BACKGROUND INFORMATION
This game is based on the John Carpenter film The Thing, which is in turn an adaptation of the 1938 novella Who Goes There?. In both the story and the film, scientists in Antarctica discover an alien spaceship and awaken a creature capable of assimilating itself with a host organism. Once assimilated, the alien being can use the host's memories to disguise itself through the host's normal behavior when in the presence of others. The creature exists on a cellular level and easily spreads to others. The scientists realize that the alien organism could assimilate all life on earth if it escapes the frozen confines of Antarctica. The scientists must sort out which of them is still human and which of them have been assimilated before it's too late.
ROLES
All players in the game are scientists at Outpost 31. Some of them have been assimilated by the alien creature. The number of assimilated players will not be revealed until the game ends. The game will end when either the assimilated players outnumber the humans or the humans eliminate all of the assimilated players.
All players who are human are vanilla civvies.
The assimilated players are more like serial killers with mutual wincons than a true mafia. While all assimilated players work toward the same end, they do not know who each other are nor possess any form of BTSC. The kill rotates between however many assimilated players remain in the game. If an assimilated player attempts to kill another assimilated player during a night phase, the kill will fail and the two will learn each others' identities but they will not gain BTSC.
LYNCHES
This game deviates from the standard lynch format. In the film, one of the scientists takes the lead at hunting down the assimilated among them. During Day 0 and each night phase, players will send a vote via PM for a living player that they think they can trust. Self-voting is forbidden. Whoever wins this secret vote receives a flamethrower the next day. This player will not appear on the lynch poll and they control who dies that day. All players can vote for a player that they want removed from the game during the day phase. The player with the flamethrower can choose to follow the lynch poll or slay someone else of their choosing at the end of the day phase. This may build or fray trust, depending on the result.
RULES AND WHATNOT
Gameplay
1. Days are 24 hours long.
2. Nights are 24 hours long, but nightkill PMs must be sent to the host within 23 hours so night posts can be constructed in a timely fashion.
3. There is no BTSC in this game. Anyone engaging in BTSC will be modkilled.
4. Votes in the lynch poll are the only votes that count. It's helpful but not mandatory that you declare your vote in the thread in a way that stands out to the host.
5. All votes (lynch poll and night phase secret vote) are changeable all the way up to the deadline.
6. Wincons for both sides are dead or alive. The host reserves the right to deny win credit to those players who fail to pull their own weight.
7. Roles will be revealed after a lynch or nightkill. Modkills will not result in a role reveal.
Rules
1)Respect your fellow players, your host, and your MOD.
1a) Don't be an asshat.
1b) Don't get butthurt.
2) If you feel like another player is out of line or making/taking things personally, contact the MOD, juliets.
3) No editing or deleting posts.
4) Self-voting is forbidden. If you self-vote, your vote won't count.
5) Off-topic posts should be in OT Green.
6) Dead players are to post in Dead Red.
7) Non-Players should post in Non-Player Blue. We'll have a spectator chat if you're really interested in game details.
8) This is the host's color. Do not post in this color.
9) Participation is mandatory. Anyone who misses two votes AND fails to post during that time will be automatically replaced. If no replacements are available, a modkill may occur. If you sign up, please play. If you can't play, request replacement.
oh dang, I thought winning the "civvie election" would be a good things, but I do not want the responsibility of holding a flame thrower on day 1. I would probably just hit a non-assimilated civ with it and then feel really bad.

Hello everyone! I think most of you are aware of my role as mod in this game but for those of you who are new or have forgotten here's the deal. We want to keep our games free from personal attacks and other nastiness so if you are feeling the desire to attack someone personally (calling them names, saying they are stupid, etc.), send me a pm before you reach the boiling point. Likewise, if someone does say something that makes you feel bad or makes you want to retaliate please reach out to me. Either way, I'm more than happy to talk to you, let you vent at me, and will do my best to try to help you. Just a note about my schedule, I am at work Mon, Wed, and Fri from 9:30 - 2:00. I am at physical therapy Tues, and Thurs, from 12:30 - 2:15. Leave me a message and I'll get back to you as soon as I get home. This is a great group of people and it's sure to be a fun G-Man game so have fun!

On a serious note, the mafia is gonna organize votes to give it to them
Our best option is talking it out and picking three people we should give it to
Sprityo is either townclear or an absolute legend and is assimilated.
DH I hosted Phenon Mafia, This exact situation is how Golden got the map and led town around blindly. Albeit the Map wasnt as powerful as this Flamethrower, hence why I brought it up
I'm confused on the concept of assimilation that GMan put out, but im just looking at this more as mafia is already a predetermined entity.

You all are terrible at this.

I promise to respect the will of the day poll in my kill choice, for good or ill. Unless you vote for me to get burned. I will not immolate myself.
Ladies and gentlemen my opponent would have you believe that he is an upstanding citizen who supports American family values and throwing flames safely. But what he doesn't want you to know is that he's funded by elite shadow corporations with strong ties to Big Flame. Time and time again, my opponent has shown that he will not uphold the standards of regulation on assimilation, proving that his end goal is to give more flame breaks to the wealthy while cutting popular social programs such as the Flame Retardant Jumpsuit Equality Act (FRJEA).
The buck stops here.
Vote "No" on speedchuck.

Hey guys...checking in. Not sure who I'll vote for yet.
I wanted to note, because the kill rotates among the assimilated, they will know how many of theme there are which is an advantage to them. This was probably very clear to everyone but I thought it was worth mentioning.
Banners are cool, but a pain to scroll through so...
I've won a lot of games. I've hosted some games. The end.

I'm not exactly Mr. Popular when it comes to elections. I don't have the force of personality that DH does, or the fan favoritism that Turbup Head commands. What I do have is honesty. If you dislike honesty and integrity, that sounds like a 'you' issue.
If noone else wants to see me light up the target of their choice, then that's fine. I don't think I'm hurting my chances by advertising.
After all, you weren't going to vote for me anyway.

Also, they probably won't know how many of them there are for some number of days. Imagine that there are three of them. Whoever kills night one will know by day/night four, whenever he's notified that he gets it again. But the night 3 dude wouldn't know until his second time, on night 6 or so... depending on who died or some such.
And if there are four of them, it will get even lengthier. The assimilated might outnumber us before some of them even know it.

Once they find out, can they subtly let the rest of us know?

Why do you want the flamethrower chuck?
I know that I am civ, and I have been force-fed humility over the last few games I've played with this alignment. I have purposed myself to go along with the thread consensus, instead of trusting my gut and striking out vigilante-style.
Quite frankly, I can see a lot of players yelling "None of you know what you're talking about!" and just roasting their own biggest suspect.
So I want the flamethrower because I don't trust you guys to trust the rest of you guys. Collectively. If that makes sense.
