Gameplay
1. Days are 48 hours long.
2. Nights are 24 hours long, but all PMs must be sent to the host within 23 hours so night posts can be written in a timely fashion.
3. Only those players who have BTSC may communicate with each other outside of the game thread but ONLY in designated BTSC threads or chat rooms. For everyone else, no game-related discussion is permitted outside the game thread.
4. Votes in the poll are the only votes that count. It's helpful but not mandatory that you declare your vote in the thread in a way that stands out to the host.
5. All votes are changeable all the way up to the deadline.
6. A tied lynch will result in no lynch. Votes matter. There will be no coin flips to determine lynch results.
7. Wincons are dead or alive unless otherwise specified in your role. The host reserves the right to deny win credit to those players who fail to pull their own weight.
8. Dead is dead; you don't get to come back from that. Dead players will have their BTSC rights removed.
9. Roles will only be revealed in lynch posts unless otherwise necessary to the mechanics of the game.
RULES
1)Respect your fellow players, your host, and your MOD.
1a) Don't be an asshat.
1b) Don't get butthurt.
2) If you feel like another player is out of line or making/taking things personal/ly, contact the MOD.
3) No BTSC regarding the game outside of the game thread(s). Players are told in their rolecard if they have BTSC. If you don't have it, don't engage in it. Violating this rule will result in a modkill.
4) No editing or deleting posts.
5) Self-voting is permitted.
6) Double-targeting is not allowed.
7) Info-dumping and/or role-claiming is forbidden.
8) Off-topic posts should be in OT Green.
9) Dead players are to post in Dead Red.
10) Non-Players should post in Non-Player Blue. We'll have a spectator chat if you're really interested in game details.
11) This is the host's color. Do not post in this color.
12) Participation is mandatory. Anyone who misses two vote AND fails to post during that time will be automatically replaced. If no replacements are available, a modkill may occur. If you sign up, please play. If you can't play, request replacement.
ROLES:
MAIN FORCE PATROL
MAX ROCKATANSKY: Member of the MFP and devoted husband. Each night he looks for his wife and son. He will gain BTSC with either of them when he finds them. If both Jessie and Sprog die while Max is still in the game, he will go mad (MAD I say!) and go rogue, killing every night and can then only win if he is the last man standing. As long as both Jessie and Sprog are alive, Max can survive the first NK attempt on him and the kill will rebound on his attacker.
FIFI MACAFEE: Chief of the MFP and trying to locate his patrolmen. Each night he calls out over the radio for his men. He can check a one player each night to see if they are part of the MFP.
JIM GOOSE: Member of the MFP and tough as hell. He can survive the first attempt on his life (lynch or NK).
SARSE: Member of the MFP and patrol partner of Scuttle. Each night he searches for Scuttle. If they find each other, they will gain BTSC.
SCUTTLE: Member of the MFP and patrol partner of Sarse. Each night he searches for Sarse. If they find each other, they will gain BTSC.
ROOP: Member of the MFP and patrol partner of Charlie. Each night he searches for Charlie. If they find each other, they will gain BTSC.
CHARLIE: Member of the MFP and patrol partner of Roop. Each night he searches for Roop. If they find each other, they will gain BTSC.
COMMISSIONER LABATOUCHE: Concerned primarily with finances, Labatouche wants to know how many patrolmen are running around spending his money. Each night he can request a status report on any MFP patrolman (role, not player). The report will tell him if that patrolman is still alive. He may has to check all MFP agents presumed alive (he doesn't have to check NK'd ones) before he can check for any a second time.
CIVILIANS
JESSIE ROCKATANSKY: Vanilla civvie. She can gain BTSC with Max if he locates her.
SPROG ROCKATANSKY: Vanilla civvie. He can gain BTSC with Max if he locates him.
BARRY, THE MFP MECHANIC: Though not a part of the MFP, he can help them. If the player he selects at night is part of the MFP, he will add a little boost to his vehicle. Successful targets receive either a negative vote or a NK protect, whichever comes in handy first but will not know they have the protection.
SILVERTONGUE: A cowardly lawyer, Silvertongue may stop one lynch during the game. If he uses it to save himself or a member of Toecutter's gang, his votes will not count for the rest of the game.
MAY SWAISEY: Don't let the sweet little old lady thing fool you. May is tough as nails and fiercely protective. Each night, she may protect any player of her choice.
STATION MASTER: Timid and feeble, the Station Master of Wee Jerusalem is terrified of Toecutter's gang. If he votes for any member of Toecutter's gang, his vote will not count.
GREASE RAT: He looks out for #1 in both business and life. If he is visited (checked/targeted) by a member of the MFP at night, he will be told about it in the morning. If multiple people target him at night, he will be given a list of all their names and he will be told if a member of the MFP is among them but won't know who. If Toecutter's Gang tries to NK the Grease Rat, all of his accumulated information will be shared with them in exchange for his life. He can win with either side.
SKAGS
TOECUTTER: Leader of the dangerous biker gang terrorizing the countryside. Every night he selects who to kill and which member of his gang will do the killing.
BUBBA ZANETTI: He is Toecutter's second in command and takes over leadership if Toecutter dies. Each night he can block one player of his choice by tampering with their vehicle.
CUNDALINI: A loyal member of Toecutter's gang and lucky too. He will survive his first brush with death (lynch or NK) but his vote will not count after that. He takes over if both Toecutter and Bubba are dead.
JOHNNY THE BOY: The newest member of Toecutter's gang. Takes over leadership if Toecutter, Bubba, and Cundalini die. Otherwise, a vanilla baddie.

I have a feeling I'm going to need all the time I have over the next few weeks (coming to the end of my last semester at uni), so I'm keen to be a replacement depending on how late I'm required.
This reminded me that I'm already signed up FMA. Shit.

I confess, I have less than zero interest in this theme but I will happily sign up to support my friend G-Man in hosting his game. Now that I think I'm getting the hang of this, I figure it might be good practice for bigger upcoming games...

Also... Please forgive me for raising this here (if it's not the appropriate place) but this is the only site where I've played where (as a rule) the identity of NKs are not revealed. Will this game be the same? Can anyone explain to me why this is the case? I've never really understood that

Re: MAD MAX [sign-ups]
The Syndicate is a strange place that follows this general game strategy. It stemmed from some previous sites, and there are a few reasons for using it.Glorfindel wrote:Also... We also have a oft-used rule of no info-dumping or role-outing. This and the no reveals of nightkills would presumably hurt the civilian cause, but this is countered by a town-team with a lot of power roles. It is very uncommon to get a vanilla role on this site (outside of heist games).
It also pushes a different strategy for civilians. You can't rely on info by itself to uncover the baddies, but must rely on your own scumhunting abilities and analysis.
Each host is allowed to create their game and employ their own rules, but many people who have hosted here lately came from a mafia culture with this mindset.
What do you think of it Glorf? Like? Dislike?

I have to admit I'm tempted, but I still can't commit to a game quite yet. Too much going on in PhD world, even with comprehensive exams over. I'll keep mulling though, and nonetheless hope this game fills soon!

Re: MAD MAX [sign-ups]
I'm not sure to be honest, my friend Thank you for explaining your perspective to me though - it certainly makes more sense looking at it that way. The one thing I kinda struggle with though is - if (as a Host) if you're not going to reveal the identity of the NKs why then, bother revealing the identity of the Day phase lynches? If you're only going to give out half the information, why bother at all? I'm not criticising this approach, simply trying to get my head around it... My apologies if I've derailed this thread too...Metalmarsh89 wrote:The Syndicate is a strange place that follows this general game strategy. Re: MAD MAX [sign-ups]
Without announcing lynches, the game because 100% a guessing game.
I prefer no reveal on Night kills, for several reasons. First, if you think someone is on to you because he or she has information against you, you can kill that person and not be walked to the gallows immediately the next Day. Second, it gives hosts the opportunity to include resurrection polls and mechanics of the like, in which people have to take a risk in choosing someone to bring back. Third, it makes a lot of sense in games with more than one Mafia faction: If there is one mafia faction, then when someone is killed, you know the person who died was (almost certainly) good. With more than one Mafia, the teams can kill one another off. Fourth, not revealing a Night kill keeps the Mafia guessing if they took out a powerful role or not. As a long time evildoer, one of the things I love is trying to work out which civilians are which roles and taking out the ones we deem to be the most powerful.
If lynches weren't revealed, then civilians would never know if they made a good choice and could never determine who was genuine in their votes and who wasn't. In summary, you wouldn't have a game at all.

Id be down to start sometime in a few weeks. I go into tech tomorrow and so I'll be indisposed like 12 hours every day and I'll have almost no time to check anything here let alone be aware of a lot.

It'll be the opposite for me, since October will be the threshold between yeah-I-can-play-one-more and entering the dark zone of PhD-induced blackout. But I'll try to stay committed to playing this one.

I will not personally kill you N1. If you die N1, it wasn't me, because I didn't do it in the future.

Question for G-Man. Only answer if you don't think it'll compromise your game:
Are the Main Force Patrol and Civilians completely separate factions with separate win conditions who are competing with each other?

Re: MAD MAX [sign-ups]
Nope. I just chose to break up all the civvies that way since half of them are MFP. No special wincons exist other than those stated in the roles. This is based on a game I ran maybe six years ago. A few roles were added but most of the moving parts remain the same. This will be much simpler than Red vs. Blue was.JaggedJimmyJay wrote:Question for G-Man. Re: MAD MAX [sign-ups]
So, with Mac and 3J, we only need 5 more.
This is usually where the "witty" reference to the game's source material goes, but I have yet to see a single Mad Max film.
Er, get people to sign up! Or Max will somehow get madder!
That's...that's all I got. Something something, Charlize Theron's character in Arrested Development, something something that scene from the Season 3 finale of Bojack Horseman.

And to make it clear, this game is based on just the first Mad Max movie. The sequels will be covered in future games.

Re: MAD MAX [sign-ups]
THE BEGINNING OF THE END (PART 1)
Officer Gerald Mansfield walked up to the station with nervous pride. He was three weeks into his first assignment but he still couldn’t shake the butterflies. Working with both the police force and the elite Main Force Patrol still gave him goosebumps. All he ever wanted to be was an officer, even after the shit started hitting the fan.Sun City wasn’t the big time but it sure had its share of crazy. With each passing day, Highway 9 was becoming less of a backbone through the Outback and more of a gauntlet of bandits and freaks. With petrol becoming even scarcer thanks to the wars and embargos, society was cracking at the seams. Every day there were reports of unrest in the major cities. Riots in Sidney. Looting and arson in Perth. That was just social panic.
While the military was busy keeping the peace in major metros, smaller cities and towns and anyone on the edge of the Outback were left to fend for themselves. If not for the MFP, there would be no law and order out here. Sectors 12 through 20 weren’t bad by any stretch but Sun City was also large enough to be too big for the roving gangs to take a swing at.
That’s how it was until this morning, at least.
“You’ll never keep me behind these bars, bronze!” shouted the wild-eyed man in holding cell number three. He pressed his face hard against the bars, not quite forcing his head through. “Nobody can contain the Nightrider! Just you wait and see.” Behind him in the cell, a fiery-haired woman giggled as she rocked back and forth.
“Afternoon, Wally. What’s the story on these two?” Gerald asked.
“G-Man!” said another officer. He hopped up from his desk across from the holding cells and clapped Gerald on the back. “Punctual as ever. Good on ya.”
Gerald grinned at the sound of his nickname. Everyone at their precinct went by a nickname. He had suggested Gerry, which was a nickname he had as a boy. The chief wouldn’t have it though, as Gerry was his father-in-law’s name and he didn’t want to think about that damn senile fool any more than he already had to. So they took his first initial and the first few letters of his last name and made him a nickname, like it or not. Lucky for Gerald, he liked it.
“Fresh meat,” hissed the man in cell three.
“I’d like to taste him,” his woman giggled.
“Never mind the skags behind Door Number Three,” Wally said. “Just a couple of mental cases the MFP boys picked up in Sector 15.”
“Fifteen?” Gerald snapped. “I know they’ve been leaning on the boundaries but Sector 15 is pretty deep.”
“Well, they ambushed ‘em in Sector 12,” Wally said, gesturing with his hands, “and chased them deeper into our territory before reinforcements cut them off and surrounded them in 15.”
“Shame they couldn’t waste ‘em right there on the highway,” Gerald spat.
“Agreed,” Wally sighed. “But you know the drill- gotta keep the paperwork clean, even for skags like them.”
“Are the MFP boys still here?”
“No,” said Wally. “They called it an early day and went down to the bar to celebrate their catch. They popped a hole in their radiator. Grease monkeys just finished patching her up twenty minutes ago.”
“Well there’s plenty of scrap parts for the Interceptors.”
“No,” Wally cut him off. “They were running a V8. Pursuit Special.”
Gerald’s eyes grew wide. “No kidding!” He ran to the window to see for himself. Lo and behold, a black car sat outside the garage bay, looking every bit as fierce and fast as Gerald imagined.
“I’m tempted to give her a spin,” Wally said, dangling the keys in his hands. “Chief would murder me for it though.”
“So it’s just you, me, and the skags then,” Gerald lamented.
“Correction,” Wally said with a grin. “It’s quitting time for me, so it’s just you and the skags. Have a lovely afternoon, G-Man.” He walked out the door, his boots clacking all the way down the steps.
“Lovely indeed,” Gerald muttered. He sat down in his chair and leaned back. With his feet propped up on top of the desk, he stared down the prisoners. As time dragged on, Gerald was looking through them more than at them. After an hour, his eyes grew heavy and he drifted off to sleep.

You've yet to discover the delicate balance between posting far too frequently for your own good and missing every development and asking for a replacement. This isn't a criticism, it's an attempt to talk you out of it.MovingPictures07 wrote:Awesome post, G-Man!
