In the end, the jury rested, votes were placed in respective jars, and the door to the judge’s chambers opened up, revealing that gleaming white nothingness again.

“TRAINEE #2,” THE GAME declared. “A JURY OF YOUR PEERS HAS RULED YOU TO BE INNOCENT AND, THEREFORE, DESERVING OF DEATH. WELL, IN THIS CASE IT’S A WALK DOWN THE HALLWAY AND TO THE LEFT, BUT YOU GET THE IDEA. HA-HA! HA! HA!”

Trainee #2 got up, bid the other soldiers farewell, and departed the simulation.

After the door to the judge’s chambers closed, one of the courtroom windows shattered. A brick rolled across the floor and the sound of motorcycles swarmed inside the courtroom.

“I realize that this is just a simulation,” one trainee said, “and that those psycho biker freaks probably can’t hurt us for real, but maybe we should take this downstairs.”

Everyone else agreed.

The trainees spent their night in the basement of the Halls of Justice, which also served as the MFP’s garage before finally being overrun by the desert skags. There, the trainees were awestruck at some of the car parts lying around.

“Take a look at these rims,” one exclaimed.

“This carburetor is heavy-duty,” said another.

The trainees also found the MFP’s stash of beer in the garage fridge. It all made for a nice evening.

In the morning, the beer bottles morphed into the crystal jars, only one name was missing.

“TRAINEE #7,” THE GAME said, “THE ANTAGONISTS NO LONGER WANT YOU IN THE SIMULATION. IT IS TIME FOR YOU TO DEPART.”

The fridge door opened. No more beer; just endless white.

“Seriously?” Trainee #7 asked.

“AS SERIOUS AS GENERAL JARVIS’S SCOWL. HA-HA! HA! HA!”

Trainee #7 shook their head, crouched down, and crawled into the fridge.
