stuff, equal rights), though I wish he had been bolder. And I wasn't a fan of his foreign policy. I'm not sure we'll ever have any great presidents again.
2. Lincoln, John Muir, Shane MacGowan (:p), some of the great explorers like Ibn Battuta
3. I liked it! "Some balls roll, some balls hang" in the same song as a reference to Ross Perot. What's not to like?
4. My Favorite Picture of You - Guy Clark, off the top of my head.
PS: I will vote in November I promise.
