Which are your teams/athletes?
I'm just curious where the allegiances lie around here. Which teams do you root hardest for across the sports and/or which individual athletes do you most closely follow?

Re: Which are your teams/athletes?
NHL- #1- Montreal Canadiens, #2- Nashville Predators, #3- Pittsburgh Penguins
AHL- #1- Hershey Bears, #2- Wilkes-Barre-Scranton Penguins
NFL- Miami Dolphins
International Soccer- Deutschland über alles
MASL- Harrisburg Heat
USL- Harrisburg City Islanders/Penn FC
MLB- No affiliation but I tend to support underdogs. If you made me pick, I'd say Tampa Bay Rays or Milwaukee Brewers.
MiLB- Harrisburg Senators & York Revolution
NBA- No affiliation but I was a dinosaur nut as a kid, so the Toronto Raptors have always had appeal
NCAAF- Notre Dame and Boise State (but only a passing interest)
NCAAB- wake me up when it's March Madness

NBA - Oklahoma City Thunder, but as a neutral observer I always like teams that are up and coming. I loved the Golden State Warriors until they stole Durant. Liking the Minnesota Timberwolves.
I'm obligated to say MLB - Red Sox and NFL - Patriots by marriage.
That's all the American sports I follow. Beyond that I just support NZ or NZers in basically everything they do, and Wellington for domestic leagues.

I don't have any teams or athletes. I'd like Toronto teams to win, because they are local.

Re: Which are your teams/athletes?
I'm all Boston. My emotional well-being is strongly connected to the success of the Red Sox. They need to win 162 games every year.
I'm a fairweather hockey and basketball fan who tunes in and roots for the Celtics and Bruins when they're doing well, but I'm not devastated if they lose or ecstatic if they win. It's just entertainment to me. I got pretty into basketball this year because the C's are a lot of fun right now.
I'm more of a Tom Brady fan than a Patriots fan at this stage. I imagine I'll retire from football when he does.
I want to be into soccer but I never find that I can devote the time to it. I watch the world cup and Olympic soccer whenever they roll around and I usually pick an underdog nation as my team at the start of the tournament. So Iceland.

Sweden is an underdog too y'know, esp after Zlatan's retirement from the national team.

Re: Which are your teams/athletes?
Despite being from Cincinnati, I never really got attached to the Reds or Bengals because I never followed sports growing up (and no one in my immediate family ever did either) -- with tennis being the sole exception. Didn't help that Cincinnati sports sucked especially during that time either I suppose. Over the last 5 years I've tried to make a concerted effort to get into sports more but I'm still very casual.
Tennis: Roger Federer
NBA: San Antonio Spurs
MLB: Cincinnati Reds (I guess?)
NCAAB: I only follow March Madness
I think that's it; I really couldn't care less about the NFL. The upcoming relocation may give me an opportunity to find a new local scene to root for, but we'll see.

M Plus 7 Cal State Fullerton is in the heart of Anaheim Ducks country but, depending on where you guys move to, you may be in Los Angeles Kings country too. I recommend you check out some NHL action because the Ducks and Kings have a heated rivalry going. There's also an AHL team in Ontario, CA and they're actually pretty good this year. I recommend checking them out as well.
Think of hockey as basketball on ice. That's helped a few converts understand the movement of the game.

Re: Which are your teams/athletes?
Thanks, G-Man, the information is definitely much appreciated! Frankly, I really haven't given hockey any chance; I think I've watched part of one game ever and that was it. I probably could get into it if it's anything like basketball, which I was only able to break the barrier of interest via the statistics and such.G-Man wrote: ↑Wed Apr 11, 2018 10:52 am @M Plus 7 Cal State Fullerton is in the heart of Anaheim Ducks country but, depending on where you guys move to, you may be in Los Angeles Kings country too. G Man is right; hockey really is basketball on ice with an added side of violence. It's fun.

Re: Which are your teams/athletes?
I’ve always said that if you just want to tune for a sports event with no knowledge of connection to the game or teams, hockey will be the most entertaining to pick up. There’s nothing complicated you need to know, and the speed and skill involved make for great theater even if you’re not typically a sports fan.
Playoff hockey season is always fun, and hey, look what time it is!

Baseball: Cincinnati Reds
Rock Climbing: Alex Honnold, Tommy Caldwell, and Lynn Hill
Running: Kílian Jornet and Scott Jurek
Any other non-traditional sports fans out there.
On that note, does tennis count as non-traditional?
