Grand Theft Auto III: Part 1- Portland Borough

Each night in Liberty City, two things are certain: money changes hands and lives are taken. But does it have to be that way?

The tension in Portland has reached its apex and something's got to give. Two rival organized crime syndicates are done beating around the bush with each other. The time has come for one to take out the other. Yet at the same time, a street gang on the rise has its sights on surprising both of the warring factions and overtaking Portland for its own. Finally, an army of one emerges from the shadows of Portland's past, hellbent on bringing all of Liberty City to its knees.

The populace is not ignorant to the tension, however. Two men stand to make their fortunes off of the coming bloodshed. Will they take sides? No one can say for sure. Perhaps they will attempt to play all the factions against each other and give rise to their own criminal empire, reaping the whatever spoils may be left. Those common citizens caught in the middle seek to do anything in their power to lay low and defend their livelihoods in a city teetering on madness.

-Every player in the game earns money if they make it through the day phase, though each player's earning are based on their role.
-Every night, goods and services may be purchased from a variety of Portland establishments.
-A gang can win the game if the other two gangs are eliminated, Darkel is eliminated, neither Claude nor 8-Ball decided to go to war with them, and they outnumber the "Innocent Bystanders."

Portland was the name of the first borough of Liberty City that the game takes place in. This game will be the first of three games- each one will cover one of the boroughs and turf wars from the game:
-Portland
-Staunton Island
-Shoreside Vale

As you can tell, I know nothing about this theme, except that it's (a series of) video games.

Yes, well, my senior year of college one of my roommates had a PS2 and this game. I wound up spending hours each day and night playing this game (with cheat codes of course). I printed off all kinds of data about the game- car types, characters, mission walkthroughs. I explored almost every square inch of this game and still managed to graduate.

I actually developed a full game version of GTA 3 at one point but it was huge- like 40 to 50 roles. I'm not sure if I ever posted it on Lostpedia for consideration. I always thought that GTA 3 would make for a compelling 3-season TV show. No one has given it that treatment and I'm not a Hollywood producer, so that will never happen. I broke my game up into three parts so it can be run as three speed games. The results of this first game will have an impact on the second installment. Once I get more of the role details up it'll make a little more sense.

Ahh GTA3... the game that, along with a LOT of weed and a WHOLE lot of junk food made me lose over a year of life to idling, LOL.

Incidentally, I bought GTA4 for $10 last week and am in the process of immersing myself into it (no weed or junk food these days, though, gotta keep my fighting weight!)
My siggie.

I lost time to GTA3 without any weed. Junk food- yes. I actually grew more fond of opera by playing this game, believe it or not. I usually turned the radio stations to the classical station because it made my drive-bys seem more important and awesome. Then I started checking out opera CDs from the college library to play to when I wasn't in the car.

Let me just say that Richard Wagner and GTA3 go very, VERY well together. :nicenod:

This kinda reminds me.

Red Dead Redemption was a really fun game, and I know they were done by the same company (Rock Star). I bet RDR would make for a good mafia game.

I sadly gave up on RDR. Maybe it's my messed up eyes, or something about my television, but when that game would go into night time, I felt as though I was blind; it makes sense to the setting obviously, but having to do a mission in the pitch black was just not my idea of a good time. At least when it is night time in GTA, there are streetlights!
