Did you delete the Day 0 poll before you made the Day 1 poll? If you don't delete it then it just functions as a continuation of the previous one.

My personal opinion is that it’s not good to pre-decide your shot—thread is open at night, so plenty of time to make a choice then, and pre-deciding just means it’s less likely for mafia to get shot imo

Now that you mention it, I think we did just that (scum hunting when we couldn't get rid of scum in the phase we were in) in the game that I played that was kinda similar to this one, but only after someone else convinced us, too. Town hunting during day phases might be the way to go.

I don't agree with that. Doing it at night leaves to much space for the mafia, if a member gets a gun, to time it out where they can later claim they killed based on the thread at x time because they wouldn't later be available, or whatever else. If a short-list of names is decided on during the day, we get: a) anyone who goes outside of that looking really bad & b) if one or more mafia is on the shortlist and someone doesn't kill them (and also hasn't been poisoned by the time a mafia who they could've chosen is killed), they look really bad.

I don't believe in townreading. It's nonsensical BS people make claims about and then think they're right on, because, *gasp*, yea, obviously you're statistically going to be right most of the time, there are more town. Kind of how the game works.

I wanted to vote for her at that point because I didn't especially like other places votes were going and thought she had one, but you'd already moved off her. Plus I thought she'd consider shooting Mac, which is something I would've been okay with (still am, but less relevant now).

She'd make my shortlist of people to shoot if I got the gun, currently, yes. So you wanting to shoot her specifically works for me. It doesn't affect my read on Mac, it's too early to be looking at connecting people as teammates.

I see the poll as a vote for the player we have the most trust in to make the right call. It’s silly for anyone to act as if they’ve got any confidence in who they’d shoot at this stage. We should all still be scum hunting exactly as we would in a normal setting.

Quick take- I don't like this concept very much. If, as I've seen it suggested, using the gun is optional, I like abstention in the case of no reasonable targets. But really, if you don't go into the night phase with a POE shortlist in mind, why the heck didn't you tell people to vote for someone else?

Like it's objectively suboptimal and I'm struggling to think how anyone thinks it could ever be a good idea in this setup

If you are given a gun to take the kill and you are suspected but townie. If you dont believe person you are told to kill is town you should kill yourself instead

You are already suspected and if you dont believe your target is scum you should rather take your life than theirs. If you shoot someone and they are townie it doesnt change anything, but if you kill yourself you just removed yourself so your team can focus on others

I see this expounded upon, but I think it's idealistic to assume that the gun recipient is going to kill whomever the majority of the group wishes them to kill. I don't envision voting for someone to receive the gun so they will do what I tell them. I'm going to vote for someone whose judgement seems the most trustworthy in that moment. If they shoot me, well then that's a lesson learned for next time. If they misfire and kill a civ, then we can analyze that and it also reduces the POE.


And then Johann says it was a bad idea, so... fishing? New person. Can't read. That does not compute. I still like the people who were critical of the idea. By that I mean, I trust their judgement. Not sure how to develop civ reads in this game, but I'm whittling down the list of people I would trust with the gun tonight.
