I have a long history with email read receipts, mostly negative. When asked to send one back to the person who sent me an email, I decline because, chances are, the sender also earmarked the email for a delivery receipt and should have gotten one.

One of my co-workers is now requesting a read receipt with every email she sends me. Not just for important tasks and questions, mind you. She is also requesting read receipts for one-sentence responses. My other co-worker has noticed this as well, so Ms. Read Receipt isn't just doing it to me.

What to do?

What to do?
Hand her a sarcastic hand-written note indicating that you read her email each time you do so.
Believe me, I considered returning the favor and spamming her with read receipts but I try to avoid petty retribution. Besides, Ms. Read Receipt is always striving for the 'good dog' pat on the head from the owners and she would probably complain about it. I don't know if it's her poor communication skills or her over-developed self-preservation instinct, but she regularly makes subtle put-down comments about me and our other co-worker when the boss men are present. She used to be the only office person years ago, so maybe she never got used to sharing the glory when things go right. Trouble is, she makes most of the mistakes, so she still gets most of the grief. Sharing is caring, right?

Anyway, she only recently started doing it, so maybe I can get her to stop it unless its an email that really matters.

Ugh. That sucks, sorry. Been there done that. My worst case of this was losing a week's worth of dissertation code updates because my flash drive corrupted and I hadn't backed it up in a week or so. That was the incident that pushed me over the edge to always saving my files in a paranoid fashion and working from the cloud.

Job interview today. Just to get my current job permanently. I'm not worried about it at all, or at least I wasn't, until yesterday my boss woke up in a cold sweat worried that the other two people she put on the panel won't appoint me. I still feel confident they will - I'm good at interviews and if I'm frank they need me. But now it's created a pressure to perform.

Golden wrote: Sat Mar 10, 2018 6:14 am For whatever reason, Agents of SHIELD scratches my Lost itch. I'm not sure it would be that way for everyone, but especially the last couple of seasons have just been so phenomenal. I think perhaps it's two things:

1) Each season feels different to me. I had that with Lost too, where I can actually imagine different colours, most important characters etc for each season, they are like 6 books in a series. I get that with SHIELD too.
2) The cast feels like a family (as the Lost cast did) dealing with the same kind of pseudo-scientific 'how the hell' stuff that the Losties did.

There's also the fact that they often like to begin seasons or parts of seasons with completely out of context scenes with characters we don't know yet - which Lost was amazing at, starting with Desmond in the hatch in season 2.

More recently, Westworld scratches the same itch as well - that did very well at recreating Lost's 'what the hell is going on' vibe.

It makes me realise that for the most part I judge everything scripted I watch against Lost.
AoS got infamous because the first half of Season 1 was subpar, so it never got quite a following. But after that it turns into a pretty great show.

I've watched the first 3 seasons. Need to catch up.
Yeah you do, because honestly, if you'd seen 4, you'd say the first 3 seasons were subpar :p

Seriously though, season 4 is one of the best seasons of anything ever in my opinion. Season 5 is also pretty damn good, although I think it isn't quite as universally considered to be as good as season 4 (I personally find it to be).
FInally watched S4.

Yeah it's... that good. I mean, the first third (the Ghost Rider part) is pretty weak (though not because of the ghost rider), but the other two thirds are really fucking amazing. Every episode feels different even though it's a well connected serial show of 22 episodes. I think it's ironic how this is so much better than most of the MCU Netflix shows, even though Daredevil S1 used to be the bar other shows compared themselves to (I might still prefer DD1 to AoS4, but it's a close one).

Fun fact, my father dropped by my side when I was watching the penultimate episode and I kept staring at him thinking "how the fuck do I explain this" while robots and simulations and teleportation and ghost rider flashed on the scream. And my father is a no-nonsense guy when it comes to entertainment. lol. Tho he didn't say anything.

Now I think I'll take a small break (tho hopefully not that long) before S5 so I can process this.

Yeah the Ghost Rider bit is the weakest part of s4 to be sure, except that it lays the table. By the end I think 5 is weaker than 4... the budget shows. But the storytelling and characterisations remain strong.

got a formal complaint against me by a client who said I was coming onto him inappropriately...lmao. so I'm "officially" under review.

This jerk asked me out for coffee earlier this week, which was totally unnecessary since we covered everything in the office, and I politely declined. I've done it several times before (refused outside interaction with clients unless it's a business dinner with co-workers and/or management present), and I didn't think much of it. Apparently, he doesn't handle "no" very well.

My former student signed with the Los Angeles Chargers.

I used to joke with him that if he ever went pro, to remember me financially. Now is the time to pony up. :shifty:

I don't have stats, but things went like this:

When he was our running back, we won a lot of games.

After he graduated, we lost a lot of games.

That’s awesome. I think the Chargers are in a position take a step forward this year so hopefully he gets a spot on the roster and can contribute to it!

Golden wrote: Thu May 31, 2018 10:45 pm Yeah the Ghost Rider bit is the weakest part of s4 to be sure, except that it lays the table. By the end I think 5 is weaker than 4... the budget shows. But the storytelling and characterisations remain strong.
Watched the first 5 episodes of S5 and I already like it more than S4. S4 was a little awkward in that it pretends there is something at stake other than just freeing the protagonists from a virtual reality, while S5 starts with a huge cataclysmic event right out of the bat and goes to town with it (and it isn't too silly like the cataclysmic event they try to prevent in S3). Villains are good, situation feels super hopeless in a way that keeps me wanting to see more, and the pacing is so great it hardly feels like I watched so few episodes.

Episode 5 was the Boba Fett origin story I thought I didn't need (with Fitz instead) and probably better than the Boba Fett film Disney is planning to make. it says a lot that this was the return of Hunter and that wasn't even the most interesting thing in the ep.

Fitz/Simmons is the best couple in television since Lily and Marshall. No, seriously, forget the Avengers, all you need to defeat Thanos is have one of them disappear and the other one will flip the universe upside down and probably build another infinity gauntlet just to bring their love back. They are that badass.

I'm really satisfied for this show.

I’m looking forward to rewatching episode 5 now that I’ve seen the end.

Kasius and Sinara are fantastic villains.

I'm taking her to a seafood restaurant. It's taken this long, but I've gotten her loving fish and tea and coffee.

Give me another fifteen years and I'll have her drinking whiskey. :srsnod:
