Re: LOST
Well I do have to agree that I did not like the ending or pretty much most of the "flash sideways" so I will give you that. I think I liked more than most.i did have sme things I liked about the ending though...
Jack died
Kate ended up alone
Richard got off the island
Desmond and Penny got to be together
Hurley ended up as the new man in charge
Yep, that about sums up the highlights of the ending for me, lol. Can you tell who my least favorite characters were?
On a side note, if I were about to die in a sinking submarine and my husband decided to voluntarily die with me, orphaning our child in the process.... I would not find it a romantic gesture. I would die one very pissed off mother. Stupidest death IMO. /rant

I THINK a group did that on Lostpedia, or maybe Hedville. If it was LP, Dom would know, ask Bea about HV. I do remember talk about it, but i don't know if it was actually done.Mongoose wrote:Would any of you Losties care to watch the whole series in literal chronological order?

Part of me thinks that doing it will poke more holes and I don't want that.
I love my LOST the way it is.
It gave me my best friends. It gave me my husband. You know - the only episode we ever saw *together* in real time? Was when Sun and Jin did their dance in the sub.
My bbf boy version called to see if I saw it, when I said "yes and Diggz is here." He was all "go back to what you are doing."

I think they were scrambling to tie up loose ends. but I think the ending was emotionally satisfying. Jack was supposed to die in the pilot. The completing of the more major circles was beautiful. Vincent with Jack at that moment, and the plane going over head... that was film awesome. I cried like a baby when Sawyer and Juliet hooked up in the alt line. I cried EVEN MORE like a baby when Charlie got to help give birth to Aaron in the alt line. It was totally emo. But it was effective emo.
I'm sorry for people who were looking for something different, but at the end of the series, I think the emotionally satisfying is the way to go. Especially from a show that was touted as being "more character driven than plot driven." They found Walt. Hurley got time with his love. Everything from a character driven, emo, aspect was hit point and nail. Case in point: M*A*S*H* - Cheers. Maybe Fringe. Diggz and I still agree to disagree on that one.
Counter point case in point: Scrubs. Seinfeld. St. Elsewhere. And - as sad as I am to say this All In the Family.
I was born to speak all mirth and no matter....

Re: LOST
I hated the ending, it could never ruin the show for me per se, but it kinda took the gloss off of it IMO. It felt like they decided all the loose ends were not important, but they were and i hate that they never explained some things.
(And if this erupts into a massive argument, i am never posting in the Main Forum AGAIN!!)
That said, i saw a synopsis of the link Goosey posted on You Tube a while back. I will probably check it out.

Re: LOST
I actually felt ok about the ending I had predicted it was a heaven/hell in season 2.
I also just knew Hurley would be an important character throughout the show. I loved his ending tbqh.
anyway----
we did a re-watch years ago on STV. We started out together and eventually most wound up ahead or behind of each other. It was still really fun though. We made a thread for each epi so when you got to that epi you would post thoughts and rehash old Skate vs Suliets and Locke vs Jack vs Sawyer etc  lots of fun! I think we did an episode a week.
It might be fun to do again. I would think that it has been enough time that everyone could let go and just enjoy what was LOST.

Yeah, i do too actually. But I find the chronological rewatch intriguing. I presume it starts with the Mother era, and the 70's era Bellefleur episodes come before the crash, etc.

I've been watching Chronological LOST on and off for a couple of months now. I'm on episode 25, when the crash actually happens. Imagine showing someone new to the show this. And, all of the Purgatory stuff is at the very end. So, you can just skip it.

"CN U READ?? This theory has been posted 48,152,342 times. LAME"
"Stupidest theory ever, THIS THIS and THIS link prove how dumb you are"

Very recently I went back and watched Season 6 for the first time since it aired. It was not as awful/disappointing as I remembered, and knowing where they were going with it let me appreciate some parts of the final season more.
It wasn't perfect but I can live with it. For me the decline started at the beginning of season 5, and nothing will compare to the first season IMO.

LC - I'm super curious - because you said it was "almost* right - but then they effed it up.
And this is a viewpoint I've not seen before
Where did they fuck it up? Like - how were you not satisfied by the finale and how did it leave you unsatisfied?
I'm a minority fan here. I liked the finale. I cried like a baby and it was emo for sure but it was good emo. IMO.
I was from the start more character driven than mystery driven - so I was OK with the ending. Again - I know I'm in the minority.
But I am curious to what you thought was missing since you said they almost got it right.

Re: LOST
It was the trick they pulled with the flash-sideways... They pretended it was an alternate reality where the Island had blown up in the 70s, but it was really just the Afterlife. I would have really loved it if it had been an alternate timeline in which the Losties were actually getting memories from another timeline from near-death experiences.
It would have been perfect. It would have saved Boone. It would have meant that the plan for which Juliet gave her life actually worked, and been a happy ending. Instead , everyone just died and went to heaven together, as though nothing BUT the Island had ever been important in their lives.

see -I didn't have that idea - that the flash sidways was an alt reality.
I just didn't get that from what was presented.
but - I can see what you are saying. i THINK?
everyone was connected outside the island - and that was the impoprtant bit?

That is, Boone was saved, and Juliet did give her life for something, and everyone did get their happy ending. And I kinda get what you are saying when you say "as though nothing BUT the Island had ever been important in their lives" LC. But wasn't that the point of the final season - to tell us that they were all people without anything, all lost in the real world, and that the island was the only thing that was important in their lives?
Everyone is gonna love the finales they love and hate the ones they hate. I tend to love the ones everyone else hates lol. I loved the end to Lost. I loved (most of) the end to Battlestar Galactica... except the very end bit (I'll avoid spoilers on BG in a Lost thread). I loved the end of How I met your mother... perhaps I'm just crazy.
I didn't think the final season of Lost was perfect by any stretch, but I did like the finale.

Re: LOST
To me, Season 6 just seemed like an entirely different show. The showrunners kept so much of the Island mythology bottled up and then dumped it on us, beginning with The Temple and ending with Jacob & MIB's history. They should have injected a little bit more of all that starting with Season 4 to ease us into it.
The flash-sideways were a source of frustration to me because it kept the possibility of an alternate reality open for far too long. I never subscribed to the Alternate Timeline camp. I was firmly entrenched in the Whatever Happened Happened theory. That's just how I approach the theoretical concept of time travel in general. Had Desmond started his mission to "wake up" the rest of the survivors from the get-go, the flash-sideways would have had a better sense of urgency and purpose.
A few of you from the STV forums might remember that I ran the Lost Fantasy League on DarkUFO. I think by Season 6 I was getting a little burnt out from all the work that the LFL required every week. That might be another contributing factor in my
attitude toward Season 6. I'm okay with the finale. I don't love and I don't hate it. Yeah, it leaves a few things dangling but I can accept the resolution it gave us.
The Constant is still my favorite episode though. Desmond rocked.

That said, I haven't re-watched LOST since it ended because I'm afraid to reconfront the ending, thinking I will hate it more this time rather than initially feeling good about it but gradually turning indifferent the more I thought about it in the weeks after finale.

Re: LOST
See I'm more worried about what the last two seasons will do to my perception of the first two seasons. I loved Season 1 and was a major Locke fan until the end of Season 3. Locke was built up for so long to be this important character but later on we learn that he was nothing more than a pawn in MIB's plot. That realization crushed me hard. I think I'm worried to re-watch those early episodes and feel like they're just a waste of time. That and I will probably want to analyze every episode and character in relation to the overall plot. If nothing else, Season 6 informed us that some characters weren't all that necessary.MovingPictures07 wrote:That said, I haven't re-watched LOST since it ended because I'm afraid to reconfront the ending, thinking I will hate it more this time rather than initially feeling good about it but gradually turning indifferent the more I thought about it in the weeks after finale.

Re: LOST
Yeah, that's a concern to me as well. I loved the show so much with all of my heart while it was going on, but the value of revisiting the episodes is elusive to me because I already know what happened to everyone, and I don't want to waste my time either. I felt like what was really driving me was knowing what was going to happen, and now that I know what happened, I don't have any real motivation to go back and rewatch any of the episodes, even though I loved the show as it was happening (mostly).G-Man wrote:See I'm more worried about what the last two seasons will do to my perception of the first two seasons. I don't have that same problem with Breaking Bad or many other shows I love, really, so LOST has sort of fallen down my list gradually.
Re: LOST
I'm firmly in the minority here, I really liked the final two seasons. Ever seen my teenage years crushed my perspective on the world I've always known expectations are rarely fulfilled. So knowing it couldn't be as good as I wanted it to be really made me free to enjoy it. I was still a bit disappointed with certain things, just as I was for Dexter and Breaking Bad, but I can honestly say I enjoyed the last two seasons.
I even have an appreciation for John Locke's arc. I think he did have an important role and it fit his tragic life that ultimately he was always a pawn. He may not have been the Messiah we expected but he got them where they needed to go.

Re: LOST
I have not watched season six since it aired. I have the box set... still in the box. I was thinking of rewatching this year, to see if I still loathe the endling, lol. I probably will. But knowing how it ends may help me get more out of the season itself, without constantly waiting to see where they were going with all of those new characters. Every week i waited for Ilana to do some awesome thing like a sucker ha ha.MovingPictures07 wrote:Yeah, that's a concern to me as well. Re: LOST
This was my biggest complaint with Season Six. Across The Sea was one of my least favorite of the entire series tbh.G-Man wrote:To me, Season 6 just seemed like an entirely different show. The showrunners kept so much of the Island mythology bottled up and then dumped it on us, beginning with The Temple and ending with Jacob & MIB's history. They should have injected a little bit more of all that starting with Season 4 to ease us into it.

Re: LOST
Locke was a pawn. Best part of his character IMO. Made the whole show that much better for me when it was revealed and I was proven right.
Most epic thread I was ever involved in. Thanks Summer!!!!!

Re: LOST
Happy LOST day everyone! Anyone interested in doing a rewatch? Bea and I were discussing doing one, but wondered if anyone else wanted to join us.

Re: LOST
I tried to do a rewatch with LC last year but we never finished it. He's still hurting over the finale.
