You should move to Washington, DC, Golden. We never have earthquakes except that one time.

Golden wrote:A quick update on all things earthquake.

I've ended up 'off work' all week, which is really code for 'working from home'. My building is safe but clearly some of its pipes ruptured, and we have no idea what the damage is or where in the building. We have what they are calling a 'staged reoccupation' from Monday.

They've just announced a building a block from my work building is going to have to be demolished. It's possible it won't be the last.

We are very lucky that this quake wasn't closer to Wellington at this size, in many ways. We are also lucky it happened at midnight on a sunday. We would likely have had fatalities in the city if it had come during the day, given the extent of damage.
Thanks for the update! Hoping for a swift return to normalcy. And good point about the timing. :scared:

Here's something to discuss. Who among us is creepy? Here's the article.

If you're not into reading the full article, here are the bullet points:
-Men are more likely to be labeled as “creepy” than women.
-Women are more likely to think sexual threats are creepy (duh).
-Acting unusually was associated with creepiness.
-Some hobbies and jobs make people creepy.
Creepy Qualities:
-Being extremely thin
-Not looking you in the eye
-Asking to take a picture of you
-Watching people before interacting with them
-Asking about details of your personal life when you don’t know them
-Displaying too much or too little emotion
-Being older
-Steering the conversation toward sex
Creepiest Jobs:
-Clown
-Taxidermist
-Sex shop owner
-Funeral director

I collect antique poison bottles and listen to industrial music that frequently features screams and other horrible noises, and I have a large library of books on the occult. Pretty sure I'm creepy.

I don't have that one, for exactly that reason, although I've wanted it for a long time.

It wasn't lost. People put things out on the sidewalk here when they don't want them anymore.

I'm guilty of not looking people in the eye much when talking to them. I am also guilty of being a people watcher. I guess that makes me a little creepy.

But seriously, how is being older a creepy factor? That's not something you can control. I think old people who try to look and dress younger than their age are a little creepy but not old people in general. Maybe they just mean being older in relation to the person being engaged?

Yeah I didn't get the thing about older people being creepy either. Maybe an older person who lives in the creepiest house in the neighborhood but not just an old person in general.

I've not been on the syndicate in what feels like forever. I am glad to hear you are safe from the earthquake, Golden. Working from home for a week or so is not bad, right? You get to see your family while you work :D.

I hope everyone is doing well. I should be getting back to playing Mafia after we are settled in our new home. We now have a scheduled closing date/time for Dec 16th @ 9am!!!

HAHAHA, yes, he is right. We will move in one day. I will have everything unpacked that same day. The only thing I MIGHT leave to the next day is putting together the bunk beds, but that's only because I need help with that and Epi will probably be too wore out to help with it. But I bet I won't even sleep until all the pictures are hanging on the walls. It's just who I am. I like order. I'll be putting the Christmas tree up too :D

You are an inspiration.

When we recently moved, it was bad enough over a week. I can't imagine having done it all in one day. But I suppose I was balancing it with studying for comps the whole time, but still, damn. There's no way.

Well, we don't have a whole lot of stuff either. I don't like clutter, so I try to keep our belongings to a minimum and quite organized. The thing with that is, we use just about everything we have on a regular basis. The things we have that we don't use (like photo albums, Christmas decorations, etc) are already stored in big plastic bins. So they will just move as is. There isn't much I can even pack until a few days before we move. So when I am not working/schooling, I feel like I am just sitting here waiting to pack.

Oh ok, that explains it. I have years of accumulated "stuff" like extra dishes, kitchen gadgets i don't use daily, etc. We unpacked for a week last time we moved.

Similarly, I'm in the process of moving right now, and I started on Tuesday (will finish Saturday).

That's amazing you guys! Good luck!

After years of trying, I've finally been able to enjoy the taste of whiskey, the past couple weeks. :D

Eloh had her very first shot two nights ago.

She wore half of it and had to change her shirt. :haha:

To my amazement, she said she liked it. :noble:

They say your taste buds change every 7 years. I first tried whiskey about 7 years ago.

I still prefer beer and (red) wine, though tbh I'm not sure which of the two that I prefer. :ponder: They're both soooo tasty.

We need a beverage mafia (oh wait, I already have a craft beer mafia). :haha:

While my dad gave me a few inquiring sips of beer when I was a kid (back then I liked the smell but not the taste), just about all of my firsts with alcohol came in college.

The first full alcoholic drink I ever consumed was a bottle of Smirnoff Triple Black.

My first experience with whiskey was at a cast party. Someone gave me a scotch glass half full of Jack Daniels. Not knowing any better, I sipped it slowly over the course of an hour. I liked the slow burn down the throat and the warm feeling in my stomach. One of my friends, who didn't know I hadn't drank much of anything before, questioned me about it. Apparently the only people he had ever known to sip whiskey slowly were alcoholics.

I haven't had any in years, but I used to love Gentleman Jack. Nice and smooth all the way down.

I dabbled with scotch for years, always kind of liking it but never loving it. Then I discovered bourbon and now I am a full-on whiskey drinker. It's great.

And G-Man, of course you're supposed to sip whiskey. It tastes too good and is too expensive to shoot.

I also dabbled with scotch for years but just because thats what my dad drank. I ultimately gave it up for the wonderful world of wine. Bourbon? Maybe in my eggnog but otherwise I have no taste for it at all.

Sometimes it will naturally come out, but it can be contained if we just remember that this is a game on a message board forum that 99.99% of the population of the Earth has never heard of before. No matter how successful anyone is, it means just about nothing.
