Randomest real names

#1

Post by Golden »

So I was reading a news story this morning and came across this:

"Auckland Rugby Referees Association referee manager Smudge McNeilage"

Smudge... Mcneilage...

A real name so ridiculous Dickens could have come up with it.

Can any of you top this with people you've come across in real life with odd names?

(Title has grammatical error just to annoy Mr Nosisberg.)

Not in person, but I was once on a message board with someone who worked in a maternity ward and got to see the proud DeFinas family christen their new daughter "Yohighness"

I also once knew a girl named Keegan Danko, and I made fun of her all the time (she deserved it). It was the inspiration for my pseudonym, Tango Malarkey.

I had a philosophy professor when I studied abroad in England named Jerry Goodenough.

He lived up to the title (in professorship :P )

I've met someone named Fonda Pusey.

But for the best weird names, you just have to look to the annual name of the year competition! (Which one year had a Fonda Dick, incidentally)

Good stuff here!

I spent a year and a half working for a student loan servicing company collecting student loan debt and helping delinquent borrowers find payment plan options. Each one of us made between 100 and 200 calls per 8-hour shift and let me tell you- we saw some weird one! Eventually I started writing down the weirdest of the weird but I tried not to keep full names- just the weirdest first names and the weirdest last names. I think I was worried that if I got caught with a list of full borrower names I would get fired or accused of stealing people's identities (we had access to a lot of data- names, addresses, phone #'s, SSN's, etc).

I still have those lists somewhere and I'll share a few if I find them. I kept telling myself I should write a two-part book series based off of those lists. The first would be all the god-awful first names and I'd call it "What Not to Name My Children." The follow-up book would focus on the most horrendous last names and it would be called "Please Don't Marry My Daughter."

My sister and I used to go through the phonebook (we were weird kids) and found two Bilbo Bagginses and a Betty Boop.

This doesn't rhyme in English, but there was a famous operator here at the national television back in the commie years called Salomeea Guinea. Also I kid you not, a few years ago there was an election race in some village between - hmm should I put it as PG-13 as possible in translation? - a Mr. Blow and a Mr. Wank. I think Mr. Wank won.

We have clients where I work named Wang Fang, and his wife, Wang Mei. Someone told me there was a Wang Fok, but I have never run across that one myself. Where I used to work we had a Fuzzy Ballsly. That was the name on his licence, although I seriously doubt it was the name on his birth certificate, lol.

Ahaha :p Baba ganoush is delicious. But did you know that it translates to "pampered papa" or "coy daddy"? (I'm serious I read this on wikipedia so it must be true)

I actually have in mind a favourite name if I'll ever have a baby girl (not that I have my hopes high or anything ), but I don't for boys, so I just joke around that I'll simply name him Jose Arcadio.

I saw a guy named Jeh on TV this morning. Sounds more like the beginning of a name, like Jerry or Jesus, after which the parents just said "eh" and quit.

Hey Rico, I know what you mean.

My wife and I have basically agreed on names for two different daughters.

But doing boys names is nearly impossible.
