Weird game to play as an indie role. I knew from the start that these missions would be a crapshoot, so my goal was to try and survive as long as possible by providing enough insights and commentary to avoid being lynched, while still intentionally pissing off enough people to avoid being NK'd. I also tried to protect my crew-members as much as possible, as I correctly figured that scum members would have no real incentives to lose the missions. It woulda been a hell of a lot cleaner and less nail-biting if Serenity wasn't the unluckiest ship in the 'verse when it came to losing members and missions. (And if DH hadn't have thrown that one mission.) I do feel like I chose the perfect time to claim indie, which is probably what netted me the win.

Now, DH's post could have been a joke that the scum decided to make real, however, DH claimed to have purchased Vera during N5, which cost the same amount of money as the grenades. Despite my +1, DH's ostensible +1, and DF's +2, we still were two short of success. If we're using tinfoil conspiracy theory methods, we could maybe guess that both DH and a scumbuddie possessed $650, and coordinated their purchases to provide each other cover.

That's a little too much for me to assume. However, for the first time in this game, I am officially slightly nervous about DH.

Vera (whatever that was) was gone before the grenades for quite some time. DH didn't buy the grenades.

If DH is bad with someone, who is it?

I dunno. Only just started considering him a suspect. The only baddie team I've been able to theorize is one consisting of TH, Nutella, and possibly DF.

That’s...not entirely inaccurate, unfortunately.

I’ve more or less ballsed this game up, IMO. I’ve had three solid scumreads, DDL, Luna, and Nova. Those three players are the only ones I’ve tried my damndest to get lynched. And two of them have been NK’d, proving them to be civilians. Quick aside: I know that this is WIFOM-central, but does it honestly make sense for me to kill two of my three scumreads if I’m bad?

That all is enough for me to take a step back and reconfigure my viewpoint. Sure, I can intellectually engage with the cases against DDL, but my own self-doubt combined with his increasingly genuine pleas to his civvieness are enough for me to not want to rush into lynching him.

Current town reads: Enrique. Yes, yes, I know. But I still genuinely don’t understand the cases against him. The dude’s read civ for me the entire damn game.

Golden. The only thing about him that’s rubbed me the wrong way, was his quirky approach to captaincy. I appreciate that he stepped down when he realized how his strategy and the controversy around it was drowning it actual scum hunting. His case against TH has been floating around in the back of my head for a while, and is just getting more and more enforced as the game progresses. I think lynching Golden at this point would be idiotic.

Speed. Guy’s been a voice-of-reason for the thread for quite a bit, even if I haven’t always agreed with his cases. Nevertheless, his interactions with Nutella just seemed baffling.

Moving onto scumreads: Nutella. She’s damn hard to read. However, she’s been making me a little nervous this game from the very start. This exploded over the course of my catch-up session. All of her conversations with Speed had me audibly going yeech. Her defenses of TH seem baseless and overdone, and her switch to Golden nigh-incoherent. She’s a baddie.

Turnip Head. Another figure that’s inspired apprehension in me for quite a bit. He caught my eye by using his signature posting style to deflect questions about the game, using it almost as a shield. His response to Golden’s case against him has been fairly feeble IMO. Then, when folks start mentioning his name, while feeling rather cool about DDL and Enrique, Nutella and DFaraday swoop the fuck in. Too clean.

DFaraday. Dude ain’t Tarzan, so his randomly swinging into the thread on a goddamn vineyard place a decisive vote feels out of place. Just bizarre behavior, and I don’t get/buy his stated motivations.

Fuck it, I’ll take a page from Mac’s book and attempt to name the baddie team: Nutella, Turnip Head, and DFaraday.

- have suspects
- listen to other opinions, and compare them with his own, possibly negatively, while still respecting their right to have a differing opinion

- go after Golden and DH for not agreeing with his suspects
- hound Golden (along with Epi) into giving up his ship
- screw over DH by running off with Serenity's money, and an item that the crew of Serenity pooled its' money in order for him to buy.
- do the above after repeatedly hounding DH for an entire phase about how he should give him more money
- do the above and then criticize captains for "playing the crew game" instead of hunting scum
- do the above and insist that "hunting scum" must align with Mac's view of the game, otherwise the captains need to GTFO
- do the above and respond to any criticism with a smug "WHAT, AM I NOT SUPPOSED TO HAVE SUSPECTS"

The real reason I made that post is that I feel like I screwed up specifically with Sokoth due to certain factors (Star Trek, him being a part of my crew) that were relevant due to the discourse of the thread. If people are going to play like this is a team game with the crews, and blanket town read their crews, they could fall into the same damn trap that I did. The Star Trek connection is a link between SQ, DH, Daisy, and I that not many people are aware of, and could influence how we interact with one another. Plus, when I miss a baddie, I like to analyze my reasons for doing so. I'd like to think it helps me from making the same mistakes again.
