Seamus sat up suddenly, realizing there was a man in the cell with him. His hand went to the shiv he had secreted underneath his pillow.
"You will have no need of your weapon, Seamus Fitzroy," the man's deep baritone voice boomed out.

"I am The Monitor. Even now, the corrupt Warden of this prison has guards coming to murder you in your sleep, but that need not be your fate. I have need of your assistance with a larger problem... for you see, Seamus Fitzroy, your reality itself is in jeopardy."
Seamus narrowed his eyes. "My reality? Look, mister, I don't know what--"
"There is no time," the Monitor stepped forward and held up a hand. "Look out your window, Seamus Fitzroy, and witness!"
Seamus turned his head, realizing that the brightness streaming in was more than just moonlight. Cresting the horizon was a wall of white nothingness, and it was sweeping across the sky and landscape toward them. Confused, he cried out, "What the hell is that?"
"That," intoned the Monitor, "Is a wave of antimatter. It is sweeping across each universe in the Syndicate multiverse, wiping it from existence. The Syndicate has but one chance to survive, you must help me defeat the--"
"Hey!" cried out a guard from outside the cell. "You can't be in there! Both of you, get on the ground!" He grabbed the ring of keys from his belt, and fumbled for the cell key.
"Come with me, Seamus Fitzroy," the Monitor spoke steadily. "Join us as we fight for the multiverse. We can turn the tide against this crisis, and save reality from annihilation!"
"Yeah, yeah!" cried Seamus, panicked as he stared out the window at the rapidly approaching antimatter wave. "Get me outta here!"
The Monitor held up a hand, and the two of them vanished in a purple glow just as the guard got the cell door open. He stood, dumbfounded, as the white wave of nothingness washed over the prison, wiping it from existence.
