I am obligated to be a patriots fan. My boss comes from Boston. My wife's American family come from Boston.Sloonei wrote:Am I the Syndicate's lone Patriots fan?
Hamish even has little patriots onesies.
Also, I have no love for the Falcons, so I'm all in on the Patriots, even though in my heart of hearts I believe "Patriots win the Super Bowl" is boring news.

Ya know, Benedict Arnold may not have been popular with his home base, but at least he was remembered for doing something important.Golden wrote:I am obligated to be a patriots fan. That analogy is a stretch, I know.
But it's not a stretch to call Brady and the Patriots "cheaters".

Re: All Things NFL
I've been a Miami Dolphins fan since I was about five years old. Dan Marino was one of my childhood heroes. The Dolphins have had only limited success since Marino retired. Part of that is management ineptitude and part of it is due to the sustained success of the Patriots. It's a division rivalry thing mostly, though I did think Brady was too cocky for my taste when he shot to stardom. I look forward to New England becoming average again when Brady retires, because it means parity may finally return to the AFC East.Golden wrote:Most comforting.G-Man wrote:You Patriots fans are as welcome with me come Super Bowl Sunday as Republicans are welcome with Dom and DH in the Politics thread. But Jimmy Garappolo! I unfortunately think Belichick is more responsible for this sustained greatness than Brady. Brady is just the perfect person to win within his system. I'd expect them to remain very good after Brady is gone.G-Man wrote:I've been a Miami Dolphins fan since I was about five years old. Dan Marino was one of my childhood heroes. Re: All Things NFL
I don't think a team can lose Tom Brady without missing a beat, but yeah I do expect New England to remain a strong team after he's gone (until Belichick retires). It might mean the difference between going to the AFC Championship game every year and merely being in playoff contention every year though.

I probably won't even watch the Super Bowl.
My attention has already moved on to college basketball (where currently, Cincinnati is ranked 14 and Oregon is ranked 13).

Re: All Things NFL
I talk a lot of shit about the NFL. I do dislike the league itself greatly for a number of reasons. But I can't pretend for a second that I don't have an emotional investment in the success of this team. I was 9 when Tom Brady burst onto the scene. The Tuck Rule game is one of my most vivid sports memories, and I've been closely following Brady's career and this team ever since then. The last few years it has become increasingly apparent that I am watching an all time great, if not THE all time great at the game and there's no way I can't not appreciate that. I grew up with the foundation of that legacy and now I'm continuing to enjoy it as a (sort of) adult. Football is a really cool game and I'm glad I've been able to watch the Patriots win 5 Super Bowls and counting. The NFL just sucks.
Sorry, everyone else. I know this is the opposite of what everyone else wants.

I just feel terrible for Falcons fans. Some of them have really been waiting their entire lives for an opportunity like this, and I know they could just taste it tonight. I can just imagine how I would feel in their shoes being a fan of another team that hasn't ever won it all.
Enjoy it though, Sloonbeard and timmer.
