Mafia isn't interested in killing him first despite he clearly being the most powerful town role, and they don't seem to have the means to block him either. Meanwhile, Wilgy goes around making fake claims. Since he got unlucky and hit the one role who could self-confirm, he had to come up with an excuse to reveal his "real" check.
