Socky Award Finalists [2015]

#1

Post by Golden »

Hi everyone

Voting for the Sockys has now closed, and it is time to announce your finalists. In order to qualify as a finalist, nominees must:
  • Be in the top five vote getters in their category (anyone tied for fifth will be included), and
Have at least two separate nominations.
Finalists will be announced today, and winners will be announced on the weekend. While voting in most categories is final, Best quote includes all nominees and is now subject to an additional vote.

Every category so far has an option I voted for, so people nominated for that option should be pleased with me, assuming they'll win, or direct their resentment at others, in case they don't. :slick:

Are we getting an Awards video, Maffies-style? Will it get more viewers than the Oscars?

Apparently no one agreed with my opinion that both Vompatti and insertnamehere deserved recognition for their brilliant, gamne-breaking performances in Eno Mafia. Of course, it probably doesn't help that most people in that game, including the two just mentioned, don't come around these parts any more (I'm still waiting to find out what happens in INH's 702 game!)

A drawback for me personally, with Monopoly and Eno being included, is that I hadn't joined back then. The earliest games I spectated were Cars and GoC '14. Of course, that can be true for some even more recent members as well, who might not have the bigger picture of all the games throughout this interval, but since I statistically stayed active throughout the entire 2015, I must sadly note I never had those two games in my memory to assess.

Truth be told, I hardly really assessed any of my choices. The more spontaneous I wrote them down for submission, the more genuine it felt that those were really the highlights for me. At least that's how I went with it.

That can only please me, thank you, old adversary. Unfortunately, I probably shot an arrow in my own knee in that category by adding up a vote to the clear winner that is TySlayer.

As for your buddying attempt, though...

The problem with INH's performance in Eno was that his plan backfired, and when he tried to nightkill someone (was it Vompatti?), the kill rebounded back to him. :p

I'm also waiting to see what happens in 702. Should we spoil ourselves?

Linki: I've probably self-voted the most in 2015, but I swear I didn't for the Sockys!

The alignment categories could have been a little more specific, but m'ok. Strong stuff, through and through, the awards should be very exciting. Unless Golden wins for every alignment category except Indy, that is.

Some people specified single games, others voted based on performance across multiple games, but those awards are for overall 2015 performance, so if one person was thinking of one game, and another person was thinking of another game, they all counted together towards one person. You can probably be assured that most nominees have been nominated based on more than just one performance, overall.

This is different from 'awards for a specific game' - eg role use, where the same person nominated for different roles didn't have their votes counted together.

I myself was specific in both scenarios. I judged Best "Civ/Mafia/Indy/nub" Performance with an emphasis on "performance" (singular), hence a player's shining moment in that certain alignment, not so much one's most consistent good results under that faction. I now understand both angles here, though.

A lot of these categories had quite a few people get one vote. Some of my nominees haven't made it, which is sad because I find them deserving. I'm still very pleased for the people who have made the various shortlists, though. Everyone is deserving.

Oh man I thought of this too late but there should be a Best New Meme award. A la "pedantic pink," "interesting" and adverbs.

What do you mean by more specific?
For which game the players were nominated. Oh... Well yeah, assuming people were specific in that regard. I sure was.
For all it's worth I nominated you for Watchmen (independent) and Golden for Economics and Guess Who (Mafia).

Same here, except for MVP, Mafia* (both of which have identical brevity and nominees, wtf) and New Member (Ty nooooo).

*Kami, I want you to know that I voted for you, but apparently people are forgetful of what textbook spotless mafia ass kicking looks like. :why:
This post was very affirming and much appreciated. But sadly one great performance does not a best mafia make. My Guess Who performance I got my ass handed to me quite quickly. My team won, but I died like Day 1 or 2. But thank you Mikami. :hugs:

Of the 15 non-quote categories I voted on, 11.5 of my votes ended up as finalists. I'm glad other people saw the same qualities I did in most categories.

I didn't vote for Micro/Classic game or New Player. I didn't play or observe any small games and I didn't feel like I had enough exposure to the folks on the new player list.

Funnily enough, I called you out in Guess Who for doing exactly the thing I sensed you did as Kami in warnup stages of Death Note. One of my best reads on someone ever. Your team then kindly replied by murdering me Night 1. :p

As I've said, I treated the alignment categories as specific, due to which, on the contrary, one performance to rule them all sounds just right in my book.

My nomination for Best Civilian is understandable if specific, but ridiculous if judged by the big picture. I'm 1-6 in games as civilian and my performances ranged from "omelette au fromage" to doing the civs a favor only for it to blow back in my face and crash my game into the ocean. Of lava.

So thus far, I received nominations from the players I burned or was antagonistic with in games. Neato.

I voted for myself in Independent, to be honest. Sad as it may sound, Ozymandias and THM as solo efforts are still the most rewarding and joybringing things in my life over the past year. Jerk-like as it may sound, I didn't have a lot of indy performances in my mind to choose from. TH as Sidoh makes perfect sense, but on the other hand, I don't even recall playing with BR, LC or Metalmarsh as indies in 2015.

My nominations for the three alignment categories were all for specific games, I thought the Overall category was for overall performances. Happy to see all but one of my votes made the cut :D

I'm happy to see a bunch of my nominations made the final cut.

I'm also really touched to see Recruitment had some votes. I'm glad it was an enjoyable game.

Don't think so, Epig's been running that quasi-gambit, apparently, for a long time. What was the "interesting" meme, again?

I'd probably simply label pedantic pink as a new form of code. Not sure how this BNMeme award would work, but I'd likely nominate either "bullsuit" or "lunching" (the Donner version of lynching) for best of 2015.

"Interesting" was another Epi thing, I think. He got all up in someone's business in Bullets Over Broadway I think about how they were describing events as "interesting" with no follow up commentary.
