To be honest, I don't ever put it on the holder. If I had my way, it would just be on the countertop all the time. If someone else puts it on the holder, I slightly prefer it to be under because it just seems classy, like Myrna Loy.
Hedgeowl wrote:Favorite dessert?
Anything lemon. My all-time fave dessert is a limoncello, which is named after the liquer. It's basically a lemon tiramisu, with all the fluffy semifreddo layers. Once I made a spumoni-flavored tiramisu (where each layer was a different of the three flavors) and while it was good, the limoncello-asu took the, um, cake.
Hedgeowl wrote:Where were you born?
I was born in Tallahassee to seniors at Florida State University. They graduated the month after I was born and moved back to Crestview (in the Panhandle, which is why I have a tiny bit of an accent) and I lived there until I moved away to college in 2000.

No, I don't have a scar from that. It's from the Star Wars drinking game.

LOL, I am so intrigued about your most recent responses to llama. Care to elaborate there?

Why is Parks & Rec your favorite TV show? (I've considered starting to watch it, eventually)

What are some of your favorite moments with James?

You definitely should. It's my favorite as well. Mongoose is just like Leslie Knope and I am just like Ron Swanson (only not as manly).

holy crap these are some good questions.
MovingPictures07 wrote:Yay, asking questions! LOL, I am so intrigued about your most recent responses to llama. Care to elaborate there?
When I was in college, I had friends that had a descented skunk named Flower. It was as mean as the dickens. It bit me so hard that I have a scar on the place where my thumb meets my wrist. They eventually gave it to a skunk sanctuary and I was glad because I hated it. Which is something, since I am pretty much a Wackier Snow White.

Logan had a similar situation where he was getting friendly with some squirrels but they became hostile and attacked him and he bled. I'm sure he will tell you all about it with very little coaxing.
MovingPictures07 wrote:Why is Parks & Rec your favorite TV show? (I've considered starting to watch it, eventually)
I don't laugh out loud easily and this show makes it easy to every week. It has been consistently funny and the characters are all so 3D and likable. Sometimes when we are watching P&R, we will rewind a scene or a line 3x! Plus I am Leslie Knope (with a shred of Anne's sensibility thrown in though) and Logan is pretty much Ron Swanson and that parallel makes me happy. (I asked James if he likes calzones so he can be Ben, but he is not sure if he has ever had one).

Other shows I've loved and have watched over and over include Roseanne, Miranda, and Get Smart. Generally, I love a strong female lead.
MovingPictures07 wrote:What are some of your favorite moments with James?
Once, when I was visiting him in Christmas, he surprised me with a trip to Italy (Venice and Rome). He took me to Il Fenice (The Phoenix), this famed opera hall that keeps burning down and they keep rebuilding (self-fulfilling prophecy of name?). Anyway, we took overnight trains both to and from Italy, and that was a fun adventure. I am not usually a fun person that likes those kinds of adventures (ahem: opera) but it was a super neat experience. I ate my face off.

We also used to publish a zine called Potluck (aaack I wish I had given you one when you were here) and I really enjoyed that. It was just a mishmash of whatever we wanted, hence the title. The cover always had an animal sitting in a flower pot. There are zine shows and distros here, so we might pick it up.

Every year, we attend Sarasota Film Festival, and that's always amazing. One year James LITERALLY nearly tripped over Geena Davis. The next year we partied with THE Patti Smith. Last year I sat by Keith David and his daughter at Tampa Theatre when he was honored as performer of the year. He smelled of jasmine.

We arranged to do Story Corps, so hopefully that will be one too!
MovingPictures07 wrote:If you had another cat to accompany Pipecleaner, what would you name it?
For cats, I like the following names:

* Pothole
* Corndog
* Roger Ebert
* Pestle (as in mortar and)
* Thistle

For dogs, I like the following names:

* Cassavetes (after famed and late great director of dialogue-driven films)
* Elia Kazan
* Runner Bean
* Mardy Bum

linki w/ Logan - precisely.

A lot of my lineage is Native American. Creek on both sides and Cherokee on my maternal grandfather's side. He's half. So I guess we were always here.

Some of my Irish ancestors came over from Ireland in the last 100 years because they got disbanded(?) from the church from playing fiddle there.

But me? I slipped onto a Green Peace vessel back when it toured the Seven Seas and have been here ever since. I now reside in the Animal Sanctuary Squad with my hirsute pals.

Actually I got hissy when he suggested he knew everything about me and I sat here for 10 mins trying to think of something he didn't know, to no avail. He might not know my favorite Harry Potter is Book 3. Or that I once went to a Carl Hiaasen signing.
Spacedaisy wrote:What is your biggest fear?
Probably birds or horses. I guess those are more phobias though. My biggest fear is probably the loss of loved ones.

Once I reviewed the seriously-maligned Gigli for the Gainesville Sun to see if it was as bad as everyone thought. It wasn't. Wasn't great either.

Categorically, I think anything by Uwe Boll, Roland Emmerich or Michael Bay is tripe (except The Rock). I like character development, dialogue, delicate yet sensible pacing and clean camerwork. Is that so much to ask?

The only movie I've ever walked out of the theatre for was Anger Management. I could not even. I've liked Adam Sandler is precisely one film. And that is the great auteur Paul Thomas Anderson's modern marvel Punch Drunk Love. His use of color in that film is iconic. Also: pudding.

The Thin Man ALWAYS.

Sometimes I break it down classic v. modern.

In that case:

Classic: The Thin Man

Modern: Little Miss Sunshine

Dr. Strangelove comes in as my 3rd favorite film.

The Thin Man ALWAYS.

Sometimes I break it down classic v. modern.

In that case:

Classic: The Thin Man

Modern: Little Miss Sunshine

Dr. Strangelove comes in as my 3rd favorite film.
Sounds like I have a new movie to watch (well, three new movies... yes, I am mostly cinematically uncultured).

Cool. Well, if/whenever I think of more questions, I'll be back! For now, I'll let others abuse that privilege. :p

In think I have seen 6 films from your foreign list and 3 were in German.

Your favorites are some of my favorites!

My go to happy place movie though is Chocolat. I have no idea if cinematically it was good film, but I love watching it.

What is your favorite Disney movie? What is the first movie you remember watching?

Well, that is temporarily a complicated question, but has a fun answer.

In college, I worked the cinema beat for the online department of the Gainesville Sun. I also worked at WUFT-FM, the NPR affiliate for North Central Florida while at college (UF).

Then I got my law degree and practiced for a few years. The industry is the pits down here, so until I can find another legal or quasi-legal position, I'm at a public/college library doing all kinds of random things.

IM APPLYING TO BE THE FILM COMMISSIONER FOR PINELLAS COUNTY SO PLEASE CROSS YOUR FINGERS, EVERYONE. You need a journalism degree, law degree, and extensive movie knowledge so I think I might actually be a competitive candidate!

I liked it too! Things don't always have to be cinematically awesome to be enjoyable. I don't like pretension, so you won't get flack from me!

My favorite Disney movie is Fantasia. I am also partial to The Little Mermaid (which I can sing for you if you ever want that) and Lady & the Tramp.

The first movie I ever remember watching was The Wizard of Oz. When I was 3. And so began a lifelong love affair with Judy Garland.

Oooh hmm. I find it hard to eat anything while reading a book, honestly. I like to have a cup of hot or glass of iced tea nearby though.

I probably most like a big fresh salad during films. I often finish my food during the trailers - I don't like to eat during a film that's going to make me nervous, anxious, etc.

Oh I guess I should state that I didn't arrive here from another site. This is my home site.

I just appeared here from the ether one day. I anticipate I'll just drift back into it one day, leaving just as mysteriously as I arrived.

First of all, I'd like to say that I love the getting to know you thread.

Mongoose, how many siblings do you have, if any? And what was it like growing up in Tallahassee?

Simon would like to know what your favorite restaurant is.

I always wanted to be the attorney that made Exxon pay for the Exxon-Valdez spill. Unlike BP with the New Horizon, they still haven't paid one nickel 25 years later, even though it was awarded years ago. They now have punitive damages that have arisen from Exxon's extreme lack of timely payment. Anyway, it was gross conduct by a company and it's what made me want to be an attorney.
I would also like to write books from my villa in France.
Heck, I'd settle for being the Film Commissioner for my current county.

Gloria Steinem, Terry Gross, Rachel Maddow

Probably Terry Gross. She'd be interviewing somebody good! Part of me wants to say Duchess Kate, but I don't think I could stand the intrusion into my private life for even one day.

My siblings and I are all 7 years apart. We are all halfsies through my mom. I am the oldest and my brother is 24. Last but not least my sister is 17. I grew up with my dad and they grew up with our maternal/maternal/material great-grandmother. My brother and I spend a lot of time looking out for my sister! He moved back to our hometown last year so he can keep an even better eye on her now.
Elohcin wrote:And what was it like growing up in Tallahassee?
I actually only lived in Tallahassee for about a month while my dad finished up college, and then he took me back to his hometown of Crestview. Crestview is weird because it's this juxtaposition of the agricultural part of the north of the county mingling with the fancy-schmancy part of the south county (Destin, et al.) Eglin is in that county so we had a lot of military families who had lived in really cool places. Sometimes we could see opera/ballet/theater if we drove to the nearest college.
Elohcin wrote:Simon would like to know what your favorite restaurant is.
Hi Simon! My favorite cuisine is Greek, and there just happens to be a Greek restaurant downstairs called Athenian Garden. I usually get a greek salad, but sometimes I get falafel, which is a sandwich filling that is kinda like meatballs but made out of chickpeas and then topped with a yogurt sauce called tzaiziki.

Ooh, thank you, I quite like you as well!
Roxy wrote:A. Who is your favorite Beatle?
People always peg me as a John type, but I'm a George girl. I've been trying to find someone whose favorite is Ringo for the last 10 years or so cannot find one. Maybe now I shall!
Roxy wrote:B. Is it only Thin Man for you or are there other William Powell movies that you enjoy?
I really love William Powell. Ziegfeld Follies/The Great Ziegfeld is prob my fave non-Thin Man film he was in, and with Myrna Loy as the equally effervescent Billy Burke! I did not care for My Man Godfrey, but I did like the Loy/Powell dynamic in Libeled Lady.
I love long-stand co-ed platonic patnerships like that. I think Doris Day and Rock Hudson is another, but not as amazing as Loy/Powell. He was a bit broken by the death of Jean Harlow, but from what I've always heard, is that he was a Real Class Act and even offered to pay/paid for her funeral.
Roxy wrote:C. What do you think of the Road to - movies?
I generally like that but haven't seen enough of them probably.
Roxy wrote:D. What is your favorite Beatles song?
This is a bit embarrassing as I really like "Twist & Shout." When I was in Liverpool for Christmas last year, they had a Beatles exhibit (separate from the museum) and I enjoyed that.
Roxy wrote:E. Ever watched any Elvis movies?
1. What is your favorite Elvis tune?
My dad's sister loves Elvis so I've seen a lot. I think Jailhouse Rock and Viva Las Vegas are rather fun, but I like Clambake best for whatever reason. I like "A Little Less Conversation" but I think my fave Elvis song is "Can't Help Falling in Love."
Roxy wrote:F. What is your favorite swear word?
Probably poop but also crap. Also "Poop on _____" and "Crap on __________" I do say the naughtier stuff too but just not as often.
Roxy wrote:G. Best concert you have seen?
I really liked Bloc Party both times I saw them. Once in May 2007 here in St Pete and then in May 2013 in Orlando. They put on a hell of a show. Kele Okereke is my English gay boyfriend. I think he's the best songwriter of my generation.
Roxy wrote:H. When Rikki cornered Nagainia in the snakes den with her egg do you think Rikki destroyed the unborn baby snake in the egg too?
I think he did. Mongooses are known for their attention to detail. He probably poached it and had some sliced tomatoes on the side. Or mmm hashbrowns.
